PREVIOUSLY ON STARGATE UNIVERSE

[Scenes from the first half of Season One are shown.]

TEASER

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young stares at himself in the mirror as he shaves. With discomfort, he remembers beating up Rush and stranding him on the desert planet.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Young sits on a bed while TJ checks his pupil response.]

TJ
No headaches? Ah, any blurry vision?

YOUNG
I'm fine.

TJ
You sleeping okay?

YOUNG
TJ, I'm good. I gotta go.

[He starts to leave.]

TJ
Sir…you lost someone under your command.

YOUNG
Most recently, three people: Gorman, Spencer, and Rush. It happens.

TJ
Well, I know how much it affects you.

YOUNG
In different ways, I let them down.

TJ
So, if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here.

YOUNG
I don't.

TJ
You should.

YOUNG
I'm sorry?

TJ
Like you said, you felt like you let Sgt. Spencer down. We all do. And there's been a lot going on between you and Rush.

YOUNG
What are you saying?

TJ
That emotionally, a lot has been left unresolved.

YOUNG
Another time.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Young leaves the room only to encounter Wray walking past.]

WRAY
Colonel…off to, uh, file your latest report back to Earth?

YOUNG
That's right.

WRAY
I'm curious about the…details you intend to provide regarding the incident with…Dr. Rush.

YOUNG
Exactly what happened.

WRAY
I'm…scheduled to file my report with Earth later today, and it may cast some doubt on your version of events.

YOUNG
There were only two people on that planet: me and Rush.

WRAY
I'm talking about the obvious issues between the two of you.

YOUNG
That doesn't change anything. Listen, if you want to accuse me, you should have the guts to come right out and accuse me.

WRAY
I don't have proof of anything.

YOUNG
I think you just want to be in charge again.

WRAY
I'm saying you had plenty of motive.

YOUNG
Really? Do you think that I want people on this ship suspecting me of murder?

WRAY
Maybe that burden's easier to bear than actually dealing with Rush.

YOUNG
Well, I'll admit it, I don't miss the man.

[Young walks off. Wray notices that TJ has overheard the entire conversation while she's been repacking her medical bag.]

INT—CORRIDOR JUNCTION

[Scott, Greer, and Caine are waiting.]

GREER
I say we're all better off.

CAINE

Oh, well, that's reassuring. So if you don't measure up, you just get left for dead? What-what exactly is the criteria then for sticking around?
(to Scott)

Do you agree?

[Young enters.]

YOUNG
All right. Let's do this.

INT—DESTINY STONE LAB

[While the others get set up for Young's report, Greer checks the kino connection, looking directly at the camera.]

GREER
All good?

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli monitors the lab, having a speaker connection to the stone lab.]

ELI
All good.

[TJ and James approach.]

TJ
Hey, Eli. Hey, when you get a chance, can you check the shower system? The pressure's been kind of low.

ELI
Sure, once I'm done here.

[James grins at the footage and turns to TJ.]

JAMES
Dr. Caine's pretty cute, huh? There is nothing sexier than a widower.

ELI
Uh…

[Eli awkwardly looks from the kino to the women. James continues, oblivious to Eli's half-hearted attempt to interrupt.]

JAMES
A man who's proven that he can make a commitment, and is single through no fault of his own. I mean, what more could you ask for?

INT—STONE ROOM

CAINE
I can hear you.

[Scott stifles a laugh.]

INT—KINO ROOM

JAMES

(mortified)

Uh…I-I…I'm so sorry.

[TJ stifles her own chuckle.]

CAINE

(over speaker)

How about we just, uh, carry on like nothing happened?

JAMES

(weakly)

Okay. Thank you.

[Eli and TJ burst out laughing as James walks away.]

JAMES
God. Kill me now.

[TJ puts her hands on James's shoulders and heads out with her.]

INT—DESTINY STONE ROOM

CAINE
All right. I think we're ready.

[Young places his stone on the transmitter and closes his eyes.]

INT—ALIEN SPACECRAFT

[Young opens his eyes to find himself in a strange black spacesuit on a foreign ship. He starts to walk around. Nearby a circular platform lifts out of the floor; a blue bipedal alien steps off, looks at him, and wanders down a different corridor. Young stares, nonplussed.]

END TEASER

OPENING CREDITS

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli watches the kino footage of the stone lab.]

SCOTT
Welcome aboard Destiny. I'm Lt. Matthew Scott.

INT—DESTINY STONE LAB

[The blue alien possessing Young's body looks around, confused. His viewpoint is tinged blue as he sees Caine smile and give a tentative wave, then looks to the armed Scott and Greer.]

GREER
You okay?

CAINE
Ex-excuse me. Who are you?

[The alien, in Young's body, attacks Scott, starting to choke him. Greer tries to intervene, but the alien knocks him back with one arm.]

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli watches in horror at the scuffle between the various men.]

ELI
Whoa! Whoa!

INT—DESTINY STONE LAB

[Greer is able to pull Alien/Young off of Scott. While Greer and the Alien now struggle, Caine takes a cloth and pulls the stone off the transmitter, throwing it back in the case. Young, now back in his body, stares up at Greer holding him down.]

YOUNG
Sergeant, what happened?

GREER

(calmly)

I have absolutely no idea, sir.

[He releases Young.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ checks out Young while the others from the lab watch.]

SCOTT
What do you think?

CAINE
Uh…I'm an IT tech. You know, I fix Earth computers, not Ancient communication devices.

ELI
Malfunction in the connection?

SCOTT
That's quite a hiccup.

YOUNG
I've seen worse.

TJ
We don't exactly know what these stones do, do we?

CAINE
Well, no, not personally. I-I just got put on stone duty 'cause Riley's not back on his feet yet.

TJ
You know, sir, you have been under quite a bit of stress.

YOUNG
Oh, you're not suggesting that I imagined it?

TJ
No.

SCOTT
Whoever took over your body was acting kinda strangely.

YOUNG
Look, there was no way that I hallucinated that ship or that alien. My imagination isn't that good. I was on a ship. And I saw an alien. Now, I want to know exactly what happened, what went wrong, and why. And until then, the communications room and that device are off limits. Understood?

[They all nod. Young leaves.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young struggles to darn a sock. Wray knocks on his open door and enters.]

WRAY
You got a minute?

YOUNG
Please, sit. You know, I always figured that limited resources meant that every day would be a struggle for survival, but I never thought it would come to this.

WRAY
Is that supposed to be some sort of hint?

YOUNG
Yeah, it's a hint. If you're wondering what to get me for Christmas, I need socks.

WRAY
I heard about today's "incident".

YOUNG
Caine's looking into it.

WRAY
You know, I find it interesting that the device just happens to malfunction moments after we had our conversation this morning.

YOUNG
I guess it's kind of coincidental.

WRAY
That's one word. Another is "convenient".

YOUNG
And another is "surprising". Okay, your turn.

WRAY
You actually think that…this will keep me from filing my report back to Earth.

YOUNG

(with dry chuckle)

Actually, yeah. No, no, I'm pretty sure it will.

WRAY

(leaning forward)

When the time comes, let's hope that those who sit in judgment of you grant the mercy you denied Dr. Rush.

YOUNG

(coldly)

I believe you mean "allegedly" denied Dr. Rush. Communications with Earth will resume as soon as I am completely satisfied that the next attempt to connect will not result in another coincidence, or a convenience, or a surprise.

[Wray leaves. Young slams the control to close his door.]

INT—DESTINY MESS HALL

[Chloe smiles at getting her portion of some small tomatoes from Becker.]

CHLOE
Thank you.

[She joins Eli at a table.]

CHLOE

(ecstatic)

We have tomatoes! We finally have tomatoes!

ELI

(unenthusiastic)

More or less.

[She blissfully takes a bite. Eli watches as she chews, her expression changing to one of puzzlement, and slight distaste.]

CHLOE
Wow, that's odd.

[Eli nods.]

CHLOE
So, I was talking to Dr. Inman, and she said the hydroponics team will have strawberries for us in about a month.

ELI
Sort of strawberries. Talk to me when they can finally start growing meat.

CHLOE
Well, actually, I hear they're working on a soy-based protein.

ELI

(in sarcastic, exaggerated Southern accent)

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Enjoy your tofurkey!

CHLOE
You're in a bad mood. What's the matter?

ELI
I haven't slept much. Col. Young has me working around the clock trying to figure out everything that Rush was working on.

RICHMOND
You can't be serious.

[They turn to where a woman is talking with Volker at another table.]

RICHMOND
Colonel Young was willing to sacrifice his own life so that one of us could have a shot at getting on the shuttle when the ship was heading towards that star. You think he's a cold-blooded murderer?

VOLKER
I wasn't saying that. I was…

RICHMOND
It-it's fine.

[She walks off. Scott, oblivious, approaches Chloe and Eli's table and sits next to Chloe.]

SCOTT
Can you believe it? Tomatoes!

[Eli and Chloe exchange knowing looks while he takes a bite. He catches their expression.]

SCOTT
What?

INT—HYDROPONICS BAY

[Wray speaks to Volker, Park, Brody, and other civilians.]

WRAY
…and from the second we got on this ship, they've been the ones calling all the shots. What we eat, where we sleep, what we do and when. And we just sit back and let them.

VOLKER
Yeah, they're the ones with the guns.

WRAY
Yeah, I mean, we have every right to be afraid.

[Wray sighs.]

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli watches Wray's comments from a kino hiding in a vent.]

WRAY
Look at what happened to the last person to challenge them.

VOLKER
So…what do you think we should do?

WRAY
I don't know…

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops into normal space.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[The 'gate is active. Young, Scott, Brody, and Greer are studying the kino video footage from a planet.]

SCOTT
Purple plants? Are you kidding me?

BRODY
Well, purple chlorophyll is sensitive to red and infrared light. Planet's probably orbiting a red-dwarf.

YOUNG
Well, the kino says breathable atmosphere. Water and oxygen.

BRODY
I'm concerned about potential stellar flare activity. Spot radiation.

YOUNG
All right, then. We'll suit up.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[James comes racing up to them.]

JAMES
Sirs! You've got to see this. It just showed up.

[They run after her to look out a floor-to-ceiling porthole of the ship. Just outside is an alien vessel.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Young and Scott enter. Eli is already there.]

YOUNG
Eli?

ELI
Bringing it up…now.

[They study the vessel on the screen with schematics scrolling alongside.]

ELI

(under his breath)
Whoa.
(to others)

What is it doing?

SCOTT
Nothing. Yet. It's just sitting there.

ELI
Maybe we should try communicating with it?

YOUNG
How?

ELI
Uh, well, we have broadcast capability. Of course, there's no way in hell they'd understand us.

YOUNG
Eli…

ELI
But I guess there's only one way to find out.

[He starts pressing buttons.]

SCOTT
Two alien encounters in a day. What are the chances?

YOUNG
I'm thinking likely…zero.

ELI
Okay, sending…now. Let's hope they speak Ancient.

YOUNG
There is no way this is a coincidence. I bet you I was on that ship this morning.

SCOTT
You figure you piqued their curiosity? They came here to check on us?

YOUNG
I'm thinking they've been checking on us for a while. There's no way they could find us this fast.

ELI
They…answered back.

[Young and Scott join Eli at the console.]

ELI

(nervous)

That's not a translation.

[The screen reads "SURRENDER" in a red box.]

YOUNG
They answered in English.

SCOTT
I mean, how the hell is that possible?

ELI

(shrugging)

I…

YOUNG
What did you say?

ELI
"Hello. W-we're peaceful humans from planet Earth. We mean you no harm, and we'd like to meet you." What do I do? Wh-what do I say back?

YOUNG
Nothing.

ELI
Nothing?

YOUNG

Nothing. Get our weapons online.
(into radio)
This is Colonel Young. All personnel, report to designated areas.
(to Scott)

Lieutenant, I need you and Greer in that shuttle.

SCOTT

(heading out)

Yes, sir.

INT—DESTINY BALCONY

[Several of the crew have gathered on the balcony, staring at the ship. Volker looks through a rudimentary telescope.]

VOLKER
Something's happening.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody enters and heads to a console.]

ELI
I-I think they're launching smaller ships.

INT—DESTINY BALCONY

[Several small vessels can be seen coming out of the alien ship.]

PARK
Oh, my god.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI
Uh…only 30% of the weapons are coming online.

BRODY
Rush put limits on how many could be activated at once.

ELI
Right, right, after what happened to Riley. We were still in the process of checking each gun's functionality.

YOUNG
Well, find a way around it, Eli.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Greer and Scott enter and go through the startup procedure. Scott, glances at the procedural manual for a moment.]

SCOTT
Disengaging.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle lifts off from Destiny.]

INT—BALCONY

[Everyone watches nervously as the shuttle goes out to meet the approaching ships.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG
Eli, come on.

ELI

(panicked)

Hey, hey, first real space battle over here!

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott and Greer exchange looks. Greer has a cocky smile as he hits the fire button the shuttle. The shuttle's weapons hit the small alien ship, breaking it apart.]

SCOTT
You got it? You got it?

GREER
Just about.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle hits another, but three more alien ships get through its guard.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The large display shows a planview of the battle and all the ships involved.]

YOUNG
Eli. Activate the forward battery.

ELI

(muttering)

That's what I'm trying to do!

INT—DESTINY BALCONY

[The crowd watches in fear as the ships get closer and closer. James takes control, pulling people away from the railing, trying to herd them into the corridor.]

JAMES
Come on, get back. Let's go!

INT—CONTROL ROOM

BRODY
We're taking heavy fire.

YOUNG
Can you boost power to the shields?

BRODY
I'm workin' on it.

[Brody moves to another console.]

ELI
Shield power is being drained by the weapons.

INT—CORRIDOR

[A guard and another person are in the corridor as a power surge arcs through the area. The guard falls, electrocuted by the arc. The woman is also hit by an arc and falls.]

INT—DESTINY BALCONY

[James herds the last of the people out. She hears the arcing also.]

JAMES
Come, move, go.

INT—CORRIDOR

[James and Volker go to check out the corridor. James spots the two fallen people and the arced circuit bouncing around the corridor.]

JAMES
Stay back.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI
We've got surges happening all over the ship. The weapons system wasn't ready for this.

YOUNG
Eli, everyone on board this ship is counting on you.

ELI

(stressed)

I don't need to hear that.

YOUNG
You can do this.

ELI
No. No, I can't.

YOUNG
Yes, you can.

ELI
Why is this all on me, okay? What about him?

[He points to Brody.]

YOUNG
I don't care. Both of you. I need this ship working now!

ELI

(still working)

You should've thought of that before you got rid of Rush.

YOUNG
Just fix it.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle and the small alien ships are engaged in a full firefight. Destiny fires on even more vessels.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[TJ and another medic arrive, but the corridor is too hot for her to approach the injured. James takes a chance and runs across the corridor, missing the random electrical arcs. She reaches the power conduit and shuts down the area. TJ is able to cross safely. James takes control of the evacuation again.]

JAMES
You guys okay?

VOLKER
Yeah.

TJ

(pointing to injured woman)

Check her.

JAMES
Okay.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe hears something just outside. She looks out a nearby porthole and spots one smaller ship landing on Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Chloe steps out into the corridor. A guard, Dunning, signals her to stay back and has a weapon and flashlight ready. There is a circular hole being cut through the corridor ceiling. The several inches of bulkhead falls to the floor in one large piece. Chloe approaches and stares up at the light. She hears an alien chittering.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG
They're pulling back.

EXT—SPACE

[The alien ship that landed on Destiny lifts off.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Dunning is barely able to hold onto the wall as the hole is now open and allowing air to escape into space. Destiny's shield reengages and repressurizes the section. Dunning struggles to his feet and looks around.]

DUNNING
Colonel Young, this is Airman Dunning. Please respond.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
They're retreating.

GREER
We got 'em on the run. Let's give 'em something to remember us by.

[Scott nods.]

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle continues to chase the retreating alien ships.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli and Young exchange looks.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Lieutenant, I need you to end pursuit and fall back to Destiny.

[The conversation continues to switch between the control room and shuttle.]

SCOTT
But, sir…!

YOUNG
Do not engage. I repeat. Do not engage. Chloe may be on board one of those ships.

[Greer and Scott look stricken.]

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle breaks off pursuit.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE SHUTTLE

[Greer and Scott storm out. Young is there to meet them.]

SCOTT
What the hell happened?

YOUNG
Easy, Lieutenant. It was nobody's fault. We were not ready for this.

GREER
They gave up pretty quickly.

YOUNG
Well, the attack may have been a distraction to try to come in close and take prisoners. Try to gain intel.

SCOTT
Why are we the enemy?

YOUNG
I don't know.

SCOTT
Sir, that ship is still within shuttle range. Request permission to take—

YOUNG
Permission denied.

SCOTT
Colonel!

YOUNG
You wouldn't stand a chance. With me.

[They start walking down the corridor.]

GREER
What are we going to do?

YOUNG
I'm going after her.

GREER
How?

YOUNG
Communication device.

SCOTT
Sir, you are only assuming that's the same ship that you were on…

YOUNG

(cutting him off)

Guess I'll find out when I'm on-board.

EXT—ALIEN SHIP

[The vessel floats in space.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Chloe awakens to find herself in a chamber filled with water. She wears a breathing mask and has a small device attached to her forehead near her eyebrow. She pounds on the glass wall of the chamber, afraid. A bipedal alien approaches and looks at her, then leans forward aggressively. Chloe panics and flails against the walls where she floats.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[The room is in chaos as TJ tries to triage the several wounded. Various crew try and assist.]

TJ

(to injured lady)

Let's elevate this. Have a seat over there, and I'll get to you as soon as I can, okay? Thanks so much.

[Wray enters.]

WRAY
Anything I can do?

TJ
Take your pick. Grab some gauze.

[Wray grabs some equipment. TJ scolds a patient.]

TJ
Don't touch, don't touch, don't touch.

WRAY
Chloe was taken.

[James comes over from where she was working on another injured crew.]

JAMES
What?! How?

WRAY
One of the ships latched on, cut a hole.

PARK

(from where she's treating someone else)

I can't get a pulse over here!

TJ

(to Park)
Grab the bag!
(to Wray)

Keep the pressure on him, please.

[Wray takes over the patient TJ was treating as TJ rushes over to Park's patient, the woman who was electrocuted, and begins CPR. James tries to treat Caine, who's forehead is injured. Scott enters.]

SCOTT
Caine…

CAINE
Yeah.

SCOTT
Caine, we need you.

JAMES

(finishing her check of his injury)

It's not bad.

CAINE
Okay.

[He leaves with Scott.]

INT—DESTINY STONE ROOM

[Greer straps Young down in the chair.]

YOUNG
Okay, that's good.

[Greer checks another strap.]

YOUNG
Tighter.

SCOTT
Sir…Sir! Let me do it.

YOUNG
Lieutenant, it's not going to happen.

CAINE
For the record, I think this is a very bad idea.

YOUNG
Yes, but it's the best of the bad ideas.

[Caine turns on the device.]

CAINE
Go.

INT—KINO CONTROL ROOM

[Eli enters. Brody has been monitoring.]

ELI
I think I got most of the weapons back online. How long is he going in for?

[Eli and Brody switch places.]

BRODY
Twenty minutes. Then we pull him out.

ELI
Okay.

INT—DESTINY STONE LAB

CAINE
Colonel, you can always go back in if you don't find her.

YOUNG
Okay.

[With his partially immobilized hand, he places the stone on the console.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Young finds himself back in the black outfit. He has traded places with the alien. He wanders around the ship. ]

INT—DESTINY STONE LAB

[The alien, possessing Young's body, struggles against his restraints. From the kino lab, Brody and Eli watch.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[At one area, Young sees several aliens operating some equipment. One alien turns and spots him. It chitters something in unintelligible alien tongue. When Young/Alien doesn't respond, it loses interest in him and goes back to work. Young/Alien walks away.]

INT—DESTINY KINO LAB

[The alien continues to panic and struggle while in Young's body.]

SCOTT
We are not your enemy. We mean you no harm.

CAINE
I don't think it understands you.

GREER
Th-they spoke English.

CAINE
They sent a one-word message. For all we know, they have a translation device on their ship or something.

SCOTT
Then they would've sent it in Ancient. Why did you attack us?

[The alien roars incoherently.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Young approaches a water chamber. A human-figure is inside, but the window of the chamber is fogged over and he can't see it clearly. He approaches and wipes away the condensation. The figure is Rush, floating with eyes closed. Young moves to some controls, managing to get the outer door closed. He tries to work some other controls to no effect. He pulls a pipe loose and starts banging it against the chamber. Rush awakens, confused. The glass breaks and Rush and all the water spill out.]

INT—DESTINY KINO LAB

SCOTT
Why did you take one of our people prisoner?

[The alien, as Young, continues to struggle.]

INT—ALIEN LAB

[Rush sees the "alien" in the room and, still sitting on the floor, scrambles back until he hits the wall. Young/the alien stays back, holding up its/his hands in a peaceful gesture.]

RUSH
Why did you do that? You want to help me?

[Young/Alien stares, uncertain. Rush slowly reaches up and pulls a device off the console. He pulls off the device on his own brow and slowly approaches the "alien".]

RUSH
This is how you read my mind. Do you understand? This one transmits. This one receives.

[He shows the two devices to Young. Young takes the transmitter.]

RUSH
Like this. Here. Like this. Yeah.

[Young/the alien puts on the transmitter and Rush the receiver. They both scream in pain at the connection, collapsing on the floor. Rush recovers but Young stays writhing on the floor as if the device is not compatible with his brain.]

[Rush sees Young in the alien suit and with the stone. He sees Young in the control room telling Scott not to engage, Chloe may be aboard, and finally sees Young back on board the alien ship.]

RUSH
Colonel Young!

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Young is back in his body.]

YOUNG
What happened?

CAINE
He's back.

YOUNG
What just happened?

SCOTT
The alien ship is closing in on us.

INT—ALIEN LAB

[The alien stares, confused. Rush is still receiving information. Through the connection, he sees aliens working, various consoles, and Chloe trapped in a chamber like his. He opens his eyes to see the alien getting to its feet and moving to attack. Rush counters and chokes the alien, knocking it to the floor.]

INT—DESTINY KINO ROOM

YOUNG
Send me back.

CAINE

(working)

Uh.

YOUNG
Send me back, now!

INT—ALIEN LAB

[Rush chokes the more spindly alien to death.]

INT—DESTINY KINO ROOM

CAINE
Okay. Good to go.

YOUNG
Ready.

[He places the stone on the console, but nothing happens.]

YOUNG
It's not working. Why isn't it working?

[Destiny takes fire, sparks flying in the room.]

YOUNG
Untie me.

INT—ALIEN LAB

[Rush grabs the pipe and pulls the receiver off his head, running out of the room.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Brody and Eli rush through sparking corridors back to the control room.]

INT—DESTINY KINO ROOM

CAINE
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the device.

SCOTT
Did you find Chloe?

[Young shakes his head.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI
Uh, guys? You may have noticed they're attacking us again.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young and Scott jog through the sparking corridors.]

[The conversation switches between Young and Eli's locations.]

YOUNG
Eli?

ELI
Our shields aren't going to hold for much longer.

YOUNG
Bring the main weapon online. Fire on the big ship.

SCOTT
Chloe is still on board that ship!

YOUNG
Do it now, Eli! Return fire. Everything we've got.

[Young continues on as Scott and Greer stop, stunned.]

EXT—SPACE

[A large gun emerges from the belly of Destiny, aiming at the alien vessel.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP CORRIDOR

[Rush heads with purpose through corridors. He opens a door and entering the lab where Chloe is kept, unconscious, in her own water chamber. The ship shakes with the impact of a blast.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny's largest weapon continues to fire at the ship.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

BRODY
We can't keep this up. The whole weapons system is overloading. Shields are down almost fifty percent.

ELI
I know.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Scott and Greer race down a corridor.]

GREER
Where are you going?

SCOTT
To try and save Chloe.

INT—ALIEN LAB

[Chloe opens her eyes, frightened and confused.]

RUSH
It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. We have to go. Here.

[He helps her up and they start moving. Another blast shakes the alien ship.]

CHLOE
Uh!

[They pause making sure the coast is clear.]

CHLOE
Oh, god. Where are we going?

RUSH
This way.

[He leads her down a corridor.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young joins Eli and Brody in the room.]

YOUNG
Report!

ELI
Bad and more bad.

BRODY
Too much power is going to the weapons. Our shields are going to fail.

YOUNG
Bolster the shield. Devote all remaining weapons power to the main weapon. Keep firing on the big ship.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Greer and Scott run into the shuttle and start powering it up.]

GREER
Not like you, taking the shuttle without asking.

SCOTT

He'll say no, and I don't want to disobey an order…
(challenging)

You gotta problem with that?

GREER
You want to save her, do it.

SCOTT

(earnest)

I'm going. You don't have to.

GREER
I'm already here.

[Scott bites his lip.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

BRODY
They're retreating.

YOUNG
Keep firing!

ELI
We fire again, and we risk blowing ourselves up.

YOUNG
I don't have a choice. Do it.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(puzzled)

They're…they're retreating.

GREER
All of them except that one.

[They watch as a shuttle starts to land. With a glance at each other, they unbuckle from the still-docked shuttle and head out.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

BRODY
Wait.

EXT—SPACE

[The alien vessel jumps into hyperspace.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

ELI
They're gone.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Scott and Greer head down a corridor where they hear a noise. They see a circular hole burning through the ceiling. They take cover nearby, weapons ready. Chloe half-leaps/half-falls through the hole. She spies Scott.]

CHLOE
Matt!

[They embrace. Rush is the next to drop through the hole. Greer is still holding his pistol at ready.]

GREER
Colonel Young said you were dead.

RUSH

(breathless)

Oh, did he? Did he say how it happened?

GREER
Rock slide.

RUSH
Well, obviously he was wrong again.

[He waves away the pistol, and Greer complies. He glances at Scott and Chloe's reunion, still ongoing, then punches his radio.]

GREER

(into radio)

Colonel Young, this is Greer. Come in.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Young glances at the counting down clock.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead.

GREER

(over radio)

You are not going to believe this.

[Young looks worried.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light]

INT—DESTINY MESS HALL

[Rush sits at a table, eating hungrily. Chloe, Eli, Brody, and Volker sit at the table with him.]

RUSH
I managed to, uh, activate the…systems on the crashed ship. Found a database. I'd only just begun to look through it when the aliens showed up. I guess I must've accidentally activated some kind of distress beacon. Anyway, I'm glad I did. I would've died out there.

BRODY
Oh, well, there are a few people who thought Col. Young left you to die on purpose.

RUSH

(with wry smile)

I imagine there were. No, no. He would've rightly assumed that I was gone…in the rock slide.

[Eli looks at Chloe with a skeptical expression.]

ELI
So, what happened when the aliens brought you on their ship?

RUSH

To be honest? I don't remember that much. The few times I was conscious they were…probing my mind.
(more quietly)
That's something I'd rather not think about, really.
(normal tone)

I know they were frustrated. I seemed to be able to resist giving them the information they wanted.

CHLOE
He used their own neural interface against them, getting what he needed so we could escape.

[Chloe looks on gratefully as Eli stares at her in surprise.]

RUSH
Location of their fighter bay. Basic operating systems.

ELI
Anything else? Like, why they wanted to destroy us?

RUSH
I don't think they did want to destroy us. What they really want is Destiny. Probably only care about us because we…recently came aboard. No, what they want is a way past her defenses. Try and find out what secrets she might hold. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to find out any more. My first priority was getting Chloe and I off the ship.

[Chloe and Rush exchange smiles.]

VOLKER
Well, it's good to have you back.

ELI

(warily)

Both of you.

RUSH

(nodding)

Hmm.

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[There is a knock at the door. Young goes and opens it.]

RUSH
So…

YOUNG
So.

[Young gestures him to enter, then closes the door. Rush pauses at the mirror Young used to shave in and studies his own reflection.]

RUSH
I suppose you're wondering why I didn't tell everyone the truth.

YOUNG
It's your word against mine. I didn't tell anyone you tried to frame me for Spencer's death.

RUSH
Well, that's true. No, I-I just wanted to know whether I can assume that you are going to try and kill me again next chance you get.

YOUNG
I saved you from those aliens.

RUSH
You fired on the alien ship while I was still aboard.

YOUNG
So was Chloe. That was a command decision, protecting the greater good.

RUSH
Yes, indeed. Look, I realize…that I did provoke you.

YOUNG
Well, if it means anything, I, uh, regret leaving you on that planet. Don't get me wrong. I-I think you deserved it. But I regret that I lost control—that I became a man that I couldn't respect anymore.

RUSH
well, you're here, I'm here. We just have to live with it, don't we?

YOUNG
Well, so does everyone else on board. They don't need the distraction. They don't need to doubt their leadership. And this ship needs to be ready for the next encounter.

[Rush nods.]

YOUNG
If we haven't found a way home by then.

RUSH

(chuckling softly)

Of course.

YOUNG
So, what? We just pretend nothing happened?

RUSH
Well, it's not like we were ever friends.

[Young nods and joins him at the door.]

YOUNG
For the sake of the crew.

RUSH
For the sake of the crew.

[Young lets him out.]

INT—DESTINY BALCONY

[TJ sits working on her laptop. Caine enters with a thermos and a cup.]

CAINE
Hey there.

TJ
Hi!

CAINE
You mind?

TJ
No, it's okay.

[Caine sighs and sets his stuff on the table, pouring a glass.]

CAINE
You want to try some?

TJ
What is it?

CAINE
It's a little something that Dr. Inman's been working on. She claims it tastes like gin. I say it's a little closer to rubbing alcohol.

TJ

(laughing)

Solid sales pitch. Um, no, thank you.

CAINE
All right.

TJ

(smiling)

So, uh, what do you think? You and James? Any…any chance there?

CAINE

(shaking his head)

It-it could just get really awkward. You know, if things didn't work out. I mean, being stuck on this ship with someone you've had a bad relationship with? No, thanks. It's probably best to just keep things professional for as long as we can.

[While Caine has been speaking, Young has entered. He hears Caine speaking. TJ's face falls and she nods uncomfortably in agreement, biting her lip.]

CAINE

(continuing)

I mean, we'll see. If we're here much longer, I hereby reserve the right to completely change my mind.

[TJ laughs. Young leaves without either realizing he was there.]

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe lies awake, staring into space. Scott is fast asleep, curled up behind her.]

INT—JAMES'S QUARTERS

[James cries alone in her quarters.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody works on some cables then moves to a console. Rush works on another console.]

INT—KINO ROOM

[A tired Eli runs the kinos around while Young watches over his shoulder.]

INT—GREER'S QUARTERS

[Greer smiles at a photo he pulls out of his kit.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ checks the casualties resting comfortably around the room.]

INT—BALCONY

[Alone, Caine drinks the moonshine and stares at the aurora effect.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young finishes darning his sock and lies back to sleep.]

INT—HYDROPONICS BAY

[Wray and Rush are together in the bay.]

RUSH
The Colonel's dangerous.

WRAY
We need to do something about that.

RUSH
I tried.

WRAY
I know.

RUSH
Damn near killed me for it.

WRAY
Next time will be different.

FADE OUT
