Col. Reynolds of SG-3 covers SG-1's six in Season Seven

Summary

SG-3 was one of the original nine units formed in the pilot episode, 1.02 "Children Of The Gods Part 2".

Season One

The unit was first organized as a Marine combat unit, going on missions deemed hazardous for SG-1 to go on alone.

In the Season One episode, 1.05 "The Broca Divide", there were four members of the team, two members known to us were:

When SG-1 and SG-3 went to P3X-797 (Land of Light), all of the members of the teams except for Daniel Jackson and Teal'c, were immediately the victims to the curse of the "Touched" virus. Lt. Johnson was the first to show signs of this virus when he attacked Teal'c during the mission debriefing. The other members of SG-3 eventually showed the debilitating effects of the virus soon afterward. Fortunately, Dr. Fraiser found a cure for the disease.

In the Season One episode, 1.18 "Solitudes", SG-3 was sent to look for Jack O'Neill and Sam Carter when they failed to return with Daniel Jackson and Teal'c from P4A-771. Major Castleman was on the team and possibly its leader during this search mission because General Hammond instructed Teal'c to coordinate his rescue efforts with him. After their first mission together, Major Castleman returned to the SGC injured after he fell several meters from a rock ledge in a cave.

Sometime during Season One, SG-3 had brought back a small amount of raw naquadah, but it was not revealed from which planet it was taken, who was on the team at the time, or how many members were on the team. This information was given to us by Captain Carter when SG-1 had travelled to P3R-636 and saw some raw naquadah being sent through the stargate by the people of the planet in the episode, 2.05 "Need".

Seasons Two and Three

Next we hear that Major Warren is the commanding officer of SG-3 in the episode, 2.03 "Prisoners". SG-3 was assigned to rescue SG-1 after they had not reported back from their mission. They went to the planet, but were only able to come back with SG-1's equipment and to report that SG-1 had been sent to the prison planet Hadante. Major Warren wanted to pursue the rescue, but General Hammond asked that they continue on their regular mission schedule which was to the planet P2A-509. It was fortunate that General Hammond had them continue on their regular schedule because SG-1 was able to escape from Hadante and had travelled to P2A-509 to meet up with SG-3 knowing that they were supposed to be there. SG-1 had to do this because they no longer had a GDO and Major Warren allowed them to use his to send a signal to the SGC so that they would be able to go home.

The SG units must go through some sort of personnel rotation, because the next mission we hear about involving SG-3 was led by Col. Robert Makepeace. General Hammond sent SG-3 to the Tok'ra secret base on the planet designated P34-353J to extract Captain Carter because her father, General Jacob Carter, was dying of cancer. The Tok'ra kept SG-3 as an exchange for allowing Captain Carter and Colonel O'Neill to return home. When the Tok'ra base was betrayed by a traitor in their midst, the remaining members of SG-1 and SG-3 were released because the Tok'ra had to abandon the base. SG-3 helped the Tok'ra with their evacuation (2.11-2.12 "The Tok'ra").

Col. Makepeace continued on as SG-3's commanding officer at the beginning of Season Three. On a mission they obtained information from several Tok'ra that SG-1 had been taken prisoner on P3X-254. Col. Makepeace reported this to Gen. Hammond and Hammond put him in charge of the rescue, leading SG-3, SG-5, SG-6, and SG-11. SG-3 stayed at the stargate on the planet, while Makepeace took the rest of the soldiers into Hathor's base. SG-3 was captured by Hathor's Jaffa and several men from the other units were killed. SG-1 was successfully extracted and the rest of the men were able to go home after a daring rescue by Teal'c and Gen. Hammond himself (3.01 "Into The Fire Part 2").

SG-3 went with SG-1 to rescue the Abydonians taken by Amaunet in her kidnapping of the Harsesis. She was able to send the boy away with one of her trusted aides, but Amaunet, and Sha're, were killed by Teal'c with his staff weapon when he found her killing Daniel with the ribbon device (3.10 "Forever In A Day).

SG-3 lost Col. Makepeace in the episode, 3.18 "Shades of Grey", when he was temporarily assigned as the new leader of SG-1 after Col. Jack O'Neill was forced into retirement because he stole a piece of Tollan technology. This was really a precurser to a sting operation of which Col. Makepeace was not aware and it was discovered by Jack that Makepeace was a NID mole. He was placed under arrest for treason.

Seasons Four Through Six

In the Season Four episode, 4.15 "Chain Reaction", Gen. Bauer replaced Gen. Hammond as the commander of the SGC. He made changes to many of the SG units, including SG-1 and SG-3. Bauer dismantled SG-1 and sent its members to other positions. The only member of the team still allowed to go on missions was Teal'c and he was assigned to SG-3. Gen. Bauer sent SG-3 to P3S-452, a planet known to be a Goa'uld stronghold, in order to obtain refined naquadah for a bomb he wished to test. The unit lost their leader, Major Waite, and another member, Lt. Morrison, sustained serious injuries while laying cover fire in their escape. They were successful in obtaining the naquadah, but it had been at a very high price.

When SG-1 returned from the planet P3A-194 (the Volian homeworld), they thought that they had found the advanced ally Earth needed in order to successfully defend itself against the Goa'uld threat. This ally was known as the Aschen, and it was up to the SGC to determine if they could locate the Aschen homeworld since it was known that the Aschen did not have a DHD to compensate for stellar drift so they were limited to 300 light years from the Volian homeworld. One of the four possible candidate planets was P4C-970, the planet locked out of the SGC dialing computer when General Hammond received a note from the future from Jack that said not to go there under any circumstances (4.16 "2010"). General Hammond decided to send out SG-3, SG-12, and SG-15 to the other three candidate planets, but the mission was scrubbed by the President because he didn't want to risk a potentially rewarding alliance. The members of SG-3 were not identified for this mission (5.10 "2001").

SG-3 was identified as being a Marine unit when Col. Jack O'Neill complained that they came back through the stargate at the SGC and interrupted a training exercise, in the episode, 5.13 "Proving Ground". SG-3's unexpected arrival was due to being under heavy fire from a Goa'uld, but details of the mission were not provided, neither was the composition of the unit.

After the SGC was able to reveal the participants in a rogue NID operation to steal alien technologies, mostly from the SGC's allies, there were many fences to mend. One of these involved the government of the planet called Latona, where the NID operatives had disabled a major defense weapon, called the Sentinel, during their visit there. SG-9 was sent to settle things diplomatically, but the tampering with the Sentinel opened the planet up for attack by a Goa'uld who sent footsoldiers to find the weapon. SG-3 was at the stargate on Latona when the Jaffa arrived, and they ended up going after the Jaffa on foot while SG-1 was escorting two of the operatives who had damaged the Sentinel and defending the Sentinel's location. SG-1 found the sole survivor of SG-9, Lt. Grogan, and O'Neill took Grogan to continue diplomatic talks with the planet's leader while Daniel, Carter, and Teal'c worked with the two operatives in getting the Sentinel functional once more. The two operatives were successful, but they both died in their attempts. SG-1, SG-3, and Lt. Grogan returned home. The leader of SG-3 was Major Lawrence (however, he was played by the same actor who played Major Warren, so it is possible that the name "Lawrence" was an accidental oversight in continuity) (5.20 "The Sentinel").

When Daniel Jackson was exposed to the lethal dose of naquadria radiation on the planet Kelowna in the episode, 5.21 "Meridian", Jack O'Neill discussed a few options that they had available to them in order to try to save Daniel from the horrific death he was certain to suffer. It was said that SG-3 had found a sarcophagus, but it was heavily guarded. General Hammond refused the mission to take the sarcophagus because it would have been too risky and Daniel did not desire that more people die on his behalf. It was not stated who were on the team at the time the sarcaphagus was discovered two months prior to Daniel's exposure, nor was the planet designation given.

SG-1 and SG-15 are in on the planet P4S-237, where the Goa'uld Mot and his Jaffa are terrorizing the people who have been mining naquadah which Mot was supposedly collecting as a tribute to Ba'al. The Tok'ra knew that Mot was actually hoarding the naquadah for himself, hoping to build up enough of it to support his attempt to overthrow Ba'al. SG-3 was prepared to go in and help SG-1 and SG-15 when contact was lost. The people of the planet were successful in staging an uprising and Mot was killed. The fighting at the stargate on the planet was intense, but SG-1 and SG-15 were able to come through with only a few wounded. SG-3 and SG-10 were sent to help SG-1 round up the remaining Jaffa (6.21 "Prophecy").

Seasons Seven and Eight

At the beginning of Season Seven, in the episode, 7.01 "Fallen Part 1", it appears that SG-3 is no longer solely a Marine unit because Col. Reynolds, formerly of SG-16, is in the Air Force and is the unit's new commander.

SG-3, with one female member, along with SG-1 and SG-5, went to the planet later referred to as Vis Uban where it was thought that the Lost City of the Ancients was located. While setting up their perimeter fifty meters around the stargate on the planet, Col. Reynolds and his unit encountered the newly-descended Daniel Jackson (known here as Arrom). Col. Reynolds recognized Daniel immediately and his unit escorted him to the village where SG-1 was and presented their lost teammate back to them.

SG-3 presents Daniel to SG-1

Col. Reynolds' unit was part of the operations set up on the planet to trap Anubis in his search for the weapons which were thought to be stored in the Lost City. He was part of the ambush to disable two Jaffa sentries Anubis sent to guard the ring transportation site. Daniel Jackson and Jonas Quinn were then able to take the Jaffa's ring control arm band and transport up to Anubis' ship in order to hack into his computer system. The mission had many twists and turns, but eventually all was successful and Anubis' superweapon he created at Abydos in Season Six was destroyed and ultimately his entire mothership (7.02 "Homecoming Part 2").

Daniel Jackson's memories had been erased once he retook human form, but he gradually got most of his memories back from before he died of the radiation poisoning. He was starting to remember some of his time as an Ascended Being and what he was remembering was the taking of Bra'tac and Rya'c by Ba'al's Jaffa on the planet called Erebus. Bra'tac and Rya'c were held in a prison camp on that planet to labor in a naquadah refining operation to build a new ship for Ba'al. SG-2 and SG-3 went with SG-1 to rescue the two Jaffa from the camp. SG-3 was assigned to secure the fallen Jaffa who were guarding the stargate on the planet and then establish a perimeter. The mission was successful in not only extracting Bra'tac and Rya'c, but in destroying the ship being built as well as gaining possession of the camp, many of whose former inmates decided to join the Rebel Jaffa in their fight for freedom from the Goa'uld (7.04 "Orpheus").

The Goa'uld Anubis was creating an army of "supersoldiers" (Kull Warriors) which was genetically engineered to be loyal and relentless. He sent one of his warriors to intercept the minor Goa'uld System Lords Tilgath and Ramius and prevent them from making an alliance which they would have used to gather strength against him. The warrior was successful in killing Tilgath and the Jaffa on both sides, but Ramius escaped. Bra'tac coordinated with Rebel Jaffa working in Ramius' ranks to ambush the Kull Warrior Anubis sent to Ramius' home planet to complete the mission of destroying him. SG-1, SG-3, and SG-11 went to the planet in hopes of capturing the warrior alive and coordinated an ambush some distance from the stargate. SG-3 was commanded by Col. Reynolds, who placed C-4 at the ambush site, while other members of SG-3 secured the stargate. Members of SG-11 also participated in the ambush, along with Bra'tac and some Rebel Jaffa. In the fierce firing and blasting, Reynolds was shot in the left arm by the warrior's laser weapon. The group ended up having to surrender with hopes that the remaining Rebel Jaffa would free them. Eventually, they convinced their Jaffa guard to free them when he realized that his lord had fallen and he only remained. Eventually, they were successful in completing their mission by capturing the warrior as he was returning to the stargate. Reynolds survived the injury (7.11 "Evolution Part 1").

By some chance, Anubis learned the location of the new Alpha Site (they had just finished locating to a new Alpha Site after Anubis learned of the former one through the mind probe used against Jonas Quinn in the episode, 7.01 "Fallen") and he sent a few of his Kull Warriors to eliminate all who were living there, including Rebel Jaffa, Tok'ra, and SGC personnel. As many as could be were evacuated to the Beta Site, but Colonel Riley, the commander of the Alpha Site, stayed behind to destroy what remained to prevent it from falling into Anubis' hands. SG-1 and SG-3 were sent to the Alpha Site to find survivors because 90 people were unaccounted for. Colonel Reynolds was in command of SG-3 during this search and rescue mission (7.16 "Death Knell").

SG-3 was sent to back up SG-13 on the planet P3X-666 after SG-13 got permission to remain on the planet to explore Ancient ruins. SG-13 needed SG-3 to secure the stargate because they had encountered a Goa'uld probe there, but no other Goa'uld activity had been detected. The Ancient ruins were very important in the SGC's search for the Lost City of the Ancients, so they needed to gather as much information as possible on the planet. Unfortunately, the probe that they had encountered sent in a message before it was destroyed and soon there were Jaffa arriving in ships. An incredible number of SG units were involved in extracting wounded SG-13 member, Senior Airman Simon Wells, but only a single casualty was suffered by the SGC: Dr. Janet Fraiser was killed by a Jaffa who had broken through the SGC's line of defense to get to her location where she was stabilizing Wells' condition (7.17 "Heroes Part 1" and 7.18 "Heroes Part 2").
