Earth Mythological References

Heru-ur, like many Egyptian gods, had more than one persona. Originally, he was depicted as a hawk, a divinity of the sky, eventually becoming into a symbol of kingship. Chiefly a celestial/solar deity, he has had many forms and was combined with a variety of other gods during his evolution. Chief among these was Wesir or Wer (The Great One), a god of light whose eyes were the sun and moon. He was said to be at times the son, and at other times the husband of Hathor, brother to Osiris and Seth, who was also his mortal enemy. Some representations show Heru-ur as the son of Osiris and Isis, avenger of his father's murder.

He was also worshipped as Mekhenti-irry (He who has on his brow Two Eyes), during which time the sun was his right eye and the moon his left. On nights when neither sun or moon are visible, he was worshipped as Mekhenti-en-irty (He who on his brow has no eyes), the god of the blind. In this aspect he held two udjat or uraeus, the eyes of Horus, in his hands.

The ruling pharaoh was considered to be the Living Horus, a stand-in for the deity on the earthly plane. Many pharaohs took the name Horus as a symbol of their relationship to this deity.

Stargate References

Heru-ur made his first appearance on Cimmeria, following the disabling of Thor's Hammer by SG-1. His Jaffa attacked the Cimmerians in an attempt to conquer the planet, but fled when the Asgard came in response to contact through the Hall of Mjollnir. Daniel, Sam and Gairwyn, a Cimmerian native, passed a series of tests in order to contact the Asgard in the hopes that the aliens would come to Cimmeria and repair Thor's Hammer, a protection device which captured the Goa'uld and removed their symbiotes without harm to the hosts. Heru-ur escaped through the Stargate once the Asgard responded to the distress call, though many of his Jaffa were destroyed. (Thor’s Chariot)

Heru-ur came to Abydos shortly after the birth of Shau'ri Jackson's son, the Harsesis child. Born of two Goa’uld hosts, such children were forbidden by Goa’uld law, and upon discovering that Apophis had sired this baby with his mate, Amaunet, Heru-ur sought to hunt down the mother and child. He appeared with his Jaffa on Abydos in search of Amaunet, but a confrontation with SG-1 in the pyramid chamber on Abydos caused him to teleport out via ring transporter to the ship above before completing his mission. (Secrets)

After capturing Teal’c among rebel Jaffa, Heru-ur wished to use him as a bargaining chip with Apophis during a meeting the two rival Goa’uld set up to parlay about combining forces. This meeting was set in a mine field surrounding a planet, ostensibly to ensure that each of them would come alone. Jacob/Selmak, however, recruited SG-1 to help him alter the programming on one of the Tobin mines so that it would home in on one of the motherships and cause each of the Goa’uld to think the other was attacking, so that they would destroy each other. This ploy was unsuccessful due to the fact that Apophis brought his fleet with him and hid them behind the planet until it appeared he had been attacked. Teal’c was safely returned to his team mates just before Heru-ur’s ship was destroyed. (The Serpent’s Venom)
