EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny is being fired on by multiple drones. There are numerous explosions, both on Destiny's hull and as drones are hit by return fire.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Brody, Volker, Park and Eli are at the control stations while Young sits in the command chair with Rush standing beside him. There are sparks and small explosions coming from the control panels and walls.]

ELI

(shouting over the noise)

There's hundreds of these things! There's no way we're going to be able to shoot them all down!

YOUNG
What about the main weapon?

RUSH
No, it's useless against the drones. The command ship's out of range. It'd just be a waste of power.

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Chloe and Scott are by a control panel. He his holding her by the wrists.]

SCOTT
Chloe, tell me what you did.

CHLOE
I sent a signal.

SCOTT
To who?!

[Scott turns to the doorway to see Greer and two other marines entering, weapons drawn.]

SCOTT
No! No, no, no, no, no. Easy. Easy. Stand down.

[Greer points his handgun at Chloe.]

GREER
Don't move.

[Chloe puts her hands up in submission.]

SCOTT

Wait! Wait, wait, just wait.
(turning to Chloe)

Chloe!

CHLOE
Look, the aliens who took me, they followed us to this galaxy. They've been looking for us ever since. Now they know where we are.

OPENING CREDIT

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny is being fired on by multiple drones. As the battle goes on, three "Space" alien ships drop out of hyperspace in the distance.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

VOLKER
Three hyperspace windows just opened.

YOUNG
More drones?

VOLKER
No, they're ships. It's the aliens from the other galaxy.

[Everyone looks up in concern.]

VOLKER
They're headed straight for us.

[Another series of small explosions occur on the bridge.]

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Greer continues to aim his weapon at Chloe.]

GREER

(to Scott)

She sold us out.

SCOTT
Would you just hang on?

[Greer cocks the gun.]

GREER

(to Chloe)

I told you this might come down to you and me.

CHLOE
I know, but not now. Not yet. I'm still in control. I did it to help us. It's our only chance.

SCOTT
What are you talking about?

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The battle against the drones continues, but many of them veer away and fly towards the three "Space" alien ships.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

PARK
Half the drones just veered off.

VOLKER
They're attacking the alien ships.

RUSH
They don't discriminate. Anything that's not part of the cluster's a target.

ELI
We might just be able to hold them of now.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[Several drones are hit by Destiny's fire, but one gets a direct hit on the bridge area of the ship.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[An explosion and showers of sparks rock the bridge.]

ELI
Sorry! Sorry! Some of them are still getting through!

SCOTT

(over radio)

Colonel, this is Scott. We found Chloe.

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

SCOTT

(into radio)

It looks like she may have given away our position to the aliens who took her.

YOUNG

(over radio)

Roger that, Lieutenant.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

We've got them on our screens.

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

SCOTT

(into radio)

Sir, she says she did it as a diversion.

INT—BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over radio)

To give us a chance to get the command ship.

VOLKER
I was going to say, it's our chance to get the hell out of here.

RUSH
No, we'll never get out of this system. Not without FTL.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Put her in a holding cell and this time make sure she doesn't get out.

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

SCOTT

(into radio, looking apologetically at Chloe)

Yes, Sir.

INT—BRIDGE

[Telford enters.]

TELFORD
Everett, I hate to say it, but I think Rush is right. This could be our only chance.

BRODY
There's a lot of drones protecting that command ship. If we do this, we're going to take pretty heavy fire.

ELI
Maybe not. I've been thinking. They all take their orders from the command ship, right? Probably through some sort of subspace communication. Well, what if we could jam that signal? Even for just a few seconds, that might give us the time that we need.

YOUNG

(to Rush)

Can that work?

RUSH
It just might. Let's plot a course for the command ship.

TELFORD
Eli, go. I'll help with the weapons.

[Rush and Eli go to a control station on the upper deck of the bridge while Telford takes Eli's place at the front control station.]

YOUNG
Give me all the speed you can muster.

[Brody and Volker exchange a concerned look.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott and Chloe arrive at the holding cell, followed by Greer and the other two marines. Scott opens the door, then Chloe walks in and turns to face him.]

CHLOE
Believe whatever you want, Matt, but I did this for all of us.

[The lights flicker as Scott stands looking at her, then he closes the door and locks it. He turns to walk away.]

SCOTT

(to Greer)

Three-man detail here at all times.

GREER
Yes, Sir.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The drones continue firing on Destiny, and some of them are hit be return fire.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

VOLKER
We're on course for the command ship. We'll be there in two minutes.

YOUNG
How's it coming, Rush?

RUSH
Almost there.

[Sparks burst from the control panels.]

BRODY
We just lost another shield generator. We've got multiple hull breaches.

YOUNG
Seal off all affected areas. Prep the main weapon.

[Park and Telford operate controls.]

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The main weapon's cannons are lowered from the underside of the ship.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[There is an alarm beeping on Brody's console.]

BRODY
Shields are failing. If we keep up this acceleration, we're going to lost hull integrity.

YOUNG
Now would be a good time, Rush.

[Eli and Rush are working frantically at the control station.]

ELI
Maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut.

RUSH
Patience, Eli.

[The crew look around in alarm as they hear more explosions.]

RUSH
All right, I've got it.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The drones that were attacking the ship suddenly stop firing and power down. Destiny continues on its course past them.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
The drones have stopped firing. It's working.

YOUNG
Are we in range?

VOLKER
Just a few more seconds.

[The ship is shuddering violently.]

ELI
They're going to re-establish the signal!

RUSH
Now, just hold on.

VOLKER
That's it, we're in range.

YOUNG
Fire!

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The weapon on the ship's underside fires several volleys from the top cannons and one large on from the lower cannon. The command ship is obliterated.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
Got him!

YOUNG
Nice shooting.

VOLKER
There's no sign of activity from the drones. It looks like they've all gone dormant.

RUSH

(quietly, to Eli)

See what you can do when you apply yourself?

[Eli shakes his head. Rush walks around the bridge to the various control stations.]

RUSH

(to Volker)

How's it going with those aliens? Chloe's friends.

VOLKER
Two of the ships were destroyed in the battle. The other one's just sitting there.

RUSH

(to Brody)

Whoa, that's giving off a lot of radiation.

BRODY
They're probably just as damaged as we are.

RUSH
Well, let's hope so.

[Rush and Young exchange a look.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is treating the wounded. Scott enters.]

TJ

(to someone helping her)

That's good. Okay, thank you.

[TJ nods at Scott as she removes her gloves.]

SCOTT
How's it going?

TJ
It could be worse, I suppose. A lot of minor injuries, a couple of serious burns, but no fatalities.

SCOTT
What about Baras?

[Baras is sitting behind TJ, his arm in a cast and sling.]

TJ
Chloe broke his arm in two places. Did you know she could do something like that?

SCOTT
No.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Brody and Young approach where Volker is working on a shield emitter relay in the wall.]

BRODY
All right, the good news is, FTL didn't take any more damage. In fact, we should have it back online pretty soon.

YOUNG
And the bad news?

VOLKER
Um, you're looking at it. It's a shield emitter relay. There are four more just like it, completely burnt out.

BRODY
We have to bypass them before we can restore full coverage, which we need in order to jump.

YOUNG
How long?

BRODY
Couple of hours, at least.

YOUNG
Keep me posted. Where's Rush?

VOLKER
Last I heard, he was heading to the control interface room.

[Young walks away.]

VOLKER
Okay. Want to grab a flashlight?

INT—CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush is sitting by the control panel, flicking through a notebook, when Young enters.]

RUSH
Just going over Chloe's handiwork. You know, she bypassed the communication panel in the bridge, and that took some doing.

YOUNG
Well, she claims she did it to help us.

RUSH
And so it did. This time.

YOUNG
Wait a minute, I thought you liked the new Chloe.

RUSH
Well, did I ever give the impression I didn't like the old one? Just because I took a pragmatic approach to her situation doesn't mean to say I don't care for her. If I could have done something to stop it, I would have.

YOUNG
She took out a guard twice her size.

RUSH
Yeah, and walked through a lockdown protocol like it wasn't there. Neither of us may want to admit this. She's beyond our control.

TELFORD

(over radio)

Everett, this is David.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead.

TELFORD

(over radio)

I've been in contact with the Ursini on the seed ship. We've got a problem.

INT—MESS

[Young, Rush, Telford and Wray are gathered for a meeting.]

YOUNG
What the hell were they thinking?

TELFORD
They didn't trust us. They thought the second we were clear of the system, we'd be on our merry way and leave them holding the bag.

RUSH
Well, that would have been the logical thing to do.

[Everyone looks at Rush.]

RUSH
It's not our fight.

TELFORD
Well, it is now. With the drones deactivated, the Ursini thought it was safe to finally contact their colony. The signal that they got back was in machine language. It was another command ship. The only possible conclusion is that the colony had been found by a second cluster and destroyed.

WRAY
So they really are the last of their kind.

TELFORD
More than likely. But that's not the only problem.

RUSH
When they sent the signal, they gave away our position.

TELFORD
Exactly. More drones are coming.

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[Volker is kneeling down working on the shield emitter relay while Brody stands behind him holding the flashlight.]

VOLKER
Could you hold it up, please?

[Rush arrives.]

RUSH
Progress, gentlemen?

BRODY
Um—

VOLKER
Flashlight!

BRODY
Yeah. Uh, we, we've run a bypass through this section. We're about to test it.

VOLKER
Okay, we're good to go.

[Volker stands up and all three men back away a little.]

BRODY

(into radio)

Park…

INT—BRIDGE

[Park is alone on the bridge.]

BRODY

(over radio)

…you reading me?

Park (into radio)

Go ahead.

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

BRODY

(into radio)

Let's power up. Say, ten percent.

PARK

(over radio)

Copy, ten percent.

INT—BRIDGE

[Park goes to the shield controls.]

PARK

(into radio)

Okay, here it comes.

[She presses some buttons then moves a slider.]

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[The relay lights up and it begins to hum.]

VOLKER
So far, so good.

BRODY

(into radio)

Let's go to fifty.

INT—BRIDGE

PARK

(into radio)

Roger, fifty.

[She moves the slider further.]

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[The humming intensifies then spark begin to shoot out of it. The men jump back.]

BRODY

(shouting into radio)

Cut it! Cut it! Cut it!

INT—BRIDGE

[Park shuts is down.]

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[The three men step closer to inspect the damage.]

VOLKER
Okay, so it might take longer than we thought.

[Rush gives Brody a look and walks away without speaking.]

VOLKER
Flashlight?

[As he takes a step towards the relay, another big spark shoots out and they both jump.]

INT—MESS

[Eli, Wray, Scott, Telford, Rush, Young, Volker, Park and Brody are gathered for a meeting.]

WRAY
Wait, I thought the FTL was fixed.

RUSH
It is. Without full shield coverage, we risk tearing the ship apart the second we jump.

BRODY
How long till the second cluster gets here?

TELFORD
There's no way to know for sure. Could be any time.

PARK
I don't suppose there's any chance of negotiating with these things?

TELFORD
It's an automated weapons system. The Ursini believe that the civilization that created them died out a long time ago.

RUSH
And they're machines. One simple directive. Find alien technology and destroy it. Reasoning with them is not an option.

SCOTT
What about the Ursini? We did a tandem jump with them before. Why can't we do it again?

VOLKER
Well, that doesn't solve our basic problem, unless they can extend their shields all the way round the Destiny, which I doubt.

TELFORD
Even if we trusted them enough to try it, which I'm guessing we don't, they blew their FTL by dropping out so quickly. That was a one-shot deal for them.

PARK
We managed to jam the command signal temporarily, right? Maybe there's a way of making it permanent.

RUSH
Not without a greater understanding of the technology involved.

ELI
Maybe we should get one.

[Everyone looks at Eli expectantly.]

ELI
One of the drones, I mean. Right now, those things are totally harmless, at least theoretically. I'm pretty sure we could fit one of the smaller ones in the back of the shuttle.

SCOTT
No, wait a minute. You want us to bring one of those things on the ship?

ELI
What I want is to be as far away from here as possible.

RUSH
You know, he's right. It could be very useful.

WRAY
And very dangerous.

RUSH
Well, every second we stay here is dangerous.

YOUNG
This new cluster's going to have its own command ship, right?

RUSH
Yeah, most likely.

YOUNG
All right, so when it shows up, what happens to the drones that are already here?

RUSH
Well, that's just one of those things we're going to have to try and find out, isn't it?

YOUNG

(to Scott)

Suit up.

[Scott nods.]

INT—SHUTTLE BAY CORRIDOR

[Scott and Greer are preparing to get into their space suits.]

GREER
So you really think this is a good idea?

SCOTT
I think we don't get paid to think.

GREER
We get paid?!

[Park arrives.]

PARK
Hey!

SCOTT
Hey, what are you doing here?

PARK
I guess it's my turn to go for a ride.

[Scott nods. Greer picks up a helmet and presents it ceremoniously to Park.]

GREER
Congratulations.

[Park takes the helmet and smiles uncertainly at Greer.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(over comms)

All right, Sir. We are all cross-checked and good to go.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant, be careful.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Copy that.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Park, Scott and Greer are at their positions in the cockpit.]

SCOTT
Launching shuttle.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The shuttle lifts off the docking station and flies away from Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

Any activity from the drones?

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott looks towards Park, who shakes her head.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

Nothing yet.

GREER
We got a big one coming up here. Two o'clock high.

EXT—SPACE

[There is a large drone drifting in space. The shuttle flies past it slowly.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott sighs with relief.]

SCOTT
No reaction.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Eli is leaning over a control station at the front of the bridge. He looks around to Young at the sound of Scott's voice.]

SCOTT

(over comms)

It looks like Eli was right.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Well, that doesn't mean I want you spending any more time out there than necessary.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

Let's get this done, get you back inside.

PARK
I've got a candidate, two kilometers dead ahead.

SCOTT
Let's go get it.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHLOE'S HOLDING CELL

[Three guards are outside the room. Wray arrives with a tray of food.]

WRAY
Open the door.

[As the door opens, the guards raise their weapons and aim them at it. Chloe is sitting on the bench inside the room.]

WRAY

(gesturing at the guards)

I'm sorry about this.

[Chloe gets up and comes over to Wray and takes the tray.]

CHLOE
After what I did to Corporal Baras, I can hardly blame them, can I?

EXT—SPACE

[There is a small drone floating in space. The shuttle maneuvers into position so that the drone is near the rear door.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[They have put on their helmets and Park is breathing heavily. Greer approaches her.]

GREER
Just breathe normally.

[Park nods and Greer giver her a thumbs-up.]

GREER
You all right?

[Park returns the thumbs-up. and smiles.]

PARK
I'm good.

[Greer gives the side of Park's helmet a tap.]

SCOTT
Switching off artificial gravity. Going to mag boots.

PARK
Roger that.

SCOTT
Venting atmosphere.

[As the atmosphere is vented, Greer returns to his seat and Park approaches the rear door.]

SCOTT
Keep an eye on those screens, Sergeant.

PARK

(looking out the window in the door)

I see it. Open the door.

[The door opens and Park looks out to see the drone just behind the shuttle.]

PARK
Okay, we need to move left about a meter.

[Scott nods and operates the controls and the shuttle drifts sideways.]

PARK
Now down a little.

[The shuttle drifts until the drone is lined up directly behind it.]

PARK
Now straight back.

[The shuttle drifts backwards and the drone enters the rear door and into the holding section. Scott closes the door.]

PARK
That's it, we got it.

SCOTT
Repressurizing.

PARK
Now slowly reinstate artificial gravity.

[Scott operates the controls and the drone drops heavily to the floor. Everybody jumps.]

PARK

(nervously)

I said "slowly".

SCOTT
Sorry! Is it doing anything?

PARK
I don't think so. I think we're good.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

I need your status, Lieutenant.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Sir, we got it on board. It doesn't seem to be doing anything, so I guess we're going to head back.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Nice work.

[An alarm sounds at a control station.]

ELI
Hang on.

[Eli operates the control panel.]

ELI
We've got movement out there.

INT—SHUTTLE

[There is a beeping from Greer's control panel.]

GREER
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Proximity alert.

PARK
Is it a drone?

GREER
I don't think so. Too big. Way too big.

[They look out the front window of the shuttle and the "Space" alien ship rises into view directly in front of them.]

SCOTT
Oh, boy.

EXT—SHUTTLE IN SPACE

[The "Space" alien ship has positioned itself directly in front of the shuttle.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

Ah, Sir, we got a little problem here. That alien ship, the one that survived the battle? It's parked itself right in front of us.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Well, what's it doing?

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Right now it's just sitting there.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young has an expression of concern on his face.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
I'm going to try something here. I'm going to try backing away real slow.

PARK
Are you sure that's a good idea?

SCOTT
Well, we've got to get this thing back to the ship. Can't stay out here forever.

[Park's console beeps.]

PARK
Wait, we're getting a message.

GREER
What's it say?

[Park reads the message on the screen then turns to Scott and Greer.]

PARK
"No escape".

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Young, Wray, Rush and Telford are meeting.]

YOUNG
So, they're saying that if the shuttle tries to return to Destiny or if we make any hostile moves, they will open fire.

TELFORD
What do they want?

RUSH
Our help.

YOUNG
They've intercepted they Ursini signal; they know another wave is coming.

RUSH
It's a ploy to keep us here. Force us to help fend off the drones while they get their hyperdrive back online.

WRAY
But, we need the shuttle. We need to study the drone.

YOUNG
I say we call their bluff. Let them know what's happening, agree to help them only on the condition that they let the shuttle come back.

TELFORD
They'll assume we're lying. They don't know that we can't jump.

YOUNG
I don't think we give them a choice. If they're half as badly damaged as we are, they're not going to want a fight. They're going to have to trust us.

RUSH
We're going to have to trust each other. They've got something we need.

TELFORD
What are you talking about?

RUSH
Chloe.

WRAY
What about her?

RUSH
If anyone can undo what's happening to her, it's them. They're the ones that did it to her in the first place.

TELFORD
You want us to send her over there? With all that's happened, with everything that she knows about this ship?

RUSH
We've exhausted all medical avenues, we cannot keep onboard the ship. This could be our last chance.

INT—CHLOE'S HOLDING CELL

[TJ is talking with Chloe.]

TJ
The Colonel's not going to force you to go, but if you don't, chances are he'll put you off the ship at the first opportunity. It doesn't seem like you have much to lose.

CHLOE
You've never been on one of those ships.

TJ

(crying)

I'm sorry. I wish I could have done more to help you.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

With all due respect, Sir, it sounds crazy. How do we know they'll do what they say? How do we even know…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

…they'll give her back?

YOUNG

(into comms)

Look, I know this is difficult, Lieutenant, but…

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

…we've run our of options.

SCOTT

(bitterly)

Yes, Sir, if you say so.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush's console beeps.]

RUSH
They're sending a message. They've agreed to our proposal.

EXT—SHUTTLE IN SPACE

[The shuttle fires up and flies away from the alien ship.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
You do realize there's a good chance this is what they wanted all along? Everett, listen to me. I've tried to contact the Ursini. They're not responding any more. The seed ship's gone dark.

YOUNG
So?

TELFORD
So, maybe that's something we should consider. Power down completely, everything but minimum life support. If we have no energy signature, then we're just another hunk of metal in a graveyard.

YOUNG
Yeah, but even if we're not giving off EM, we're still going to stand out like a sore thumb.

TELFORD
I'm just saying maybe they know something they we don't. They have fought these things before.

YOUNG
Yeah. And they, uh, they got wiped out, didn't they?

[Telford nods in acknowledgement and Young walks away.]

INT—SHUTTLE BAY

[Eli, Brody and Volker approach the rear door of the docked shuttle with a kino slide. The door of the shuttle opens to reveal the drone, Park, Scott and Greer. Volker whistles in awe as the three men enter the shuttle and gather around the drone.]

SCOTT
Are you sure you want to bring this thing inside?

BRODY
Well, we need to hook it up to the ship's diagnostic equipment. It's the only way.

ELI
Is it heavy?

GREER
One way to find out.

SCOTT

(to Park)

Why don't you go grab that kino slide? All right, thanks.

[Park leaves the shuttle. Greer leans tentatively over the drone and gives it a tap with the metal glove of his space suit. Everyone takes a step back, then they all move in and prepare to pick it up.]

SCOTT
On three. One, two, three.

[There is a deal of groaning as they struggle to hold the drone while Park maneuvers the kino slide into place.]

ELI
It's heavy! It's heavy!

PARK
Okay, ease it down.

[They lower the drone onto the kino slide, which takes a moment to adjust to the weight.]

GREER

(to Eli)

You better be sure about this.

SCOTT
All right, let's move. Let's get it out of here.

[They guide the kino slide out of the shuttle.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray and Rush are walking along.]

WRAY
I have to say, I'm a little surprised that you of all people would be the one to suggest this plan.

RUSH
And why's that, then?

WRAY
For all we know, they're going to download every scrap of information she has about Destiny the second they get her on board.

RUSH
We'll have Chloe back to normal. The odds on them ever tracking us again are virtually nil. It doesn't matter what they discover about the ship.

WRAY
Yeah, assuming they honor the deal.

RUSH
Well, they've no point in keeping her. If she begins to change again, we'll soon know it, won't we?

WRAY
Still, if I didn't know any better, it almost looks like you're willing to put the ship and the mission at risk for the sake of one individual.

[They stop walking and Rush turns to face Wray.]

RUSH
Well, that's the problem, isn't it? You don't know any better.

[Rush walks away and Wray gives a wry smile.]

INT—CORRIDOR TO SHUTTLE BAY

[Young leads Chloe along the corridor, followed by her guards. Scott is sitting the rear of the shuttle and gets up as they approach.]

SCOTT
I'll take her over there, Sir.

[Young nods and turns to walk away.]

CHLOE
Colonel?

[He stops, then she leans over and kisses him lightly on the cheek. Young looks up and makes eye contact with her for the first time.]

YOUNG
Good luck.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

[The drone sits on a table. Eli, Volker and Brody are looking at it. Brody has a flashlight in his hand.]

VOLKER
Okay, now what?

[Eli pats Volker and the shoulder and he moves aside, then Eli climbs up onto the table to inspect the top section of the drone.]

ELI
Looks like there's a catch here.

[Eli reaches for the catch.]

BRODY
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! You think that's a good idea?

ELI
If we can't open it, we can't study it.

[Eli operates the catch and, as the top section of the drone rises up, the three of them run back for cover. A crystal array appears under the top cover of the drone.]

VOLKER
Okay. Now what?

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott is in the command chair, flying the shuttle, while Chloe stands behind him.]

EXT—ALIEN SHIP IN SPACE

[The shuttle approaches the alien ship. The hangar doors open.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Looks like they're inviting us in.

EXT—ALIEN SHIP IN SPACE

[The shuttle enters the hangar of the alien ship.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott lands the shuttle inside he alien ship. He and Chloe hold hands and go to the rear door.]

CHLOE
If you would have asked me a couple of years ago where I'd be today, this would not have been one of my guesses.

SCOTT
Chloe, you were right. I let it get to me. I let it change the way I look at you.

CHLOE
No, it's not your fault.

[She takes his face in her hands.]

CHLOE
The time that I have spent on that ship, I'm not going to lie, it's been hard. But some of it has also been amazing, and that is because of you. If you hadn't been there, I don't think I would have made it this far.

SCOTT
That's not true. You're much stronger than that; you just don't know it.

[She puts her thumb on his lips to stop him speaking.]

CHLOE
This is my moment, okay? Don't contradict me.

[They kiss.]

CHLOE
I love you.

SCOTT
I love you, too.

[The rear door of the shuttle opens and there are two of the "Space" aliens standing outside. Scott nods to Chloe, and she walks slowly out of the shuttle, looking back over her shoulder as she goes. The shuttle doors close.]

INT—DESTINY RESEARCH LAB

[Brody is taking readings from a control panel in the drone, while Eli and Volker are at their computers. Rush enters.]

RUSH
Progress?

VOLKER
Ah, well, we've managed to crack the basic machine code, but the programming is incredibly complex.

BRODY
We're trying to isolate the subroutine that regulates communication with the command ship, but so far, no luck.

RUSH

(looking at a screen)

Well, this is excellent work.

[Eli looks up in surprise.]

RUSH
Well done.

VOLKER
Thank you.

RUSH
Eli and I'll take over from here. I need you two back on shield duty.

BRODY
Ah, Kemp and his team—

RUSH
Ah, they're very competent, I'm sure, but we're against the clock and I need to know my best people are on it.

VOLKER
Okay.

RUSH
Full report in an hour, understand?

BRODY
You got it.

[Somewhat shell-shocked, Volker and Brody leave.]

ELI
Wow. That was almost nice.

RUSH
Nah, they were just going to get in the way. Let's get down to some real work.

ELI
Ah.

EXT—ALIEN SHIP IN SPACE

[The ship is floating in space.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott is pacing impatiently around the shuttle.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

Destiny, this is Scott, come in. Shoot, I don't know. Maybe you're reading this. I'm in some kind of hangar bay. They could be blocking the signal. Uh, the aliens took Chloe, geez, it was only a few minutes ago, it feels like it was hours. But, I don't know, I guess there's no way of knowing how long this is going to take. I'm not leaving without her. I just, ah, I don't know. I… I just hope she's going to be okay.

INT—ALIEN SHIP MEDICAL BAY

[The two aliens put a mask on Chloe and give her an injection in the neck. She watches, terrified, as they inspect the marks on her skin then prepare an extremely large syringe, which they are about to put into her chest.]

EXT—SPACE

[A hyperspace window opens, and the second command ship appears. Dozens of drones swarm out of it.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is in the command chair, while Park, James and Telford sit at the control stations.]

PARK
The second command ship just dropped out of hyperspace. Drones are en route.

YOUNG
ETA.

PARK
Twelve minutes.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, come in.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

YOUNG

(over radio)

The second wave just dropped out. They're on their way. You have any activity on the drone?

RUSH

(into radio)

Negative. Are any of the others from the first group powering up?

INT—BRIDGE

PARK
So far, nothing.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Still dormant.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

RUSH

(into radio)

Well, that answers one question. They're not taking orders from the new command ship.

ELI
That gives me an idea. Hang on!

[He goes to another computer and starts punching things into it.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Rush, what about the plan?

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

Can we permanently disrupt their communications, or not?

INT—RESEARCH LAB

RUSH

(into radio)

Well, unfortunately, it seems like there's no way to jam the signal for any longer than a few seconds before they adapt. Not long enough in a battle situation.

INT—BRIDGE

RUSH

(over radio)

We're pursuing alternatives.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Such as?

INT—RESEARCH LAB

RUSH

(into radio)

Well, you'll be the first to know. Rush out.

INT—BRIDGE

[Young puts down the radio and goes to James' control station.]

YOUNG
Lieutenant, how much training have you had with these systems?

JAMES
As much as anyone else on the ship, Sir.

YOUNG
Which is?

JAMES
About an hour. Simulated.

YOUNG
Right. You're going to do fine. I want you to handle power distribution. Do not let any of the active emitters drop below critical. And stay on top of any sections that lose atmosphere or pressure.

JAMES
Yes, Sir.

[Her console beeps and Young points to it.]

JAMES
Oh, crap! Ah…

YOUNG

(to Telford)

David, focus your fire on the drones approaching areas where the shields are still down.

TELFORD
Copy, but they're going to clue in eventually.

YOUNG
I know.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott is still waiting in the shuttle when he hears a noise outside and the door opens. He rushes out and finds Chloe, unconscious, suspended in mid-air in a pool of bright light. As he takes her, the light goes out and she falls into his arms. He carries her into the rear of the shuttle and lays her on a bench. She no longer has alien markings on her chest.]

SCOTT
Hey, Chloe. Are you all right? You're going to be okay. I'm going to get you home.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The drones approach Destiny, firing on it. Both sides score hits.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
There's a lot of targets!

YOUNG
You've got this, David.

[Sparks shower from the ceiling and control panels.]

EXT—ALIEN SHIP IN SPACE

[The shuttle exits the hangar doors and flies out to meet the drones, exchanging fire.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Chloe is still unconscious on the bench in the rear compartment while Scott flies the shuttle. An explosion occurs just through the window.]

SCOTT

Whoa!
(into comms)

Destiny

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

This is Scott.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant, what's your status?

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

I've got Chloe; we're on our way back, but it seems like we've…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

…got a little problem here.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Yeah, you noticed that, did you?

SCOTT

(over comms)

I'll take out as many as I can.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Negative, Lieutenant. We're not here to destroy them, just to hang on long enough till we jump.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

Just keep clear of Destiny for now. They'll focus on the larger target.

SCOTT

(into comms)

No, I've got full shields, you don't. Don't worry, Sir, we'll be okay.

EXT—SHUTTLE IN SPACE

[The shuttle fires at the drones as it approaches Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
They're starting to realize where we're vulnerable. We're taking more and more fire concentrated on exposed areas.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, whatever you're going to do, you got to do it now!

INT—RESEARCH LAB

ELI
I got it. I got it! Look at this!

[Rush comes over to where Eli is working on the computer.]

ELI
Recognition software. Friend or foe. Right now, the drones that were here first are ignoring the second wave because they don't have a command ship telling them which side they're on. What if we tell them that they're the enemy? We use the same ID tag that they used for us.

RUSH
Yeah, that could work.

ELIU
The only problem is that if we want to upload the new program to the other drones—

RUSH
We'd have to power this one up first.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[Drones continue firing on Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

You want to what?!

RUSH

(over radio)

Look, there's no other way.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Look, if that thing start shooting, we're not going to be able to stop it.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

YOUNG

(over radio)

It'll tear us apart from the inside.

RUSH

(into radio)

I don't think that's going to happen.

INT—BRIDGE

[Young switches channels on his radio.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Sergeant Greer, I need a security team in the lab where they're working on the drone, now.

GREER

(over radio)

Roger that.

[One of the control panels beeps.]

PARK
We've got a new problem. The alien ship just jumped to hyperspace.

YOUNG
Good for them.

PARK
No, but the drones that were attacking them, they're heading our way.

TELFORD
That's too many, we can't hold them all off at once.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, how long until that program is ready?

INT—RESEARCH LAB

RUSH

(into radio)

Give us five minutes.

INT—BRIDGE

[Park shakes her head at Young. There are multiple explosions on the bridge.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

We don't have five minutes.

[More explosions and sparks occur throughout the bridge.]

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The shuttle is engaging the drones that are attacking the ship, then comes to face another large wave of drones swarming towards the ship.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Ah, Destiny, I'm not sure you're seeing this, but…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

…you've got a whole bunch more of those drones coming your way.

YOUNG

(into comms)

We're tracking them. I want you out of there.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Sir—

YOUNG

(into comms)

I just gave you a direct order, Lieutenant.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

Break off, now!

SCOTT

(into comms)

Yes, Sir.

INT—DESTINY RESEARCH LAB

[Greer and two other marines enter and take up positions, weapons at the ready, around the drone.]

RUSH
What are you doing here?

GREER
Colonel's orders.

RUSH
So, what? If we manage to power up this drone and it starts opening fire, you think there's anything you can do to stop it?

GREER
I'm sure as hell going to try.

[Rush shakes his head in disbelief and continues work.]

INT—BRIDGE

JAMES
I'm getting damage reports from all over the ship. Multiple secondary explosions.

YOUNG

(into radio)
Rush, you're out of time.
(shouting)

Rush!

TELFORD
Something's happening. The drones are veering off.

PARK
Sir! It's the seed ship.

EXT—SEED SHIP IN SPACE

[The seed ship is flying towards the command ship. Numerous drones veer away from Destiny' and follow it, firing.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

PARK
The Ursini are making a run for the command ship.

TELFORD
They don't have the firepower or shields to get through.

YOUNG
I thought they were going to wait it out.

PARK
Sir, we're getting a message.

TELFORD
Patch it through to me.

[Telford reads he message on his console.]

TELFORD
It says they're sorry for getting us into this. It's a suicide run.

[Park's screen shows the seed ship surrounded by drones. The seed ship's signal flickers then goes out.]

PARK

(sadly)

They're gone.

[Telford looks upset.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, you have just been given a window. Let's get it closed fast. Activate the damn program.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

[Rush powers up the drone. It rises a little off the table. Greer and the other marines prepare to fire.]

RUSH
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold your fire, hold your fire.

[Greer raises his hand to signal to the other marines to wait.]

RUSH
Eli, upload the program.

[Eli operates his computer.]

EXT—SPACE

[The original, dormant drones activate and start attacking the second wave drones.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Destiny, this is Scott. Whatever you guys did, it worked. Those drones are firing on each other.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

I should be able to dock now.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Just make it quick, Lieutenant.

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[Volker and Brody are working at the relay.]

BRODY
Okay, do you think you're good? Are we good?!

VOLKER
Yeah, we're good.

BRODY

(into radio)

Um, bridge, this is Brody. We're ready with our last bypass.

INT—BRIDGE

BRODY

(over radio)

You can power it up.

YOUNG
Let's do it.

[James activates the shield.]

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[Brody and Volker take a step back as the relay powers up.]

BRODY

(into radio)

Looks like it's holding.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG
Status.

JAMES
Shields are now covering the whole ship, but they're only at five percent power. We've just taken too many hits.

YOUNG
Well, what's minimum safe?

PARK
We've never jumped at less that ten percent.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, this is Young.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

YOUNG

(over radio)

We're ready here but we have a small problem. Shields are holding at five percent.

ELI
That's not enough. We're talking about FTL here. One small weak spot, and the entire ship gets ripped apart!

RUSH

(both to Eli and into radio)

We don't have a choice. Even if the program holds, and there's no guarantee that it will, the first wave's seriously outnumbered. They'll be massacred in a matter of minutes, and we're right back where we started.

INT—BRIDGE

RUSH

(over radio)

We have to take the risk.

SCOTT

(over comms)

This is Scott. The shuttle is docked.

YOUNG
Let's go for it.

[Park operates her controls.]

PARK

(counting down slowly as the FTL drive activates)

FTL in three… two… one.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The ship jumps into FTL.]

INT—BRIDGE

[The ship is shuddering violently.]

INT—SHIELD EMITTER RELAY

[The ship is shuddering violently.]

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

INT—RESEARCH LAB

[The ship is shuddering violently.]

INT—BRIDGE

[The shuddering subsides.]

PARK

Shields seem to be holding.
(relieved)

I think we're going to be okay.

INT—RESEARCH LAB

GREER

(gesturing to the drone)

You might want to shut this thing down now.

ELI
Oh! Right, yeah, good idea.

[Eli shuts down the drone from his computer. Rush breathes a sigh of relief.]

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

INT—INFIRMARY

[Young enters. Chloe is in a bed awake, TJ is tending her and Scott is sitting at her feet.]

YOUNG
How's the patient?

TJ
So far, blood work is normal, lesions are gone and no more blackouts. As far as I can tell, she's cured.

YOUNG
Well, I'm glad to hear it. But just in case—

CHLOE
I know. You want to keep me under observation for a while. It's okay, I understand.

YOUNG
Well, it's good to have you back.

SCOTT

(taking Chloe's hand)

Hey, I'll, uh, I'll come see you as soon as I can. Okay?

CHLOE
Okay.

[Young, Scott and TJ walk away. Rush enters the infirmary.]

YOUNG
Hey, how's that damage report coming?

RUSH
I'll arrange a briefing when we're ready, but it's not going to be pretty.

[Young and Scott leave as Rush comes over to Chloe's bed and sits down.]

RUSH
Hey. You wanted to see me.

CHLOE

(sitting up)

Yeah. Matt told me it was your idea to send me over there.

RUSH
Yeah. I'm sorry you had to go through that. There was no other way.

CHLOE
No, I wanted to thank you. You saved my life. Again.

RUSH
Well, you saved all of ours. It was the least I could do.

CHLOE
They're never going to give up. You know that, right?

[Rush nods.]

CHLOE
Whatever information they got from me, it's just going to make them want the ship even more.

RUSH
Yeah, I know.

CHLOE
Before Matt came in…

[Chloe produces a notebook.]

CHLOE
…I was working on some equations just to see if I could still do it.

[She hands the notebook to Rush, who flicks to the last page. He examines the equations for a moment then looks up at Chloe.]

RUSH
They're perfect.

CHLOE
But I'm supposed to be back to normal.

RUSH
Obviously, they haven't, uh, wiped your memory. You managed to retain some of the knowledge you gained. I should think that's a good thing.

CHLOE
Because I can still be useful.

RUSH
Everyone on his ship is useful. Not just those that are capable of FTL calculations. We all belong here.

CHLOE
You really believe that?

RUSH
More and more every day. If Colonel Young hadn't left me on that planet to be found by those aliens, if they hadn't taken you, and you hadn't been put through that transformation, well, it's more than likely we wouldn't have survived this attack.

CHLOE
So, everything happens for a reason.

RUSH
Yeah, well, if you'd have said that to me a couple of years ago, I'd have dismissed it as superstition. Classic weak-minded response to the overwhelming complexity of the universe.

CHLOE
And now?

RUSH
Well, let's just say you're not the only one that's gone through some changes. You should get some rest.

CHLOE
Yeah.

[Chloe lies back down and closes her eyes. Rush takes another look at the notebook, then back at Chloe.]
