TEASER

[Chloe walks the corridors of Destiny. The ship is empty. Even the gate room and galley are empty. She reaches a hatchway and looks through its porthole. She sees herself going into the alien light through the hole in the hull. Chloe calls out to herself but the other Chloe gets swept up into the ship. Chloe finds herself falling into the water chamber on the alien ship. She sees a woman walking towards her. It is her mother. They look at each other and their hands reach to each other, stopped by the glass barrier of the chamber. Her mother looks sad. Chloe looks down. When she looks up, Chloe now has the alien's transmitter on her forehead and her mother is now replaced by one of the aliens. Chloe screams and rails at her situation, to no avail…]

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe awakens from the nightmare, sitting up in bed, panting. Scott stirs from where he's lying beside her. He gently rubs her shoulder.]

SCOTT
Another nightmare?

CHLOE

(panting)

Every time I close my eyes.

SCOTT
Maybe you should talk to TJ.

CHLOE

(frustrated)

No, it's not the dream, it's…

SCOTT
What?

[Chloe shakes her head.]

SCOTT
Look, you…they're gone, okay? We got you back. You're safe now.

CHLOE

(scoffing)

So move on? Get over it, right?

SCOTT
Th-that's not what I'm saying.

[Chloe gets up.]

CHLOE

(angrily)

Forget it.

SCOTT
I want to help you.

CHLOE

(sighing)

No, it's fine. I just…I just need to clear my head.

[Chloe leaves. Scott sighs and watches her go.]

INT—CORRIDORS

[Chloe walks the corridor. She hears a noise in the galley.]

INT—GALLEY

[Rush is alone in the room, drinking something from a mug. Chloe joins him.]

RUSH
Same dream?

CHLOE
Yeah.

RUSH

(quietly)

Me too.

CHLOE
What did they do to us?

RUSH
I don't remember everything.

CHLOE
Yeah, me neither. Maybe that's a good thing.

[She looks around, ensuring they're alone.]

CHLOE
Everyone thinks we're safe. They think that they'll never find us again. We're not safe, are we?

RUSH
No.

OPENING CREDIT

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young sits at his desk. Rush enters.]

RUSH
We need to talk.

YOUNG
I was thinking the same thing.

RUSH
Were you, now?

YOUNG
The communication stones.

RUSH
What about them?

[Young stands and comes around to the front of his desk.]

YOUNG
You took one. It's the only explanation. You were the first to open the box. You kept one for yourself.

RUSH
And why would I do that?

YOUNG
Maybe you thought it was some kind of insurance policy. I don't know. You probably thought it wasn't safe to keep in your room, especially after that whole incident with Spencer's gun. So, you kept one with you. That's how the aliens got hold of one, and that's how I would up on that ship.

[Rush's eyes widen, thinking it through.]

RUSH

(unconcerned)

Oh, well.

YOUNG

(with wry chuckle)

Doesn't sound like a denial, Rush.

RUSH
What we should really be worried about is how they found us in the first place.

YOUNG
Well, I figure they tracked the signal from the stone—

RUSH
We don't even know how that signal works.

YOUNG
Maybe they're smarter than us?

RUSH
Well, they're advanced, sure, but not as advanced as the Ancients. I suspect it's something much simpler.

YOUNG
Like what?

RUSH
Subspace tracking device.

YOUNG
We took care of the ship you brought over.

RUSH
Yeah, but there may be another one. Attached to the outside of the hull.

YOUNG

(shrewdly)

Wait a minute. Where is this coming from?

RUSH
I was in direct neural contact with one of the aliens for quite some time. Ever since, I've been having…flashes. Images.

YOUNG
Of…what?

[Rush looks troubled and shakes his head.]

YOUNG
You don't know?

RUSH

(sighing)

No, I don't know. But what I do know is they've been tracking this ship for some time: long, long before we got here. For them, Destiny's something like an obsession. Look, we're out of FTL, will be for several hours. Now's the perfect time to take a look.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott opens the door to a section of the hull, letting a kino float through. He watches it go.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Kino's through.

[He reseals the door.]

INT—KINO ROOM

[Rush, Eli, and Young watch the monitors.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Mr. Brody, please dial back the tensile strength of the shield.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody heads to a console.]

BRODY
Roger that.

EXT—SPACE

[The kino floats to the now-depressurizing section of the ship and through the hole the aliens made in the bulkhead ceiling. It floats over Destiny.]

INT—KINO ROOM

ELI
You know, it's a big ship. This could take a while.

RUSH

(wryly)

Have you something better to do?

YOUNG
Keep me posted.

[He leaves.]

INT—GALLEY

[Young gets himself something to drink in the crowded room. Greer approaches him.]

GREER

(sotto voce)

Can I have a word with you, Colonel?

YOUNG
All right.

GREER
Uh, not here.

[They walk out of the galley together and talk quietly just outside the doorway.]

GREER
I don't know exactly what happened on that planet between you and Rush, and maybe I don't want to know.

YOUNG
Spit it out, Sergeant.

GREER
Well, we never did find out who put that weapon in your quarters, sir.

YOUNG
No.

GREER
There has been some speculation.

YOUNG
I'll bet.

GREER
As far as I'm concerned, we were better off without him. I just want you to know that…whatever happens…

RUSH

(over radio)

Colonel Young, come in!

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead.

INT—KINO ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

We've found it.

[He leaves Eli alone.]

INT—GALLEY

[Young nods to Greer and leaves.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Eli walks with Young. Scott follows]

ELI
It's on the underside of the ship. Uh, I just…I fed the kino track into the shuttle controls, so it should lead you right there, uh…

[Scott pauses as he spots Chloe speaking with Rush down another corridor.]

YOUNG
Any time now, Lieutenant.

SCOTT
Yes, sir.

[Scott moves off, seeing Rush put a comforting hand on Chloe's shoulder before he leaves.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Young sits in the pilot's seat, Scott in the gunner's.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI

(on radio)

All right, guys. The ship's jumping to FTL in a little over one hour.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG
That's plenty of time.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray and Rush move through darkened corridors of the ship, using flashlights. Some lights flicker to life as they pass by.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[Wray and Rush enter a room on the ship that's filled with displays and Ancient consoles. There is a webbed porthole along one bulkhead. Rush starts powering up the consoles as if he's already been there.]

WRAY
What is this place?

RUSH
Well, as far as I can tell, it's some kind of Ancient research lab. Not exactly ideal for our purposes, but…the level of connectivity with the ship's main systems should be adequate.

WRAY
Do we have to do it now?

RUSH
We'll never get a better opportunity. You should really get your people in position.

[Wray departs, holding a radio.]

EXT—SHUTTLE

[The shuttle lifts off.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott moves over to Young's console to watch.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Chloe joins Eli in the control room.]

CHLOE
Eli.

ELI
Hey. What are you doing here?

CHLOE
I want to see the alien ship.

ELI
You know it's just parked there to track us?

CHLOE
I know. But I want to see it.

ELI
Come in.

[He brings up the display of the shuttle's camera showing the alien ship attached to Destiny.]

ELI
There it is.

CHLOE
How long has it been on the ship?

ELI

(skeptical)

Rush says since before we got here, although, it's not entirely clear how he knows.

CHLOE

(confidently)

He knows.

[On a different console, away from Chloe and Eli, a computer comes to life, menus shifting from one side of the screen to another—Rush's transfer of control.]

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle draws closer to the small alien ship.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott works the controls at his own station.]

SCOTT
All right, weapons hot. Target locked. Weapons firing.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle's blasts knock the ship off Destiny. It's power fluctuates, then a chain reaction and blow it to pieces.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Chloe and Eli stare at the footage.]

ELI
That's it. They can't get to us anymore.

[Eli is happy, but Chloe, while relieved, does not look as sanguine.]

INT—HYDROPONICS LAB

[Brody waters the plants.]

VOLKER

(over radio)

Brody. Brody where are you?

BRODY

(into radio)

Hydroponics.

VOLKER

(over radio)

All right, stay there. It's on.

BRODY

(into radio)

What, now?

VOLKER

(over radio)

You signed off on this.

BRODY

(into radio)

Yeah, I know, I know. I just, um…

[TJ enters.]

BRODY

(into radio)

Uh, stand by.

TJ
Hey.

BRODY

(nervously)

Hi. Uh, didn't expect to see you down here.

TJ
Yeah, I just wanted to check on some of the medicinals here.

BRODY
Right. Sure.

VOLKER

(insistent, over radio)

Brody.

BRODY

(into radio)

Yeah, yeah, I'll, uh, meet up with you in about a half hour. Okay? Uh, bye.

[He shuts his radio off.]

BRODY

(to TJ)

That was just uh, that was just, um…Volker and his, um, bridge club.

TJ

(looking at him oddly)

Okay.

[Brody goes back to watering plants and sighs in nervous relief.]

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle lands back on its dock.]

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG
Docking procedure.

[Scott moves to another console behind the pilot area. He sees a display showing the shuttle is not locked onto the ship.]

SCOTT
Uh, sir, I'm reading a negative on the docking clamps.

YOUNG
Let's reset.

[They try again.]

SCOTT
Still negative.

YOUNG

(keying communications)

Eli, we've got a problem. The docking clamps will not engage.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI

(scoffing)

What? That's impossible. Hang on.

[He presses some controls and gets negative feedback. Concerned, he moves to another console, trying to get the clamps to work. Chloe moves with him. As she passes another console, she sees the control transfer happening.]

CHLOE

(torn)

Uh…Eli.

[He comes to her console and sees the transfer.]

ELI
What the hell?

[He presses buttons on the console to no effect.]

ELI

(into radio)

I'm locked out.

INT—SHUTTLE

[The conversation switches between the control room and shuttle.]

YOUNG
What do you mean, you're locked out?

ELI
Someone's transferring controls to another station. I-I, I've got nothing.

SCOTT
Uh, sir. The door won't open, either.

YOUNG
Uh, we're jumping to FTL in about eight minutes. What happens if the ship's not locked down?

[Chloe backs away and leaves. Eli doesn't notice as he's concentrating on the situation.]

ELI
The-the shield won't envelop the shuttle.

YOUNG
And-and what?

ELI
I-I don't know for sure. Nothing good, I know that.

YOUNG
Eli!

ELI
The shuttle wouldn't go into FTL with the rest of the ship.

YOUNG
Which means what?

ELI
I'm not sure, but…I think the shuttle will be vaporized.

SCOTT
Seven minutes.

YOUNG

(worried)

All right, Eli, let's…let's think this through. You said somebody was transferring controls?

ELI
Yeah, that's what it looks like from here.

YOUNG
Well, can you do something about it?

ELI

(stammering)

I-I…if-if-if I…

YOUNG

(soothing)

Stay calm. Take your time.

SCOTT
Five minutes, sir.

[Young nods.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Chloe runs flat out through the corridors.]

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(to Scott)
I'll bet you a buck.
(into radio)

Rush, this is Young, over.

[When there is no answer, he switches to another channel.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Greer, this is Colonel Young.

INT—GATE ROOM

GREER

(into radio)

Go ahead, sir.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG
Take a detail. Find Rush. Now.

GREER

(over radio)

Yes, sir.

INT—GATE ROOM

[Greer heads out.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(worried)

Four minutes.

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[Chloe rushes in.]

CHLOE
Stop it. Stop it, now!

RUSH
Chloe, we've talked about this.

CHLOE
The shuttle docking clamps won't engage.

RUSH

(shocked)

What?!

CHLOE
You have to stop.

RUSH
But I can't!

CHLOE
They're going to die.

RUSH
I canna stop in the middle of this.

CHLOE
They are going to die!

RUSH
Dammit!

[He stares at her in frustration, then reaches for his radio.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Eli, this is Dr. Rush, come in.

[The conversation now switches between the lab, the control room, and the shuttle where Young and Scott can hear the conversation.]

ELI
Go ahead.

RUSH
Now, listen carefully. I'm in the process of transferring access to the computer away from the control interface room. Now, there's nothing you can do to stop that. All you're doing is slowing it down. Let me complete the transfer, and I'll lock down the clamps manually.

[Young and Scott exchange looks.]

YOUNG
Don't listen to him, Eli, keep doing what you're doing.

[Eli nods and reaches for the controls.]

RUSH
Eli, we're in no-man's-land here. Neither of us have control. Now, let me finish before we jump to FTL.

YOUNG
Don't do it, Eli, that is an order.

SCOTT
Two minutes, sir.

[Eli raises his hands up and grunts in exasperation.]

[Wray enters the lab.]

WRAY
What's going on?

CHLOE
The shuttle can't dock, and we're about to jump.

RUSH
I didn't know the transfer would cause this to happen.

[Chloe paces, worried. Wray considers for a moment.]

WRAY
Shut it down.

RUSH
I don't have everything yet. If I stop now, Eli's going to shut me out, and our position will be compromised.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli stares at the countdown clock.]

ELI

(worried)

Colonel?

YOUNG
Negative. Eli, do not let that man take over a single system.

ELI

(irked)

He's doing it anyway.

INT—ANCIENT LAB

RUSH
Transfer is almost complete.

CHLOE
I know why you're doing this. I also know you agreed that nobody should get hurt.

[Rush looks stricken.]

WRAY
We could lose everyone on our side. Shut it down!

[Rush sighs, then types a few commands with the eraser of his pencil. The transfer stops.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI
I got it! I got it!

[Eli starts typing commands.]

INT—SPACE

[The clamps lock onto the shuttle just a few seconds before Destiny launches into FTL.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Young lowers the door.]

YOUNG

Let's go.
(into radio)

Good work, Eli.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli sighs in relief and wipes his face.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[Chloe sighs, relieved.]

WRAY
So, where do we stand? How much control do we have?

RUSH

(resigned)

We're about to find out.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer, James, and two others reach an access way just as the hatches seal shut. Greer tries to reopen them, but he's locked out.]

GREER
What the hell? Come on.

[They head back the way they came.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young and Scott are similarly cut off inside a corridor.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Eli.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI

(into radio)

It's Rush. He's sealing off corridors all over the ship.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott and Young head back down the corridor.]

INT—HYDROPONICS BAY

[Volker arrives and heads over to Brody, annoyed.]

VOLKER
Brody, why's your radio turned off?

[Brody looks across the bay pointedly. Volker follows his gaze to spot TJ sitting in another section. She's overheard the odd discussion and gets up, puzzled.]

TJ
Is there a problem?

BRODY

(with regret)

Sorry, um…you weren't supposed to be down here.

TJ

(concerned)

Guys, wh-what is it? What's happening?

[Volker and Brody exchange looks.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Dunning holds a gun on Park and two other people.]

DUNNING
Get out of my way.

PARK
Put the gun down.

DUNNING
I'm not going to ask you again.

PARK
Just…take it easy.

[TJ, Brody, and Volker arrive.]

TJ
Airman, what are you doing?

DUNNING
Something's going on, Lieutenant. We're cut off from the rest of the ship. I'm trying to report to the Colonel, but these people won't let me through.

[From a different corridor, Wray and another man arrive.]

WRAY
I'm sorry. It was inevitable that a few people would be stuck on the wrong side of the line.

[TJ looks suspiciously back at Brody and Volker.]

TJ
What line?

WRAY
We've sealed off Colonel Young and most of the military personnel. To put it bluntly, we've taken the ship.

[Wray steps in front of Dunning. He raises his weapon to her.]

WRAY
Put the gun down.

DUNNING
Not a chance.

TJ
Camile, why are you doing this?

WRAY
Colonel Young's actions left me no choice. I'm doing this on behalf of all the civilians on board this ship.

DUNNING
What do I do?

TJ

(looking around)

Well, we're not going to go shoot anybody. Put the gun down.

[Dunning lowers his weapon and sets it on the table.]

WRAY
Now everyone just needs to remain calm. This will be over soon enough.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The conversation shifts from the control room to the Ancient lab where Rush is.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, this is Young. I know exactly what you're trying to do, and there is no way in hell that I am going to let you get away with it.

RUSH

(into radio)

I'm not acting alone, Colonel. Besides, what's done is done. I already have the food and water supplies. Plus control of all accessible systems has been transferred over to the consoles on my side of the line.

ELI

(noticing something)

Huh…

YOUNG
What is it?

ELI
That…

[Eli gestures to the radio. Young acknowledges that he's muted it so Rush can't hear.]

ELI
That's not entirely true. He stopped the transfer prematurely, so I could lock down the shuttle—which…saved your lives, by the way.

[Scott nods.]

YOUNG
Moving on…

ELI
That left us control with one key system: life support.

GREER

(intrigued)

So you mean that we could shut down their heat and air on the other side whenever we want.

ELI

(chuckling in disbelief)

We wouldn't do that.

GREER
Do you have any idea what's going on here?

ELI
No. As a matter of fact, I don't. Am-am I the only one?

YOUNG

(back on radio)

You got our attention. What do you want?

RUSH
All military personnel to hand over their weapons immediately and submit to civilian authority.

[Greer laughs.]

YOUNG
Is-is that it?

RUSH
Well, it does tend to be how civilized people structure their societies, Colonel, be that as in nations or in microcosm.

YOUNG
As opposed to what?

RUSH
Military dictatorship. That's got to stop.

YOUNG
Well, Eli tells me there might be a problem with your plan. Something to do with life support.

[Chloe straightens.]

RUSH

(chuckling)

I was hoping that he wouldn't notice that. Anyway, I've done the calculations. We're occupying a much larger area. Therefore, we have a greater volume of air. Plus we have the hydroponics lab producing some oxygen.

[Young looks to Eli. He shakes his head dismissively.]

YOUNG
Not enough to make a difference.

RUSH
If you cut us off right now, we'd have at least three days, which is around about the same amount of time you would have to go without water. If it comes down to a contest, I'm not sure what the final outcome would be, but it wouldn't be pretty.

ELI

(muttering to himself)

It's not pretty now.

YOUNG

(to Greer)

Sergeant.

[They both leave Eli alone.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

WRAY
What did he say?

RUSH
Nothing. But they're still pumping air in here.

WRAY
He'll give in. He's got no choice. We have the 'gate room and the communication room. He's completely cut off.

RUSH
Yeah, but he still has one thing that might make a difference.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli continues to work.]

SCOTT

(sighing)

Come on buddy, you got this.

ELI
It's a very complicated lockout program, okay? I'm going to need some time.

[Young arrives.]

YOUNG
So, I got a head count. Lt. Johansen and Airman Dunning are unaccounted for, so I think we can assume that they are on the other side.

ELI
Of course, just because someone's on the other side doesn't necessarily mean they're, you know, "on" the other side.

SCOTT
Obviously not.

YOUNG
We have a half a dozen civilians, all of which claim to know nothing.

ELI
What about Chloe?

YOUNG
She's with them.

ELI
Like I said…

YOUNG
How's it coming?

ELI
Slowly. It doesn't help that I'm starting to get hungry. Low blood sugar is not my friend.

YOUNG
It's not the food that I'm worried about, it's the water. If dehydration sets in, we're going to be in a lot of trouble.

SCOTT
Is there anything we can do about it?

YOUNG
They've offered a trade. Limited amount of food and water in exchange for…Eli.

ELI
Me?

YOUNG

(nodding)

I've already agreed to it.

SCOTT
Sir, he's the only one who can get us around whatever Rush did to those computers.

YOUNG
I know that, and they know that, and that's why they want Eli. But, there is another way in.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Eli walks down a corridor with a kino remote in his hand, a kino following him.]

ELI
All right, guys, I'm here. And, as you can see…

[He circles kino around the corridor to show it's empty.]

ELI
I am alone.

[He waves at the kino camera.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

RUSH
Open the door.

INT—CORRIDOR

[The door opens. A man is there holding a gun on Eli. Chloe and another woman are also there.]

ELI

(raising his hands)

Whoa! Irony.

CHLOE

Put it down.
(to Eli)

Come on.

[Eli joins them. The man takes a final look around before sealing the door again. Eli and Chloe walk alone together.]

ELI
So…here we are. I can't help but notice that you seem to be well, working with these people.

CHLOE
What did you think, I was a prisoner?

ELI

Well, I was hoping that you…
(stopping)

Wait a minute. In the control room, when you came by…were-were you just trying to distract me?! So that I wouldn't notice what Rush was doing?

CHLOE

(nonplussed)

What?

ELI
Don't "what" me!

CHLOE
No…of course not. Look, I knew it was coming, but I didn't know when.

[Eli doesn't look convinced. She scoffs.]

CHLOE
Believe me or don't believe me, it doesn't matter.

ELI
I guess…I'm just a little surprised you're taking Rush's side against Young.

CHLOE
Rush was an inconvenience, so Col. Young left him on that planet to die. Deliberately.

[She walks off. Eli looks around, then slowly follows.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny falls out of faster than light into normal space.]

INT—GEAR UP ROOM

YOUNG
The hole the aliens cut in the hull is on the other side of the line on their six. Suit up.

[Greer starts to change into a spacesuit. So does Young.]

SCOTT

(pleading)

Sir..

YOUNG
Lieutenant, I already told you. I want you here, in case it doesn't work.

INT—GALLEY

[Several people wait nervously in the room. Brody heads across the room to Volker and Wray.]

BRODY
We shouldn't have given them food and water. It's just going to give them more time.

VOLKER
That doesn't matter. They know they've got no choice.

BRODY
Why don't they just give it up, then?

WRAY
He's a full bird colonel in the United States Air Force. He's used to getting his way. But he also knows that every military in the free world takes orders from a civilian government. We just need to stick together until he remembers that.

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[Chloe leads Eli into the room. Rush is there working and writing on a pad of paper.]

CHLOE
I'll leave you to it.

[She leaves.]

ELI

(exasperated)

To what?

RUSH
Once again, Eli, I find myself in need of your assistance.

ELI
What exactly are you doing?

RUSH
We're going to squeeze every last ounce of power out of the ship's systems. And then when we're done, we're going to find some more.

ELI

(pointedly)

What for?

RUSH
The shields. We're going to need them.

EXT—SPACE

[Greer and Young walk across Destiny's hull in space suits with magnetic boots. While they traverse the outside of the ship, two ships like the one that attacked them before jump out of hyperspace.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[They have seen the ships on their sensors.]

ELI
The tracking device was on that ship that we blew up.

RUSH
One tracking device was on that ship.

ELI
There's another one?

RUSH
Surgically implanted in my chest—next to my heart.

[Eli gulps. Rush walks away.]

EXT—SPACE

[Greer looks up and spots the ships.]

GREER
Colonel…

[As Young looks, another ship arrives.]

YOUNG
We gotta go.

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI
This is insane! Does anyone else know about this?

RUSH
Chloe. I had to be sure she wasn't implanted, too.

ELI
And?

RUSH
There's no surgical scar. They're almost within weapons range. I'm dialing up the shield.

[He reaches for the control.]

ELI

Wait!
(watching Rush's hand hover)

Maybe…maybe that's the wrong plan. I mean maybe we should throw everything we have into weapons.

RUSH

(incredulous)

We can't take on three ships at once.

ELI
Well, we can't run away from them either.

RUSH
That's exactly why I have to do this. If we can survive until the next jump, they're going to realize they can't get past the shields, and they're going to give up.

ELI

(skeptical)

You don't know that.

RUSH
That's the way it's been for a long time, Eli. They attack, they try and get on board. The ship's automatic defenses stop them. They're attacking us now, because they're hoping we're going to make a mistake.

[He reaches for the control again.]

ELI
Don't!

RUSH
Eli, do you want to die?

ELI
No.

RUSH
That's exactly what's going to happen…

ELI
But…

RUSH
…if you don't let me do this.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer lowers himself into the open hole in the hull by falling gently through the shield.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI

(pleading)

No.

[Rush pushes the button.]

INT—SPACE

[Young has already stepped off the hull and is passing through the hole.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

RUSH
What's the matter with you?

ELI

(pacing)

Right.

RUSH
What?

ELI
Sure.

[Rush purses his lips and continues working.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer and Young reach a pressurized corridor and seal the door. They turn off their suits and help each other out of them.]

YOUNG
You'll open the door for Scott and his team, and I'll go find Rush.

INT—MAKESHIFT BRIG

[The door opens where Dunning and TJ are held, and Chloe enters.]

CHLOE
I just wanted to see if there's anything you need.

TJ
You can let us out of here.

CHLOE
Don't worry. You won't have to stay in here for much longer.

TJ
I know. 'Cause the Colonel's going to take back the ship. You don't have any idea what you're up against.

CHLOE
I think we do.

TJ

(scoffing)

Not a clue. Sorry, but a bunch of civilians up against the Colonel's training and experience?

CHLOE
It's about listening to reason.

TJ
Not once you took this ship. That made it war. And that's what we do. It's not going to make life on this ship any easier, and it's not going to make what those aliens did to you any better.

CHLOE
Neither will anything you can possibly say to me.

[The power fluctuates as bombs start to strike the ship.]

INT—GALLEY

[The civilians also notice the power fluctuating.]

INT—BRIG

TJ
What was that?

CHLOE
They're back.

INT—GALLEY

PARK
What's happening?

[Wray runs out of the room, grabbing her radio.]

WRAY

Stay here!
(into radio)

This is Wray. Report!

EXT—SPACE

[The three alien ships continue to strike at Destiny with their energy weapons.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer opens a door. Scott and a team are waiting on the other side.]

GREER
We've got company.

SCOTT
So I figured, let's go!

[They all jog down the corridor. Scott and the team stop short at seeing civilian bodies on the floor.]

SCOTT
Sergeant?

GREER

(shrugging)

They're fine. I went easy on them.

[The team moves on.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI
That's it. That's all the power we're going to get.

RUSH
The shields are holding.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott briefs the military personnel.]

SCOTT
Listen up, if you have to use force, so be it. But we still have to live with these people tomorrow. Remember that. Go.

JAMES
Yes, sir.

[The teams split up.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[Wray arrives, very agitated.]

WRAY
What is going on?

[Rush grimaces.]

ELI
They found us again.

WRAY
How?

INT—MAKESHIFT BRIG

[TJ paces around Chloe.]

CHLOE
We knew this was coming. We're prepared.

TJ
Who's we? I know Rush is the only person on this ship who has any idea what you've been through, but it doesn't mean that you can trust him.

CHLOE
He saved my life when Colonel Young was ready to sacrifice us both.

TJ
We can't afford to have a majority vote every time a decision needs to be made, Chloe. We need a leader!

[Scott and his team arrive.]

SCOTT

(surprised)
Chloe?
(gesturing to his comrade)
All right, put the gun down.
(to TJ and Dunning)

Are you guys okay?

TJ
Yeah, we're fine.

SCOTT
All right, come on, let's go.

[TJ and Dunning leave. Scott glares at Chloe in disappointment before walking away. Chloe pauses, then follows.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

WRAY
You were surgically implanted with a tracking device? Is that what this was all about? You thought if Young was in command, he'd what? Throw you out of an airlock?

RUSH
Given my previous experience, it's hardly an unreasonable assumption. And remember, this was your idea.

[Young, TJ, and Scott arrive, all armed.]

YOUNG
It doesn't matter whose idea it was. It's over.

[Rush looks at him in shock.]

INT—GALLEY

[Greer, James Dunning, and other military arrive, weapons raised. The civilians back away in panic.]

GREER
Everybody down, now! On the floor, now!

JAMES
Get down! I said, GET DOWN!

[James knocks one civilian who approaches her with the butt of her rifle. Greer advances on Volker.]

VOLKER
Wait wait wait wait! Just…wait. Greer.

[Greer cocks his pistol. Volker gets on his knees then lies on the floor. Greer nods. James jogs out of the room.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

YOUNG

(to Eli)

Get the weapons online.

ELI

(scoffing)

Yeah.

RUSH
He can't.

YOUNG
Why?

RUSH
I created a separate lockout code for that system.

YOUNG
Give him the code.

RUSH
No.

YOUNG
We're under attack.

RUSH
I know. The best form of defense is to devote all of our power to the shields.

YOUNG
That's not your decision—

RUSH

(interrupting)

It's already been done.

YOUNG

(raising his pistol)

Really…well maybe I should just shoot you right now.

[Scott and TJ arrive.]

SCOTT
Colonel?

[Young glares at Rush down the barrel of his pistol for a few seconds more.]

YOUNG
Get him out of here.

ELI
Wait. He has a transmitter implanted in his chest.

RUSH

(sighing weakly)

Eli, no…

ELI

(continuing)

That's how they've been following us. Even if we survive to the next jump, they'll just track us again.

[There is another explosion.]

YOUNG
TJ, take care of it.

[Rush stares at Young in disbelief. So does TJ.]

TJ
What?

YOUNG
Cut it out.

TJ
I can't just go digging around in his chest—

[Eli backs away in shock.]

RUSH
She's not qualified for this!

YOUNG
We'll use the stones. We'll get someone who is—

RUSH
We're not equipped for this; are you crazy! This is insane!

YOUNG

(approaching Rush)

You know…that we've got to get that transmitter out.

SCOTT
Sir…I don't recommend giving up any military personnel at this particular moment.

[Chloe arrives.]

CHLOE
I'll do it. I don't need to know what I'm doing. It won't be me, right?

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny's shields flare at each strike of the alien ships' weapons.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Rush is already under anesthesia with an oxygen cannulas on his nose. James, Wray, and TJ are around his body. Dr. Brightman, in Chloe's body, enters with Scott.]

SCOTT
TJ, this is Dr. Brightman.

TJ
Hi.

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
Lieutenant.

[TJ hands her some gloves.]

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
Thank you. Okay. What did you give him?

TJ
An anesthetic I made from the venom of a creature we ran into a while back. In low doses, it'll knock you out pretty good.

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
You gave him alien venom?! Is that safe?

WRAY
Well, without it, we'd all be dead right now.

[TJ smiles at Wray.]

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
Okay.

TJ
I thought at first we were going to have to go in blind, but then Eli—he's one of our people—came up with this.

[She hands Brightman/Chloe a small cable like an arthroscopic camera.]

TJ
It's a camera. He took it out of a kino.

[Brightman stares into the camera lens; the image of Chloe's face appears on the screen.]

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
What's a…?

TJ
It's like a video transmitter. Anyway, we took it apart, and mounted it on that, and that way we can go in arthroscopically.

[There is a distant boom. The room shakes slightly.]

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
What is that?

SCOTT
Uh, yeah. We're under attack.

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
What?!

SCOTT
Shields are holding. We're good.

[Brightman looks around at all of them like they're crazy.]

TJ

(smiling)

Welcome to Destiny.

[There's a closer explosion.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI
All right, that's it.

YOUNG
That's it? We've got weapons?

ELI
I've found a way around the lockout, but I think…

YOUNG
What?

ELI
I think Rush might be right about this one. If I'm reading this correctly, the shields can't take much more.

YOUNG
All the more reason to shoot back.

ELI
We can't spare the power. Weaken the shields even a little, and I think they might collapse completely.

YOUNG
Well, that's what going to happen anyway, isn't it?

ELI
Yes! But maybe, if we're lucky, not before we jump.

YOUNG
Maybe?

ELI
Yeah.

INT—INFIRMARY

[Brightman, as Chloe, is performing the surgery with TJ and James assisting. Rush moves his head a little.]

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE

You got something I can hold this open with? Thank you.
(to TJ)

Lieutenant, can you hold that, please? Thank you. Hold it up. Thank you.

[They all watch as the camera goes inside Rush's body.]

INT—GALLEY

[The civilians, frightened, are still lying on the floor as the lights flicker and explosions sound. Greer, Dunning, and the other guards watch the civilians but look equally nervous at the battle sounds around them.]

INT—INFIRMARY

BRIGHTMAN/CHLOE
Okay. Okay, I see it. Getting it out's going to be a bit tricky, but…

[There is a louder explosion. Brightman disappears and Chloe is now possessing her body. TJ sees the strange expression on her face.]

TJ
Are you okay?

[Chloe looks down, sees her hands are still performing surgery on Rush's body, and she begins to panic.]

CHLOE
Oh god. Oh my god.

WRAY
Chloe?

SCOTT

(into radio)

Eli, this is Scott. We just lost the connection. What the heck is going on down there?

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[The conversation switches between the makeshift control room and infirmary.]

YOUNG
Say again.

SCOTT
We lost the connection. The doctor is gone.

[Young turns to Eli.]

ELI
Maybe-maybe there's too much interference with all the enemy fire on the shields?

YOUNG
Fix it.

ELI

(incredulous)

What?! I'm guessing as it is!

YOUNG

(into radio)

I'm sorry, you're on your own. TJ, you get that thing out of him.

ELI
Shields aren't going to last for much longer. There's…nothing I can do.

YOUNG
How long until we jump?

ELI
Just over a minute?

INT—INFIRMARY

SCOTT
TJ…

[Rush moves his head back and forth.]

TJ

(freezing)

I-I can't!

SCOTT

(loudly, panicked)

You get that thing out of him right now, or I'm going to have to!

[Rush tosses his head, trying to sit up.]

JAMES
Oh! He's coming to!

TJ
Hold him down. Hold him down.

[Everyone reaches forward to hold Rush down on the table.]

JAMES
What do I do?

TJ
Give him another dose of anesthetic.

RUSH

(groggily)

What are you doing to me?

[Everyone else holds him while TJ keeps her hand on the wound and James injects more anesthetic into the IV.]

TJ
Hold him steady, hold him steady.

[Rush falls unconscious again. TJ works with the camera line.]

TJ
Okay, I can see it. Chloe, I need you to hold this.

[Chloe holds the forceps open while TJ works with the rest of the equipment.]

TJ
Okay. There it is. Okay. All right. I got it. Going to pull it out.

[TJ pulls out the small alien device, swallowing in distaste before dropping it in a metal basin.]

SCOTT
Over here. Give it here.

[Scott takes the basin and walks a short distance away. He smashes the transmitter with the butt of his pistol.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

We got it.

[A louder explosion rocks the ship, almost knocking everyone off their feet.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI
Shields are barely registering.

INT—GALLEY

[The guards hold their position as sparks fly and shower the civilians.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

ELI
We're jumping.

EXT—SPACE

[The three alien ships are closing in, firing more and more bursts. Destiny jumps into faster than light speed.]

INT—ANCIENT LAB

[From the porthole window, they can see the aurora effect that shows they're now in faster than light travel.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Everyone breathes sighs of relief now that the bombardment has stopped.]

TJ
Okay, we can close him up. Nice work.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—GALLEY

[Greer stands at the entrance. Guards are posted among all the civilians gathered there. Young approaches the doorway.]

GREER
How'd we do, sir?

YOUNG

(low, to Greer)
Well, the ship's taken some damage. Eli's looking into it. Anyway, we're still here.
(louder)

All right, everyone. I need all of you to head back into your quarters. Now.

[Everyone looks at Young, stone-faced.]

YOUNG

(sternly)

Everyone.

GREER
Sir, we can't guard them all if we let them split up.

YOUNG
It's over, Sergeant.

GREER
All right, people. You heard the man. Let's go.

[The crowd starts to leave, all of them passing Young on their way out. He looks at them all as they pass. Wray comes up from behind Young, watching the last of them leave.]

WRAY
So…

YOUNG
I'm open to suggestions.

WRAY
Obviously, we need to find a way to work together.

YOUNG
Pretend it never happened, you mean.

WRAY
You shouldn't have left him on the planet.

YOUNG
You think I don't know that?

[Wray leaves. Young watches her go with an inscrutable expression. Greer comes up behind Young.]

GREER
It's not over, sir.

YOUNG
No, it isn't.

FADE OUT
