TEASER

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate Young, extremely old and on the brink of death, is lying in a bed. Alternate Chloe, also elderly, is sitting beside him. Young's adult son, Steven, is also there.]

ALTERNATE CHLOE
Colonel?
ALTERNATE YOUNG
TJ?
ALTERNATE CHLOE
No. It's Chloe.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Where's…where's Steven?

[Steven walks to the bedside.]

STEVEN
I'm right here, Dad. Sara's on her way, she'll be here any minute.
ALTERNATE YOUNG

(whispering)

I'm sorry.

EXT—NOVUS CITY, DAY

[A statue of Young stands in a large park, which is surrounded by towering skyscrapers. There is a layer of white over everything, more drifting down from the sky. The shuttle flies in and lands in the park.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[The rear doors open to reveal Greer, Eli, Scott, Wray, Jason, Ellie and Yaozu. Greer holds out his hand and some of the stuff floating down from the sky lands in it. He rubs it between his fingers.]

ELI
Ash.

EXT—DESTINY IN ORBIT

[Destiny is in orbit above Novus.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is in the command chair; Rush, Brody, Volker, TJ and Chloe are also present.]

SCOTT

(over comms)

We just did a recon of the city center. The place is completely deserted. Hard to breathe, too, with all the ash falling.
VOLKER
So much for dropping them all off down there.
YOUNG

(into comms)

I don't want you hanging around if it's too dangerous.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Yes, Sir, but Yaozu took us to the entrance to an underground complex. It's sort of like a giant fall-out shelter. I mean, who knows? There could be people holed up in there.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

I think we should check it out.
YOUNG

(into comms)

Be careful. The planet's unstable.
SCOTT

(over comms)

Copy that.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Got a problem, though. The doors are sealed. Pretty thick, too. We tried to blast it open with C4, even used the shuttle's weapons but no luck.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

BRODY
We can use Destiny's main weapon, blow a hole in it.
VOLKER
Yeah, and destroy the entire complex in the process.
BRODY
We'll dial down the power.

INT—SHUTTLE

BRODY

(over comms)

Sixty percent.
ELI

(into comms)

The, the doors are pretty thick, and the actual bunker's way underground, hundreds of feet. I'd say it's worth a shot.

[Eli looks slightly embarrassed by his pun.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young looks to Rush for agreement.]

RUSH
Yep.
YOUNG

(into comms)

All right. Give us the coordinates.

[Brody goes to a console.]

EXT—DESTINY IN ORBIT

[The main weapon lowers from the underside of the ship.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Information flashes onto Brody's console screen.]

BRODY
I got a lock.
YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant, we are ready to fire. Are you clear of the area?
SCOTT

(over comms)

Yes, Sir. Fire away.

EXT—DESTINY IN ORBIT

[The main weapon fires a single shot towards the planet's surface.]

EXT—NOVUS CITY, DAY

[The blast from the weapon travels down into the city and there is a small explosion.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Everyone waits anxiously.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant.
SCOTT

(over comms)

Colonel, we're on site.

EXT—NOVUS CITY, UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, DAY

[Scott and the rest of the party from the shuttle are outside the complex. There is a large hole in the door.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Nice shooting. It worked.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX

[Scott and the others are making their way into the complex. The lights come on.]

ELI
There's still power. That's a good sign.
YAOZU
My father worked down here. He would sometimes bring me with him. I remember running through these halls as a child.

[They come to an elevator and Yaozu operates the controls. They enter the elevator, and Yaozu presses the button for level thirty. The doors close and, as the elevator makes its descent, muzak plays. The Earth people look around at each other, amused.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[The elevator arrives at level thirty and they step out, Scott and Greer with weapons drawn, into a room. There is a table and chairs and several computer stations on the walls. Looking up in the middle of the room, Greer sees the interior of rest of the complex towering overhead. There is a spiral staircase going up, with numerous landings branching off.]

SCOTT
Hello?
WRAY
What is this room?
YAOZU
The Teneran archive. The entire history of our people is stored here.
ELI
Let's hope it can tell us what happened to them.

END TEASER

OPENING CREDIT

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The kino footage shows the Destiny evacuees in a sandstorm. Everybody has to yell to be heard.]

ALTERNATE YOUNG
What the hell is this?
ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

I don't know.
ALTERNATE WRAY
This isn't Earth.
ALTERNATE ELI
Something obviously went wrong.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
All right. Greer, James, organize teams, we need to find shelter.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Where's Telford?
ALTERNATE SCOTT
He didn't make it.
ALTERNATE WRAY
Why? What happened to him?
ALTERNATE SCOTT
I don't know.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
What?
ALTERNATE YOUNG

(to Eli)

You brought a kino?
ALTERNATE ELI
I didn't—
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Find a planet.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Can you redial Destiny?
ALTERNATE ELI
It's gone.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
All right, everyone. Stay calm, stay close.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-NINE

[The kino footage is playing on a screen. Yaozu, Wray, Ellie and Jason are watching.]

ALTERNATE YOUNG

(on video)

Turn this off!

[The video stops.]

YAOZU
The first recording stored in the Teneran archive.
WRAY
Two thousand years ago. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that. Let's see what else they've got.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Eli is working at a computer station. Scott is standing beside him.]

ELI
Okay, communications are up. We should be able to talk to Destiny. Just hit that button.
SCOTT
This one?
ELI
Yeah.

[Scott presses a button on a neighboring computer station.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

Colonel, this is Scott. Do you read?

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Chloe looks up anxiously. Young activates the comms.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Yeah, we read you.
SCOTT

(over comms)

Yeah, we are in, ah, one of the…

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

SCOTT

(into comms)

…archive rooms. There's a bunch of them on several levels.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TJ

(into comms)

Still no people?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

SCOTT

(into comms)

Not a soul.
ELI
Well, we have power though. The grid draws from a combo of solar, wind…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

ELI

(over comms)

…and geothermal energy.
RUSH

(into comms)

Is there anything worth salvaging?
ELI

(over comms)

Tons. We found the testament people were talking about. The entire Teneran repository. Thousands of kino recordings…

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

ELI

(into comms)

…historical documents, a detailed account of when we first got here from Destiny.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comms)

None of which is any good to us right now. We've got a ship full of people; we need supplies for life support.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Eli shakes his head in frustration.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

There's also food storage. Canned goods, survival type rations.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)
Good. We'll use the shuttles to start ferrying supplies to Destiny.
(to Rush)

You should go down, check the place out.
RUSH
Okay.

[Rush leaves the bridge.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Keep me posted.
SCOTT

(over comms)

Yes, Sir.

INT—SANDSTORM PLANET, CAVE

[The kino footage shows the evacuees huddled in a cave. Alternate Eli is operating a kino remote.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Colonel, people are starting to pass out.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Atmosphere's way too thin.
ALTERNATE ELI
We've got four addresses.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Start dialing.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Whoa, wait! What if, what if they're worse than this place? We can't just walk through, blind.
ALTERNATE ELI
We'll just send a kino through first.
ALTERNATE WRAY
What? There's more than one?
ALTERNATE ELI
Six, actually. I wasn't the only one who decided to sneak one through.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Start dialing!

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[The elevator opens and Rush, Chloe, Park, Brody and Volker step out.]

ELI
Long way down, huh?
CHLOE
Ow, my ears popped on the way.
BRODY
Liked the muzak, though.
PARK
So, this is the archive room.
ELI
The main one. Five others above us. Above that, living quarters, tech and other supplies, food storage. Scott and Greer are already up there, scouting the place.

[Rush walks back to the elevator.]

VOLKER
Where are you going?
RUSH
To join them.
ELI
Oh, they don't need any help. Young's sending down—

[The elevator doors close as Eli speaks.]

ELI
Yep.

EXT—NOVUS, FOREST CLEARING, DAY

[The kino footage shows Alternate Scott looking around the area.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT

(into radio)

Colonel, this is Scott. Come in.
ALTERNATE YOUNG

(over radio)

Go ahead.
ALTERNATE SCOTT

(into radio)

Yeah, this planet looks good. You can start sending people through.

[Alternate Greer steps into the kino video frame.]

ALTERNATE YOUNG

(over radio)

Copy that.
ALTERNATE GREER
Well, this is it. Our new home. A planet known only to God.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[The screen of a computer station shows numerous icons for maps and archive files. Brody, Volker and Park are looking at the screens, scrolling across pages. Yaozu is standing behind, watching them. Eli is at a computer on the other side of the room.]

BRODY
Hell of a lot of data here.
PARK
Yeah, it looks like they documented everything.
YAOZU
It is easier to know where you are going, when you know where you have been…Eli Wallace.

[Everyone turns to look at Yaozu, then back to their work.]

VOLKER
You know, it's going to take years to get through all this.
BRODY
We'll bring it back to Destiny.
PARK
Yeah, these drives are built right into the structure, so I don't think we're going to be able to physically move them.
ELI
So, we configure an uplink. Stream the data.
BRODY
My thoughts exactly.

[As Brody works at the computer, Yaozu wordlessly comes and stands behind him.]

VOLKER
Brody.
BRODY

(distractedly)

Hmm.
VOLKER
Brody.
BRODY
Hmm?!

[Brody turns to Volker, who nods towards Yaozu.]

BRODY

(to Yaozu)

Sorry. Is it okay if I do this?
ELI
Ah, maybe I should do it.

[Eli comes over and takes Brody's place.]

ELI

(quietly to Brody as they pass)

You are the founding father of the enemy nation, after all.
BRODY
Hmm.
PARK

(smirking)

Futura.
VOLKER
It's a stupid—
BRODY
Enough with the name.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-NINE

[Wray is sitting at a computer station. She opens a video file that shows the evacuees standing around in the clearing. Alternate Scott, Alternate TJ, Alternate Brody, Alternate Eli and Alternate Wray are checking their supplies.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT
That's it.
ALTERNATE TJ
Some people brought through clothing items, hairpins, bandanas; we're going through it all.
ALTERNATE WRAY
Not much.

EXT—NOVUS, FOREST CLEARING, DAY

ALTERNATE BRODY
We'll just have to make do until Rush figures out where we are and brings Destiny back in range, so we can dial.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-NINE

[Wray is watching the footage.]

ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

Seriously?
ALTERNATE WRAY

(voice)

Adam, it… Destiny's gone. Destroyed.
ALTERNATE BRODY

(voice)

We don't know that for certain.
ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

No! We don't.

EXT—NOVUS, FOREST CLEARING, DAY

ALTERNATE ELI
But we also don't know if this is the present day, either.

[Alternate Young walks up.]

ALTERNATE ELI
We were dialing inside a star; it could have hit a solar flare. For, for all we know, we could have gone back in time, or-or forward. Days, months, years.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
The fact is, we're stuck here now, for God knows how long. So, we need to build shelter, we need to find food. Let's move.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STORAGE LEVEL

[Varro, Greer and other personnel are looking through storage crates, Rush enters.]

GREER
Rush! Come check this out! Two thousand years on the other side of the universe…

[Greer tosses Rush a vacuum-sealed plastic bag.]

GREER
… and beef jerky survives.

[Greer tears a bite off the piece in his hand and chews it.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Scott ascends the spiral stirs to the level, where Chloe is at a computer screen.]

SCOTT
Hey! There you are! Eli and others are working on a way to upload the archive back up to Destiny. We try to go through it all down here, we'd, ah, we'd never leave. What are you reading?
CHLOE
There are thousands of books in here. A bunch of school textbooks. Math, science, all written by Eli.
SCOTT
The college dropout.
CHLOE
Yeah.
SCOTT
You been sitting down here reading textbooks?
CHLOE

No, I found my diary. I know, weird. My first entry when we got to this planet.
(reading)

The air is good. Plenty of trees, fresh water. A lot like Earth.

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[People are building lean-tos and fires, gathering wood, shifting rocks.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Two weeks have gone by, and we now have a name for our home. Novus. It means "new". We're trying to settle in, get some decent shelters built. I'm still not sleeping well. Never thought I'd say this, but I miss Destiny.
ALTERNATE WRAY
…it would make so much sense to have—
ALTERNATE BRODY
Look, I already told you, we can't move there.
ALTERNATE ELI
Why not? It's not far, it's flat, wide open, plenty of room.
ALTERNATE BRODY

(irritated)

Because it's a flood plain. First rain, and we're washed out. We got good protection here, up slope, out of the wind, plenty of trees to build proper shelter, homes.
ALTERNATE WRAY
How? We have no tools.
ALTERNATE BRODY
One of the springs on the plain is seeping ferric hydroxide, bog iron deposits. It should get us jump-started on basic tool-making, then we can really speed things up.
ALTERNATE ELI
Yeah, I still think it's a good idea to look for a better location—
ALTERNATE BRODY

(angrily)

You know what? It was your good idea that got us stuck on this planet in the first place!
ALTERNATE ELI

(shocked)

What?! You agreed with it! You were one of the first ones—
ALTERNATE BRODY
We are here because of your calculations!
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Both of you, stop this right now. We're not doing this again, all right? The decision is made — we are staying here.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Sir, we're going to have to build a fence. There's wildlife on this planet. We just saw some nasty looking creatures on our scout.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Great!
ALTERNATE SCOTT
I've got people out on patrol, but we're going to run out of ammo real quick.
ALTERNATE WRAY
Yeah. Hence, the fence.
ALTERNATE YOUNG

(to Eli and Scott)

Right. Sounds good. How about we do it. Let's go.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

CHLOE
It's amazing. We came here with hardly anything, and two thousand years later…
SCOTT
Our kids done good.
CHLOE
I kind of want to read the rest of it. See who ended up with—

[Chloe is interrupted by a tremor, which shakes the complex violently.]

SCOTT
Under the table!

[They duck for cover under the table.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Volker, Eli, Park and Brody are taking cover until the shaking subsides. Brody comes out from under a table.]

BRODY
Ah, guys. You might want to get moving on that data transfer.

[He goes towards the concrete wall where he sees a large crack running from top to bottom.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STORAGE LEVEL

[There are several Destiny crew members there. Rush is opening boxes. Greer comes over to him.]

GREER
You okay?
RUSH
Yeah, I'm fine.
GREER
Oooh, I hate earthquakes.
RUSH
Yeah? It's my first, actually.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Scott and Chloe come out from their shelter.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Greer, this is Scott. You okay up there?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STORAGE LEVEL

GREER

(into radio)

Yeah, everybody's all good.
SCOTT

(over radio)

We're sending down additional teams…

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

SCOTT

(into radio)

…help with those supplies. We need to pick up the pace.
GREER

(over radio)

Copy that.

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[Alternate Wray is planting seeds in a small bed. Alternate TJ comes over carrying a roughly made basket.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Six weeks on the planet. We've been doing okay, for the most part. Until today.
ALTERNATE TJ
Garden?
ALTERNATE WRAY
Uh, the fruit that, ah, Scott and Greer found? Planting some seeds. See what happens.

[Alternate Park comes running from the tree line towards the camp.]

ALTERNATE PARK

(yelling)

TJ!

[Alternate TJ gets up and runs towards her, followed by Alternate Wray.]

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, NIGHT

[Alternate Volker is lying in a lean-to, being tended by Alternate Park and Alternate TJ. He appears very ill. Several others are waiting nearby.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Volker's condition is getting worse. TJ doesn't know what's wrong with him. She thinks maybe his kidneys are failing, but without any medical equipment, she can't be sure. And, there's nothing she can do to help him.

EXT—NOVUS, CLEARING, DAY

[There is a makeshift cross erected over a cairn. The evacuees are standing around it with their heads bowed.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Today we had our first funeral. Doctor Dale Volker.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Volker is standing behind Chloe listening to her read. He is upset. Park comes up the stairs.]

PARK

(to Volker)

Hey. Lieutenant Scott just radioed. The shuttle's loaded and ready to take you back to Destiny to start the uplink.

[Park walks back down the stairs. Volker leaves wordlessly.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-NINE

[Wray is with Yaozu, who is sitting at the table. TJ arrives.]

WRAY
A small cut, but may need a couple of stitches.
YAOZU
I'm fine.

[Yaozu tries to stand up, but TJ pushes him back down into the chair.]

TJ
You will be, once I patch you up.

[She looks at the cut on his head.]

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, NIGHT

[Sitting by a campfire, Alternate TJ is stitching an injury to Alternate Young's leg.]

ALTERNATE TJ
You're not getting enough rest.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Yeah, nobody is.
ALTERNATE TJ
The others follow your lead.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
What is that? The stitches. What is it?
ALTERNATE TJ
Tendons from one of those animals, uh, Greer killed. The needle could use a little work, though. Best Brody could make at short notice.

[They laugh. Alternate Varro comes over carrying an ax and a bundle of wood.]

ALTERNATE VARRO
You okay?
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Yeah.
ALTERNATE TJ

With all this construction going on, people need to be more careful.
(looking up at Alternate Young)

Not overdo it, know when to rest.
ALTERNATE VARRO

(uncomfortable)

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind.

[Alternate Varro walks over to a spot nearby as Alternate TJ finishes the stitches.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Okay, there you go. Take it easy and watch for an infection.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Got it.

[He stands up, but pulls up in pain.]

ALTERNATE YOUNG
Son of a…
ALTERNATE TJ
You okay?
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Yeah, I'm good. I'm good.

[Alternate TJ goes to him.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Hey, listen. Nobody blames you. It is what it is. We're here, and we have our whole lives ahead — make the most of it.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
That easy, huh?
ALTERNATE TJ
No. But beating yourself up every day just makes it worse.

[They take and step towards each other and kiss, Alternate Varro watching from a short distance away.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is alone on the bridge, sitting in the command chair.]

ELI

(over comms)

The Stargate was destroyed in one of the eruptions. Buried in lava, decades ago.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Eli is addressing Yaozu, Ellie and Jason, as well as Young over the comms system. Brody and Park are also there.]

ELI
Most of the people left the planet before then, but after they lost the 'gate, they needed to figure another way out. Both of the countries realized they stood a better chance of survival if they worked together. So, they pooled their resources and they built ships. Huge, huge ships.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

ELI

(over comms)

Not capable of FTL, but big enough to evacuate the rest of the population.
YOUNG

(into comms)

Where did they go?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

BRODY
They went to one of the planets they had previously sent an expedition team to. Ten days travel for us on Destiny in FTL, but it'll take them a few hundred years…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

BRODY

(over comms)

…with their ships.
YOUNG
Good to know they got their act together.

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[Alternate Scott and Alternate James are using crude tools to remove the bark from a large log. There are other people carrying hoes and other tools, and there is a high fence around the compound. Scott stops working.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT
Hey, look. Ah, we never really talked.
ALTERNATE JAMES
Don't worry about it. I'm okay.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
See, this is always the time I do something to sabotage things. It's kind of a defense mechanism. I don't know. Tough to explain.

[Alternate James stops working and straightens up.]

ALTERNATE JAMES
It's not tough at all. Everything you've ever cared about has been taken from you, so you're trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. This is a huge step for you, Matt. I'm proud of you. You should be proud of yourself.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Well, still, um, I, I'll understand if you don't want to come.
ALTERNATE JAMES

Are you kidding? First wedding on Novus? Camile's going to make a pie, so…
(laughs)

I wouldn't miss it.

EXT—NOVUS, CLEARING, DAY

[The evacuees are gathered around to witness Alternate Scott and Alternate Chloe's wedding.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Today was a good day on Novus. The best day yet.

[Alternate Young is officiating, and Alternate Chloe and Alternate Scott are bring attended by a heavily pregnant Alternate TJ and a smiling Alternate Greer. Elsewhere in the crowd, Alternate James and Alternate Varro exchange a smile.]

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[The kino footage shows Alternate Eli, sitting by the fence.]

ALTERNATE ELI

(on video)

So, everybody's hooking up. Matt and Chloe are married. Now rumor is, Varro and James are getting together. Figures. TJ just had her baby boy. Named him Steven, after her father. Yeah, everybody's getting together. Except me. And Brody.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Volker is at a control panel.]

ELI

(over comms)

This is Eli. Is Volker back on the ship yet?
VOLKER

(into comms)

Yeah, I'm here. Are you ready?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Eli, Volker and Park are at computer stations. Ellie, Jason and Yaozu are also there.]

ELI
All set.
BRODY
Starting the transfer now.

[The display screen shows numbers scrolling as the transfer proceeds.]

PARK
Eli, look at this.

[Eli walks to her station.]

PARK
The factory where they built their interstellar ships? According to this, there's one ship still in there. It was still under construction when they left the planet.
ELLIE
How close to completion?
JASON
Is it operational?
PARK
I don't know.

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[The settlement now has large wooden structures. The kino footage shows Alternate Chloe, standing behind a line hanging skins to dry.]

ALTERNATE CHLOE
What?
ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

Let's see.

[Alternate Chloe sighs.]

ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

Come on, I'm documenting your progress. You'll thank me for this later, I promise. Come on.

[Alternate Chloe steps from behind the line. She is pregnant.]

ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

And how far along are you?
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Six months.

[Alternate Eli steps into the video frame.]

ALTERNATE ELI
Matt's going crazy trying to build them a house before the baby arrives.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
I told him not to worry about it, but you know Matt.
ALTERNATE ELI
So, he's going to make a great father.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
And you a great uncle.

[Eli tickles her belly lightly.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[The kino footage ends. Eli has been watching it and looks wistful. Park's console beeps.]

PARK
Oh, crap! I just accessed the geothermal monitoring data. It turns out their theory's right. A black hole has entered this system.

[Everyone comes over to look at the screen.]

PARK
The tidal forces are ripping this planet apart.
ELI
Is that a fault line?
PARK
Yeah! Running right under the city. Very active and very shallow. The crust is increasingly thin like shattering glass, magma bubbling up everywhere. We can't stay here much longer.
BRODY
The database is immense. The transfer could take days.
ELI
Thirty-seven hours with my compression algorithm.
BRODY
Well, let's hope that's enough time.

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate Chloe is on the bed, in labor, sweating profusely and screaming in pain. Alternate Scott is there with her.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT
Good, good, good, you're doing good! You're doing good!
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Where's TJ?!
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Eli went to get her and she, don't worry, don't worry, you're doing fine, I love you, just don't forget to breathe, if you don't breathe it's—
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Just shut up and leave me alone!

[Alternate TJ and Alternate Eli enter the room.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT
Oh, thank God! Come on.

[Alternate TJ climbs up on the bed.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Okay, just breathe.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Yeah, yeah, I, I've been telling her to keep breathing—
ALTERNATE TJ
No, you!
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Okay.

[Alternate TJ checks on Alternate Chloe's progress.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Wow, just on time. You're crowning.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
What can I do?

[Alternate TJ hands him a pair of scissors.]

ALTERNATE TJ

You can get ready to cut the cord.
(to Alternate Chloe)

Okay, Chloe? One last push. Okay?

[Chloe pushes, screaming.]

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate TJ is screaming as she pushes in labor, Alternate Young at her side.]

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate James is screaming as she pushes in labor, Alternate Varro at her side.]

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate Park is screaming as she pushes in labor, Alternate Greer at her side. Later, Alternate TJ is holding a baby wrapped in a blanket.]

ALTERNATE TJ
It's a boy.

[She hands the baby to Alternate Park and Alternate Greer.]

ALTERNATE GREER
I can't believe it. I'm a daddy.
ALTERNATE TJ
You have any names picked out?
ALTERNATE PARK
Dale.

[Alternate Greer kisses the baby on the head.]

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, DAY

[The kino footage shows Eli sitting outside a house.]

ALTERNATE ELI
Babies are being born. Ah, Chloe, Park, James. TJ and Colonel Young already have two, a boy and a girl. It's good. You know, for the future of our settlement. But still, sometimes—

[Alternate Barnes comes out of the house.]

ALTERNATE BARNES
It's a girl. Mom and baby are fine.

[She sits down beside Alternate Eli and sighs.]

ALTERNATE ELI
You okay?
ALTERNATE BARNES
Ah, yeah. Just, ah, tired.
ALTERNATE ELI
Ah, yeah!

[They look at each other.]

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[The kino footage shows Alternate Barnes screaming as she pushes in labor, Alternate Eli at her side.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Chloe and Eli are watching the recording.]

ELI
Me and Corporal Barnes?
CHLOE

(smirking)

Something worth pursuing?

[Eli looks unconvinced.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STORAGE LEVEL

[Rush is on a raised platform where he opens a crate and finds large vacuum-sealed bags of what appears to be gray foam. He opens one, removes the contents and inspects the label. He comes down the ladder and goes to a computer. As he is entering data, another tremor strikes. Several crates fall, knocking Rush to the ground. Greer comes to the door.]

GREER
Rush!
RUSH

(getting up)

Yeah.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is alone on the bridge.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

How bad?
SCOTT

(over comms)

Park says six point two. Pretty strong.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Scott reports to Young over the comms system while Eli, Park and Brody are working at computers.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

The fault line they discovered is getting wider.
ELI
The whole city's crumbling into it.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

All right, well be smart. Don't wait too long to get the hell out of there.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

SCOTT

(into comms)

Yeah, we won't. Got a pretty good eye on it and, uh, it looks like this bunker was built to withstand a lot. I think we're okay.

[Just as he says this, Scott narrowly misses being hit by a piece of rubble that falls from above.]

EXT—NOVUS, SETTLEMENT CAMP, GARDEN, DAY

[Alternate Wray, Alternate Chloe and Alternate TJ are working in the garden. There are young children nearby.]

ALTERNATE CHLOE
And?
ALTERNATE WRAY
And what?
ALTERNATE CHLOE
How was it?
ALTERNATE WRAY
It was fine. We had a very pleasant dinner. Of all the dates I've had since we got here, she's easily the most compatible with me.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
So then, what's the problem?
ALTERNATE WRAY
I don't know. I mean, I've already found my soul mate. I don't need another.

[Alternate TJ jumps up.]

ALTERNATE TJ
Ah, Steven, no! Don't eat that!

[She runs to stop the child from eating part of a plant, picking him up and laughing with him.]

ALTERNATE WRAY
That was a close call.
ALTERNATE TJ
Yeah.

[Alternate TJ grips her left wrist.]

ALTERNATE CHLOE
You okay?
ALTERNATE TJ
Yeah, yeah.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[TJ is sitting alone, watching the kino recording and reading some text. She is concerned.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Volker is at a control panel. Young is also there.]

SCOTT

(over comms)

Records say there's actually a ship still in the factory…

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

SCOTT

(into comms)

…a few kilometers outside the city. It doesn't say if it's operational or not, but if it is, it'll be capable of holding the entire group of descendants.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

YOUNG

(into comms)

All right, go ahead and check it out.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

ELI

(into comms)

How's the transfer coming?
VOLKER

(over comms)

So far, so good.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

VOLKER

(into comms)

Just over nine hundred exabytes.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

VOLKER

(over comms)

Still a drop in the bucket, though.

[Scott opens the elevator to find Rush inside, numerous crates stacked behind him.]

RUSH
Perfect. I need you to take me back to Destiny.
SCOTT
No, I'm flying them over to check out that ship-building factory.
RUSH
Yeah, fine. Then you can take me back to the Destiny.

EXT—NOVUS, RIVERBANK, DAY

[Alternate TJ is doing laundry on the riverbank, scrubbing clothes on a washboard. Her left hand cramps up and she grips her wrist, then her left thigh.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[TJ is watching a kino recording and crying.]

ALTERNATE TJ

(on video)

My symptoms are getting worse. It's, uh, affecting my legs. I'm losing my balance, stumbling. My speech is also slurring, words here and there. I have trouble eating.

[Chloe, who had been sitting at another computer, gets up and comes over to TJ.]

ALTERNATE TJ

(on video)

I wish I could do a more accurate diagnosis, but…it sounds like ALS. Lou Gehrig's Disease.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Varro comes down the spiral staircase. TJ, Chloe and Wray are there.]

VARRO
Tamara, I just heard. This disease — just because the other you got it when you came to this planet, doesn't mean you'll get it.
TJ
Yeah, it does. It's not something that you contract. I'm carrying it right now.
VARRO
Is there anything you can do? Any medicines?
TJ
There's no cure.

EXT—SHUTTLE FLYING OVER NOVUS, DAY

[The shuttle flies through heavy cloud cover.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott is at the controls, along with Rush, Jason and Ellie.]

SCOTT
Coming up on the factory.

[Rush looks out the window and sees a river of lava cutting through the city below. Scott looks at him, and he shakes his head.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[The elevator opens and Young steps out.]

YOUNG
TJ.
TJ
Colonel, you didn't have to come down here.

[Young comes over to TJ and Varro; Wray and Chloe take a few steps away.]

YOUNG
Volker's checking Destiny's medical database to see, see if there's anything, anything in there at all on this disease. Okay?

[TJ nods.]

TJ

(crying)

The first, um, symptoms presented five years after we arrived on the planet. I died a few years after that.

[TJ and Young stand looking at each other.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

This is Scott. Has Colonel Young arrived there yet?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Chloe comes over and switches on the communications system. TJ goes and stands by the railing.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Yeah, ah, Scott, I'm here.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Yeah, we just did a pass over the site where the factory used to be. It's gone. The fault line cut right through it; it's a river of lava now.
RUSH
We need to leave this planet immediately.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

YOUNG

(into comms)

Agreed. Scott, get everyone back to Destiny and then…

INT—SHUTTLE

[Jason and Ellie look horrified as they listen to Young.]

YOUNG

(over comms)

…get back down here. We'll, ah, we'll start clearing out.
SCOTT

(into comms)

Yeah, but Sir, what about all those people back on Destiny? The nearest planet is ten days—
RUSH
No, no. Don't worry about it. They'll be fine.
YOUNG

(over comms)

Well, we don't have a choice. We have to, uh…

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

YOUNG

(into comms)

…we have to get everyone back on board.
SCOTT

(over comms)

Copy.

[Young comes over to TJ, who is leaning on the railing, crying. He puts an arm around her shoulders, and she puts her face in his chest, sobbing.]

INT—NOVUS, ALTERNATE YOUNG/JOHANSEN HOUSEHOLD, DINING ROOM

[Alternate Young, Alternate TJ and their two children, Steven and Sara, are at the table eating a meal. Alternate TJ has trouble cutting her food. Later, she has trouble serving a stew and Alternate Young takes over for her. Later, Alternate Young is feeding Alternate TJ with a spoon while the children eat. She is having trouble swallowing.]

INT—NOVUS, ALTERNATE YOUNG/JOHANSEN HOUSEHOLD, BEDROOM

[Alternate TJ is lying in bed and Alternate Young is helping her to drink from a cup through a straw. Later, Alternate Young is sitting beside her as she lies immobile in the bed. He takes her hand, crying.]

INT—NOVUS, ALTERNATE YOUNG/JOHANSEN HOUSEHOLD, DINING ROOM

[Alternate Young and the children are sitting quietly at the table. The children are playing absently with their food. Alternate TJ's chair is empty.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Park has a pack over her shoulder, ready to leave. Eli paces.]

ELI
About a third of the database has been transferred. Still a long way to go.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

YOUNG
We're cutting it short. I want everyone back to the surface as soon as possible for evac.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Park nods enthusiastically and begins to leave.]

ELI
But Colonel, there's still so much that we could—

[He is cut off by another powerful tremor. Brody comes to stand by a pylon with Eli.]

ELI
Get down!
BRODY
Yeah!

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

[Everyone ducks for cover until the tremor subsides.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Park, Brody and Eli relax a little.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

YOUNG
You all right?
ELI

(from below)

Yeah.
YOUNG
All right, get back to the surface, wait for Scott's shuttle.

[Yaozu comes up the stairs from a lower level.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Park presses the button for the elevator.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL TWENTY-EIGHT

YOUNG

(to Yaozu)

You all right?
YAOZU

(to TJ)

I heard the others talking about you. The disease you carry; we have a cure.
WRAY
You do?
YAOZU
Our scientists discovered it over two hundred years ago. Cures for other diseases as well. All of them in the archive.

EXT—DESTINY IN ORBIT

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

[Rush is cutting the "foam" with a knife.]

VOLKER

(over radio)

Rush, you back on Destiny?
RUSH

(into radio)

Yes, I'm here.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

VOLKER

(into radio)

And why didn't you tell me?

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

RUSH

(testily, into radio)

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware I had to check in with you.
VOLKER

(over radio)

You heard about TJ.

[Rush pauses.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Yeah.
VOLKER

(over radio)

I'm searching the Ancient medical…

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

VOLKER

(into radio)

…database for anything on ALS, and I could really use some help.

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

I'm sorry; I'm a bit busy at the moment.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

VOLKER

(into radio)

Doing what?

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

Something more pressing. I'll be with you when I'm finished.

INT—NOVUS, LIVING ROOM IN HOUSE

[The kino footage shows an aged Alternate Scott and Alternate Chloe sitting on a sofa, smiling.]

ALTERNATE CHLOE
Our son, Alan, just broke the news. His wife, Clare, is pregnant.
ALTERNATE SCOTT
Grandparents. We're going to be grandparents.

[The kino footage shows an aged Alternate James and Alternate Varro sitting on the sofa, holding hands.]

ALTERNATE VARRO
Well, it's that time again.
ALTERNATE JAMES
The yearly family reunion. Three kids and five grandkids.

[The kino footage shows an aged Alternate Wray sitting on the sofa holding some knitting.]

ALTERNATE WRAY
Just drafted a rough outline of a constitution. People are responding well to it. For the most part. Oh, and, ah, we're converting one of the storage houses into a schoolroom. Eli's teaching the kids. He's actually quite good at it. A wonderful teacher.
ALTERNATE ELI

(voice)

Hmm. Thanks.

[The kino footage shows an aged Alternate Greer and Alternate Park sitting on the sofa, his arm around her.]

ALTERNATE PARK
Four sons, three daughters, fifteen grandchildren.
ALTERNATE GREER
I'm tired.

[They laugh.]

[The kino footage shows an aged Alternate Brody sitting on the sofa.]

ALTERNATE BRODY
All these kids, laughing and dancing. Everybody dancing. Tearing up my lawn. When I was a kid, we had more respect for people—

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Touchdown, Sir. Greer and his team are bringing up the next batch of supplies.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STAIRWAY

[Young, TJ and Varro are descending the stairs.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Copy that. Chloe and Wray are also headed up with Yaozu. Take Brody and Park with you. I'll take everyone else on the other shuttle.
SCOTT

(over radio)

Copy that.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[Young and the others arrive at the level where Eli is waiting.]

YOUNG
Eli, anything?
ELI
We had to compress the data to speed up the transfer, one huge file, which means I can't do a specific search for ALS until we uncompress what we've already uploaded. And I can't do that until we stop the transfer. About a third of the database has already gone through, so there's a one-in-three chance it's in there.
VARRO
The longer we wait, the better the chances. I say it's worth it to stay and—

[He is interrupted by another tremor. Varro and Young push Eli and TJ to cover as the building shakes violently. Masonry falls down around them, and the lights go out.]

EXT—NOVUS SETTLEMENT, DAY

[Alternate Young is walking along a gantry at the top of the fence around the settlement. He stops and looks out.]

CHLOE

(voice, reading)

Colonel Young won reelection. Most of us are happy, but some still want to do things differently. Today, a group of them announced they're leaving. Whether they stay here on Novus or 'gate to another planet, they didn't say.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

[The floor is strewn with rubble. A large section of the stairway lies on the floor. Everyone looks around with flashlights.]

ELI
Power's cut off, data transfer's shut down, and communications.
VARRO
A big section of stairs are out, about six levels up.
YOUNG

(into radio)

Scott, this is Young. Can you read?

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott, Chloe, Wray, Greer and some other personnel are in the shuttle.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Yeah, Colonel.
YOUNG

(over radio)

Everyone make it out?
SCOTT

(into radio)

Yeah, everyone's okay. They're all aboard. You all right?

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

YOUNG

(into radio)

Yeah, we're fine, but we're cut off. No power to the elevators and the stairs are out. We're going to have to climb up the ladder.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott and Greer exchange a worried look.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LEVEL THIRTY

YOUNG
Eli.

[Eli goes to the ladder, which consists of rungs bolted into the wall, and grabs the first rung. It shakes partially loose in his hand.]

ELI
Great.

[He begins to climb, followed by TJ. A small tremor has them holding on tightly.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, STAIRWAY, UPPER LEVEL

[Scott and Greer are on the stairway, looking over. They go to a platform with two other personnel.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Colonel, this is Scott. We made it down to level fourteen. Stairs are out below. Got rope if you need it.
YOUNG

(over radio)

You should be on your way back to Destiny.
SCOTT

(into radio)

We'll leave when you leave, Sir.

[Greer is looking down with his flashlight and points.]

GREER
There's Eli.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, LADDER

[Eli, TJ, Varro and Young are making their way up the ladder. Suddenly, one of the rungs comes loose and TJ falls. Varro reaches out and catches her by her pack with one hand, swinging her in the air.]

TJ
Platform!

[Varro swings her and she grabs the bottom of the railing around the platform. The rung he is holding with his other hand comes loose and he falls. Young reaches out for him, but he falls into the darkness below, hitting the floor with a heavy thud. TJ climbs onto the platform.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, UPPER LEVEL

[Eli climbs over the railing to safety.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Throw down the rope. We just lost Varro.

[Greer throws the rope over the railing.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, LOWER LEVEL

[Young climbs over the railing onto the platform where TJ is waiting. He is holding the rope, which he secures around TJ's waist.]

YOUNG
You all right?
TJ
Yeah.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, UPPER LEVEL

YOUNG

(over radio)

Okay, pull her up.

[Everyone helps pull the rope.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, LOWER LEVEL

[Young is looking down into the darkness with his flashlight.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

We got her. Sending the rope back down.

[The rope falls and Young secures it around his own waist.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, UPPER LEVEL

[Scott and Greer wait anxiously.]

EXT—NOVUS, CITY, DAY

[The fault line, filled with lava, is widening.]

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, UPPER LEVEL

YOUNG

(over radio)

Okay, pull.

[Everyone helps pull the rope up as tremors continue to shake the complex. Varro's unconscious body comes up over the railing. TJ checks his pulse and pupils.]

TJ
He's alive.

INT—NOVUS UNDERGROUND COMPLEX, PLATFORM, LOWER LEVEL

[The rope comes back to the bottom level where Young is waiting. He secures it around his waist just another tremor hits and masonry starts to fall around him.]

YOUNG

(yelling)

Pull! Now!

INT—SHUTTLE

[Park activates some controls on the shuttle as Scott and Greer come in the rear doors, the shuttle shaking violently.]

WRAY
Where are the rest?
GREER
We put them on the other shuttle.
SCOTT
Everyone hang on!

[Wray, Brody, Park, Yaozu and Chloe hang on in fear.]

EXT—NOVUS SKY, DAY

[The two shuttles fly up out of the clouds. The ground below is a network of lava-filled fissures.]

INT—SECOND SHUTTLE

[Young is in the command chair. TJ and Eli are seeing to Varro in the back. Young glances back at them for a moment.]

INT—NOVUS, BEDROOM IN HOUSE

[Alternate Young, extremely old and on the brink of death, is lying in a bed. Alternate Chloe, also elderly, is sitting beside him. Young's adult son, Steven, is also there.]

ALTERNATE YOUNG
Chloe… I'm sorry, Chloe.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Sorry for what?
ALTERNATE YOUNG
I never got us home.

[Alternate Scott enters with Alternate Young's adult daughter, Sara. She goes to kneel by the bed.]

ALTERNATE SCOTT
We got here as quick as we could.
ALTERNATE YOUNG
Sara.
SARA
I'm here, Dad.
ALTERNATE CHLOE
Colonel… We are home.

[Alternate Young dies.]

EXT—DESTINY SPACE

[Destiny jumps into FTL.]

INT—DESTINY AIR SCRUBBER HATCH

[Rush is replacing a scrubber. Park, Volker and Brody are there.]

PARK
For CO2 scrubbing.
RUSH
A highly advanced substance. Much more effective than lime. This one canister alone will last for years.
PARK
And you brought back cases of it?
BRODY
We'll certainly need it with all these extra people on board.
PARK
Well, it's just ten days until we drop them off with the people on the expedition planet.
BRODY
Yeah.

[Brody and Park walk away. Volker watches Rush until the others have gone.]

VOLKER
It burns you up, doesn't it?
RUSH
What?
VOLKER
We did all right after leaving Destiny. We got along just fine. Without you.

[Volker walks away.]

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

[Varro is lying unconscious in a bed. TJ and Young are there.]

TJ
Broken ribs, ah, lacerations, bruises. He's stable for now, but all we can do is wait, watch.

[Eli enters.]

ELI
We've been searching what we were able to transfer from the archive. The ALS cure wasn't in there.
YOUNG
Well, what about Destiny's Ancient database?
ELI
Nothing in there yet, either. It's difficult, different names for diseases, procedures. It's hard to do a quick search.
TJ
Ah, what about the ships that they used to evacuate Novus? They probably took a copy of the archive with them, so when we drop people off on the planet—
ELI
They won't be there yet. The ships don't have FTL. They won't arrive for, er, two hundred years. Find them in the middle of empty space…
TJ
Yeah.

[TJ turns away, upset.]

ELI
But TJ, there's, there's so much else that did make it in the transfer. A ton of other medical stuff. We can learn from it. From our descendants. We will figure out a cure. I know it.

[TJ smiles at him, her eyes filled with tears.]

EXT—NOVUS SETTLEMENT, DAY

[There are children running on the grass, several buildings line a street. There is a crowd gathered outside a building, the sign over the door of which reads "Eli Wallace Elementary".]

MATTHEW WALLACE
I'd like to thank you all for coming to this very special occasion: the dedication of our beautiful new school. My grandfather spent his life laying down the foundation for our education system. That's why this new school bears his name. As principal, I'll do my best to uphold his legacy of inquiry and discovery, and to carry it forward to future generations. Now please, help me welcome our guest of honor, two-term mayor, the author of our constitution and the last surviving member of the settlers from Destiny. Camile Wray.

[There is a round of applause as the very old Alternate Wray is helped to the podium.]

ALTERNATE WRAY

I want to begin with a few words of greeting.
(speaks Chinese)

May all things go according to the wishes of those that hear it. When we first arrived here, we thought we had failed. We didn't achieve the mission on Destiny. But now, looking at all your smiling faces, at this beautiful new school, I can't help but feel a great sense of pride and success. Because, as we discovered, our mission is and always will be, the journey itself.

[The settlement evolves, becoming bigger and more modern through the ages until a ship flies out over the skyline.]
