The Prometheus maiden voyage was a result of a hijacking by rogue NID agents working with Col. Frank Simmons and the Goa'uld Adrian Conrad. They felt that it was easier to steal the ship than to gain access to the Stargate. Viewers were given an idea of the massive size of the ship when it rose from its bay. Even though it was not complete on the inside, the Prometheus performed extremely well on its first flight and proved its space-worthiness. (6.11 "Prometheus")

Mission History
Significant Events
* Maiden Voyage: The Prometheus was stolen by a rogue cell of the NID under the command of Col. Frank Simmons. Some of the interior construction was not completed, and the radar system was not operational, but even so, the ship performed well and proved its space-worthiness. (6.11 "Prometheus")
* Hala: Thor of the Asgard towed the Prometheus to the Othalla Galaxy where the Replicators had been captured on the planet Hala. SG-1's mission was to reverse the effects of a time dilation device which the Asgard had created to slow down the Replicators' progression until a method of ridding the universe of them was found. The Replicators turned the device in the opposite direction and evolved into human form. SG-1 successfully reversed the bubble and caught the human form Replicators in it. This was the first time that the Prometheus landed on an alien planet's surface. (6.12 "Unnatural Selection")
* Upgrade: Back on Earth, the Asgard installed energy weapons and shields as a thank-you gift for helping with the Replicators. (6.17 "Disclosure")
* Shake-Down Cruise: Col. William Ronson took SG-1 and his crew out on their first mission to test the fully-operational ship. Unfortunately, the naquadria reactor which  enabled the ship to travel in hyperspace had to be jettisoned because of its instability. The Prometheus had to land on the planet Tagrea and await parts and repair equipment brought through the Stargate in order to get back home. (6.20 "Memento")
* Operational Designation: The Prometheus Project was upgraded from X-303 to BC-303 and was under the command of Gen. Vidrine. (7.07 "Enemy Mine")
* Hyperdrive Upgrade: The hyperdrive engine from an al'kesh was used to help the Prometheus get home. Because an al'kesh is one-tenth the size of the Prometheus, the trips in hyperspace had to be done in spurts so that the engines could cool down. (7.09 "Avenger 2.0", 7.13 "Grace")
* Return Home: Using the al'kesh's hyperdrive engines, the Prometheus was set on a course that would take it near planets with Stargates so that personnel could be rotated and supplies replenished. Due to the nature of the episode, 7.13 "Grace",  whether or not the Prometheus was actually attacked by an alien vessel, trapped in a gaseous cloud, manned only by Maj. Samantha Carter after the rest of the crew was captured by the aliens, suffered severe hull breaches, and existed outside the rest of the universe's normal space-time continuum is left to the interpretation of the viewer. Carter saved the day, even with a concussion, and all of the crew were returned to continue their journey home.
* Battle with Anubis: Gen. George Hammond commanded the Prometheus when Anubis attacked Earth with a large fleet. The Prometheus was first sent to Antarctica to protect SG-1 as they gained access to the Ancient Outpost buried within a mile of ice. After SG-1's mission to access the Outpost was successful, the Prometheus entered orbit to directly battle Anubis' mothership. The ship suffered a lot of damage, and Gen. Hammond was prepared to ram the dying ship into Anubis' ship, but that desperate measure was not necessary after Col. Jack O'Neill activatec the Outpost's defense weapons and destroyed all of Anubis' ships. (7.22 "Lost City Part 2")
* First Line of Defense: Under the command of Col. Lionel Pendergast, the Prometheus was assigned to stay in Earth's orbit and serve as the first line of defense in case Earth was attacked by any remaining System Lords who wished to test if Earth still had the weapons capable of destroying them. (8.02 "New Order Part 2")
* Asgard Upgrade: The Asgard High Council agreed to upgrade the Prometheus with their beaming technology, sensors and scanners, and hyperdrive. (8.08 "Covenant", 6.10 "Endgame", 8.11 "Gemini")
* Search for Osiris' Al'kesh: The Asgard were still in the process of performing upgrades when the Prometheus was called out to search for the cloaked al'kesh left behind by the Goa'uld Osiris when he/she was probing Daniel Jackson's subconscious for memories of his time as an Ascended Being and the location of the Lost City of the Ancients (7.15 "Chimera"). The al'kesh was found and used by a rogue cell of the NID, operating under the name of The Trust, who used the ship to steal the Stargate from the SGC and launch symbiote poison on worlds thought to be in Ba'al's domain. SG-1 tagged the Stargate with a locator beacon and the Prometheus used the new Asgard beaming technology to reclaim it. The al'kesh, however, jumped into hyperspace and the Prometheus was unable to pursue it because the hyperdrive engines had not yet been installed. (8.10 "Endgame")
* Rescue Mission to the Pegasus Galaxy: After the Asgard hyperdrive engines were successfully tested, Gen. George Hammond selected his crew to embark on a rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy where the Atlantis Expedition Team was stranded and had not been heard from since they left. While en route, they answered a distress call and were hijacked by the space pirate Vala Mal Doran. Vala stranded the crew on her crippled al'kesh and took the Prometheus to a planet where she intended to sell it for a case full of refined weapons grade naquadah, but her plans were thwarted by Daniel Jackson who was the only crewmember left onboard the ship. While on the planet, the Prometheus sustained hull damage when it was attacked by death gliders and al'kesh. Daniel and Vala were rescued by the crew of the Prometheus who had managed to get their al'kesh repaired. Vala escaped in that al'kesh, and the trip to the Pegasus Galaxy had to be aborted because of the ship's hull damage. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
* Search for the Goa'ulds' Al'kesh: The members of The Trust who had escaped with Osiris' al'kesh returned home implanted with Goa'uld symbiotes. It was their intention to start a nuclear war on Earth to gain access to the Antarctic Outpost. The Prometheus, still under the command of Col. Pendergast, was assigned to Earth's orbit to search for the al'kesh. The Prometheus also rescued Daniel Jackson via the Asgard beam transporter when he was about to be taken into the Goa'uld's custody in Moscow. The al'kesh attacked the Prometheus and was destroyed in the battle. (8.14 "Full Alert")
* Search for Avalon: With fully operational Asgard sensors, the Prometheus was called into Earth's orbit to scan Glastonbury Tor, England, for underground caverns. The technology performed admirably and the caverns were mapped out. SG-1's Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell led the mission to explore the caverns, using the ring transporter onboard the Prometheus. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
* Kallana: The Prometheus was sent to P4C-452 to rendezvous with Lt. Col. Samantha Carter and SG-1, carrying a Mark IX "Gatebuster" naquadah-enhanced nuclear bomb to stop an Ori incursion on the planet Kallana (Kallana's Stargate was not accessible). The ship was used to monitor the progression of an energy force field being built by the Ori as the first step in their plans to send ships to the Milky Way Galaxy. The Prometheus suffered a hull breach on the hangar deck, but survived the  Ori's attempt at forming a beachhead. Fortunately, the Ori's attempt at building a Supergate through which a fleet of ships could travel was prevented, and the Prometheus returned home. (9.06 "Beachhead")
* Planetary Defense: After the downfall of the System Lords, Ba'al took refuge on Earth. In order that he be left alone, he threatened to blow up a building in Seattle, Washington. The Prometheus was used to transport Lt. Col. Samantha Carter from Virginia to Washington so that she could search for the naquadah bomb. After discovering that the naquadah had been used in the very structure of the building, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell commanded that the entire building be beamed into space where it could safely explode. Most likely, the Prometheus was also used to collect the debris from the blast and return it to the building's original site. (9.07 "Ex Deus Machina")
* Search and Rescue: The Prometheus was sent to P9G-844 to search for Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell after he was captured by the Sodan Jaffa. Scans were made of the planet and several moons and other planets in the system, but Mitchell was not located. He made it home on his own after a two-week ordeal. (9.08 "Babylon")
* Rescue: The Prometheus was on stand-by in case SG-1 and SG-5 needed to be rescued from the planet P3X-584 which had a "call forwarding" device attached to its DHD which might have prevented the team from dialing home. Fortunately, the device didn't hinder outgoing wormholes and the Prometheus didn't have to make the two-day trip to pick up the teams. (9.09 "Prototype")

The Anti-Gravity Pod is housed in the lower portion of the rear of the ship, as labeled on the Venting Sequence display (7.13 "Grace"). The Prometheus most likely uses this feature in entering and exiting its subterranean bay on Earth, in softening an off-world landing, and in hovering or maintaining a stationary position above the ground as it did in Antarctica in order to protect SG-1's cargo ship during Anubis' attack (7.22 "Lost City Part 2").

Decelaration thrusters are used to slow the Prometheus down. They are situated on the front side of the large rectangular hyperdrive engine sections and were seen being used by SG-1 when they landed on the planet Hala. (6.12 "Unnatural Selection")

valign="top"|
The hyperdrive engines were first powered by the powerful, but highly unstable, mineral called naquadria (6.20 "Memento"), but then new hyperdrive technology was installed by the Asgard (8.08 "Covenant", 8.10 "Endgame", 8.11 "Gemini", 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound"). Between that time, however, the ship operated on a temporary adaptation of a hyperdrive engine from an al'kesh (7.13 "Grace").
Hyperdrive control systems are protected with codes, but these codes can be overridden by someone who is familiar with the crystals used in these control systems (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound"). Control crystals are also used in order to interface Earth's technology with the alien technology (6.11 "Prometheus"). An engine coolant system runs through the length of the slender midsection of the ship and into the rear where the engines are located (according to the Venting Sequence display screen seen in 7.13 "Grace"). Spacial gases can interfere with the even flow of power to the hyperdrive emitters and thus prevent a hyperspace window from becoming fully formed (7.13 "Grace"). When the power to the hyperdrive emitter is reduced, it is possible to create a partial shift into hyperspace which can take the ship out of the surrounding space-time temporarily (7.13 "Grace").
If the Prometheus were ever called upon to take a trip to the Pegasus Galaxy using its Asgard hyperdrive engines, it would most likely take approximately 18 days, since this is the amount of time the Daedalus is able to make the trip with their Asgard hyperdrive engines (although, the Daedalus could take less time because it's possible that its hyperdrive engines are superior) (Stargate Atlantis: 2.01 "The Intruder").
The rectangular hyperdrive nacelles are seen on either side of the ship's rear section. The hyperdrive engines glow blue when activated. While traveling in hyperspace, the crew will see blue streaks outside their windows.
On the first shakedown cruise, the Prometheus successfully created a hyperspace window using the naquadria reactor, but the hyperdrive power buffer was overloaded when the ship passed through gravity waves emitted by a collapsing star. The buffer was designed to stablize the power generated by the unstable naquadria, and the ship dropped out of hyperspace when the overload was detected. The crew missed their target because of this premature drop out of hyperspace and decided to take the ship to the nearest planet which had a Stargate in order to obtain the proper repair and replacement equipment. According to the address database created from the Abydos Cartouche, the closest planet was P3X-744. The planet was only .3 lightyears away, so they decided to risk using the hyperdrive without the buffer. They successfully arrived at the planet, called Tagrea by its natives, but the naquadria grew unstable and they had to jettison the reactor module before it went critical. The resulting explosion's electromagnetic pulse (EMP) temporarily knocked out all of the ship's defense systems. SG-1 helped the people of the planet find and unbury their Stargate and returned to Earth, while the Prometheus and her crew stayed on the planet to await repairs. (6.20 "Memento")
With the hyperdrive from an al'kesh installed, the Prometheus began its trip back home. (The al'kesh was obtained in the episode, 7.09 "Avenger 2.0".) Because the al'kesh is a much smaller spacecraft (one tenth the size of the Prometheus), its hyperdrive could only be engaged in small spurts of about 49 lightyears each before having to be cooled down for two hours. (7.13 "Grace")
Eventually, the Prometheus made it home and was placed back into its bay on Earth for repairs. It was called into action against Anubis' fleet over Antarctica, but never engaged hyperdrive in that battle (7.22 "Lost City Part 2"). The ship was assigned to orbit Earth after the battle as a first line of defense, but it wasn't necessary for it to engage its hyperdrive engines during this watch (8.02 "New Order Part 2").
After SG-1 helped the Asgard to defeat the Replicators following their escape from the Asgard's time dilation bubble on Hala (6.12 "Unnatural Selection") and save the Asgard race (8.02 "New Order Part 2"), Gen. Jack O'Neill was in a position to ask the Asgard to install new hyperdrive engines on the Prometheus as a thank-you gift. Thor of the Asgard approached the Asgard High Council, and they approved the request, along with installing Asgard beaming and scanning technology. The installations were done in stages since the Prometheus oftentime had to be called out for various near-Earth missions which didn't call for the use of the hyperdrive engines. (8.08 "Covenant")
Unfortunately, while the Prometheus was still getting the Asgard hyperdrives installed, the ship was called into action against an al'kesh which was under the control of The Trust. The al'kesh had operational hyperdrive engines, but the Prometheus did not, so pursuit of the ship was impossible. The al'kesh, however, did not make its escape with Earth's stolen Stargate and SG-1, since the Asgard beaming technology had been installed and was used to beam them out of the al'kesh before it entered hyperspace. (8.10 "Endgame")
The Prometheus was called back out into space to locate the al'kesh which had returned to Earth with Goa'ulds onboard. The al'kesh engaged the Prometheus in a battle and was destroyed near Earth. The Prometheus did not have to engage hyperdrive engines for this battle. (8.13 "Full Alert")
After the successful testing of the Asgard hyperdrive (8.11 "Gemini"), Gen. George Hammond gathered a crew together to go on a rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy to determine the fate of the Atlantis Expedition Team (dispatched in Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1"). During the trip, they picked up a distress call and attempted to help, but the Prometheus was hijacked by a space pirate named Vala. During the time that she had control of the ship, the hull was damaged by Goa'uld death gliders and al'kesh, and because of this damage, the rescue mission had to be aborted because the use of hyperdrive engines was not recommended with such damage. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
The next time that hyperdrive engines were needed was when the Ori attempted to build a Super Stargate through which an invasion fleet could travel from their far, far galaxy. The building of this Super Stargate came in stages: First, the Ori sent a Prior to the planet Kallana in order to convert the people. The Free Jaffa living on the planet refused to submit to the Ori, so the Prior killed them all. The Ori then began building an energy force field through the Stargate which was designed to collapse the planet into a micro-singularity in order to provide the power for the Super Stargate to maintain a wormhole which would bridge this great distance indefinitely. The Prometheus was called in to rendezvous with SG-1 at a nearby planet and transport them and a very powerful naquadah-enhanced nuclear bomb, nicknamed "Gatebuster". After the Prior refused to stop building his force field, the bomb was set off, but its energy fed the force field instead of destroying it, and eventually, the Ori got what they wanted — a micro-singularity. The Prometheus was slightly damaged by one of the segments of the Super Stargate, but its shields and distance protected it when the singularity was formed. The Super Stargate was weakened and destroyed, and the Prometheus returned home. (9.06 "Beachhead")
The Prometheus and its hyperdrive engines are on call for various missions which may or may not require their need to travel in hyperspace. Most of the time, the ship acts as a first line of defense for Earth (9.07 "Ex Deus Machina"), but the ship is prepared to go anywhere within the galaxy to rescue stranded SGC personnel (8.08 "Babylon", 9.09 "Prototype").

Sublight engines enable the Prometheus to accelerate to 110,000 miles per second, which is over half the speed of light (186,000 miles per second). An ignition module must be calibrated to within a 1% margin of error in order for the engines to start. If outside this margin, the module will burn out, and the engines will fail to start. Sublight engines can place the Prometheus in Earth's orbit in less than 30 seconds. (6.11 "Prometheus")
The relay for the sublight engines is located on Deck 8 (6.11 "Prometheus").

The Prometheus is designed to carry eight (8) F-302 space intercept fighters (6.17 "Disclosure"). The fighters are kept in the cargo bay and hangar area at the front of the ship (labeled as the forward cargo hangar in a display graphic from the episode, 7.13 "Grace").
We have not yet seen an F-302 exit or enter the Prometheus. However, a squadron of them assisted the Prometheus in the battle over the Antarctic when Anubis attacked Earth. Although capable of entering outer space, these F-302s intercepted the al'kesh and death gliders sent by Anubis above the ground as the Prometheus hovered over the enhanced cargo ship used by SG-1 to gain access to the Ancient Antarctic Outpost. Once the F-302s depleted their weapons, they were recalled to McMurdo Station. (7.22 "Lost City Part 2")

valign="top"|
The Asgard installed their beaming technology (transporter system) in the Prometheus. Because the Earth vessel was not equipped with the advanced sensors the Asgard used to pinpoint their targets, small remote transmission beacons, about the size of an automobile remote control, were used as locators. The use of locator beacons was introduced by the members of The Trust when they needed to transport to the al'kesh left behind by Osiris (7.15 "Chimera"). One of their undercover operatives placed a beacon on the Stargate and The Trust beamed the Stargate out of the embarkation room. The Prometheus monitored the frequency of these beacons and used the transporter to retrieve the Stargate and SG-1 from the al'kesh and place them into the ship's cargo bay. (8.10 "Endgame")
The Prometheus crew adapted the use of the remote locator beacons into their standard operations of the beaming technology. They gave one of their beacons to Daniel Jackson when he was sent to Moscow to investigate why The Trust had been interested in gaining access to the minister of defense, General Kiselev, through former Vice President Robert Kinsey. Kiselev, as it turns out, was a Goa'uld, and SG-1 discovered that Kinsey had also been implanted with a Goa'uld. Daniel's life was placed in danger when Kiselev discovered that he was interrogating Kinsey's Goa'uld. Kiselev sent soldiers to apprehend Daniel, but Daniel used the locator beacon to escape from Moscow, along with Kinsey. In order for both of them to be transported, Daniel had to make physical contact with Kinsey (he put his hand on Kinsey's shoulder). The two men materialized on the bridge of the ship, indicating that the Prometheus crew were able to determine the size of the target and materialize it in an area of appropriate size. (8.10 "Endgame", 8.14 "Full Alert")

valign="top"|
More sophisticated Asgard sensors were installed in the Prometheus by the time that the Goa'uld, Anubis, and the Replicators had been defeated (8.18 "Threads"). These sensors permit the Prometheus to lock onto a target and beam it without the use of locator beacons. In order to follow up on the possibility that the Ancients had left a treasure of technology in the Glastonbury Tor in England, the Prometheus was called into service to scan for underground caverns. The sensors did help locate these caverns, but the beaming technology would not work because of the interference of the Ancients' shielding. The ring transporter had to be used instead. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
The Asgard beaming technology was used when the Prometheus was called to investigate an Ori incursion on the planet Kallana. They beamed SG-1 (makeshift team of Lt. Col. Mitchell, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala Mal Doran) and Lt. Col. Samantha Carter's Mark IX "Gatebuster" bomb to the planet. After negotiations with the Prior of the Ori failed, SG-1 was beamed back onto the Prometheus and the bomb was detonated. (9.06 "Beachhead")
When former System Lord Ba'al was found to be living on Earth and building his power as a businessman, taking over the corporations formerly under The Trust, the Prometheus was called into action in order to search for a naquadah bomb Ba'al claimed was in a building he owned in Seattle, Washington. The Prometheus beaming technology was used to get Carter to the building quickly from her stake-out on the East Coast and eventually, to beam the entire building into space so that it could explode without harm. It is possible that the beaming technology was used to gather and redistribute the rubble from that explosion back on the building's original location on Earth, but there was an insufficient amount of debris, causing the media, namely Julia Donovan, to create conspiracy theories. (9.07 "Ex Deus Machina")

valign="top"|
Several airlocks line the slender mid-section of the ship. Airlocks may be vented through initiating a Venting Sequence controlled through the computer consoles (7.13 "Grace"), or performing a manual override to open the door via a control keypad (6.11 "Prometheus").
There have been two occasions in which an airlock has been vented:
When Col. Frank Simmons stole the Prometheus in order to go to a planet thought to have a cache of Ancient weapons and technology, he coordinated his efforts with the Goa'uld who had taken the billionaire Andrian Conrad as a host (5.11 "Desperate Measures"). This Goa'uld and Simmons got into a fight on the bridge and Simmons killed Conrad. The symbiote jumped into Simmons and then went after Col. Jack O'Neill and Teal'c who had boarded the ship secretly through the lower bay with a death glider. In their struggle, Jack initiated a manual venting by entering the control sequence on a keypad to open the doors. Col. Simmons was sucked out into space. (6.11 "Prometheus")
The second occasion in which the airlocks were mentioned was in the episode, 7.13 "Grace". Because of the nature of this episode, whether or not all events onboard the Prometheus were real or imagined by an concussed Maj. Samantha Carter is left to viewer interpretation. The use of the computer-controlled Venting Sequence was invoked by Carter as a way to move the ship which was stuck in a gaseous cloud. The venting of Airlock 3 failed, however, to break the ship free.
Armory
valign="top"|
There are most likely several armories on the Prometheus. The number of armories is not known, but we've been given glimpses of one of the armory rooms, which appears to be small and packed with various weapons and munitions.
After Vala Mal Doran boarded the Prometheus in a Kull Warrior's armor, Daniel Jackson gained access to an armory to obtain a P-90 (submachinegun) fitted with a Kull Warrior nullifying weapon. He also grabbed a vest, but the contents of the vest were not identified. The anti-Warrior weapon was operational, but was not effective because the person inside the armor was not a Kull Warrior. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
Those onboard the Prometheus usually don't carry weapons on a regular basis, except for the security detail; these personnel use sidearms, usually a Beretta (9mm handgun). (8.14 "Full Alert")
One of the armory rooms was seen being used by Daniel Jackson, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, and Teal'c while they prepared to investigate the underground caverns of the Glastonbury Tor. Each man equiped himself with a vest, which included a radio and flashlight, as well as P-90s. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
Other weapons stored in the armory include M-16A2 assault rifles. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

valign="top"|
The bridge of the Prometheus has stations of several types to support the ship's missions. In the front, right up under the observation windows, are several stations, mainly for battle situations. The commander sits in the center of three chairs which are situated in the bridge's front and center. The command chair has various controls, including communications, on the arms. On the commander's right there sits a helmsman, and on his left, the navigator. Behind these chairs is a star map. Large display screens adorn several of the walls of the bridge, the largest being directly opposite the door to the bridge, to the commander's left.
All of the systems for the ship are protected with control access codes (6.11 "Prometheus", 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound").
Briefing Room
valign="top"|

valign="top"|
The briefing room in the Prometheus is designed with small groups in mind. There is a large built-in display monitor which serves as a map to the Prometheus itself. Next to this display is a wall-mounted communications phone (in later versions of this room).  This large display is on the same wall as the entrance and is directly opposite of a large, six-paneled window. A large rectangular conference table, able to seat up to twelve individuals confortably (two at each end and four on each side), sits in the middle of the room. There is room between the end of the conference table and the windowed wall for additional seating and standing room. Various electronic control panels and ventilation covers decorate the walls of the briefing room.
The briefing room was first seen when SG-1 and the crew of the Prometheus were given historical records of the planet Tagrea to sift through in order to find references to the Stargate that they believed was buried there. The Prometheus was stranded on this planet because they had to jettison their naquadria reactor which powered their hyperdrive engines. The investigation was held at a table which had a clear glass top and curved-back armchairs with casters. This same room might have served as a dining room when the Tagrean representatives visited the ship, with the glass table covered with a white tablecloth for the occasion, but it is just as possible that this gathering was held in a similarly configured room (see also "Mess Hall" section below). The communications phone was on the right-hand wall next to the window in this particular briefing room. (6.20 "Memento")
Two years later, the briefing room went through some changes and was possibly moved from its previous location. Instead of a glass-topped table, a black table with a matte finish was centered in the room. The chairs also appeared to have been replaced with those with higher backs with an oblong hole near the top which acted as a handle or grip. There were only four panels of the large window open for viewing the outside as the outer two were covered by single-panel, built-in shutters which matched the surrounding bulkhead. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
Daniel Jackson used portable audio/video equipment to present his mission briefing on their rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy. This equipment included a large flat-screen monitor which displayed his briefing graphics and a hand-held remote control, and was on an audio/video cart for ease of handling. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
Brig
valign="top"|
When Daniel Jackson was left alone on the Prometheus with the space pirate Vala, he confined her to one of the brig rooms which was located on Deck 5. The room is quite generous in space and is equipped with a toilet and sink. There is a surveillance camera and microphone securely fastened to the room's ceiling. The camera's output can be seen on one of the video monitors on the bridge. The brig room is also equipped with a speaker which permits two-way conversation. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
Bulkhead and Overall Interior Design
valign="top"|
valign="top"|
valign="top"|
The bulkhead is composed of a trinium alloy which reinforces the insides of the ship and separates the compartments (6.11 "Prometheus"). Trinium is an alien material which is 100 times lighter and stronger than steel (2.13 "Spirits"). For the most part, bullets bounce off of the bulkhead, but a plasma cutter can cut through it (6.11 "Prometheus", 8.14 "Full Alert").
Seen on the walls in nearly every compartment are various boxes, electronic indicators, and vents which have to do with power, lighting, safety, security, and environmental controls. Most every inhabitable room also has a fire extinguisher and a phone mounted on a wall.

valign="top"|
The cargo bay and hangars (most likely for the complement of eight (8) F-302 intercept fighters) are in the forward section of the Prometheus. This area is seen labeled in the Venting Sequence display screen as "Fwd Cargo Hangar" in the episode, 7.13 "Grace".
We've yet to see an F-302 enter or exit the Prometheus, but have seen a Goa'uld death glider make its approach to the lower cargo bay in the episode, 6.11 "Prometheus". Col. Jack O'Neill and Teal'c used a death glider from Anubis' crashed ha'tak (6.03 "Descent") to secretly board the Prometheus after it was stolen by a rogue cell of the NID under the leadership of Col. Frank Simmons. Their approach was possible because the radar systems for the Prometheus were not yet operational as the ship was still under construction when it was stolen.
The cargo bay was mentioned in the episode, 8.10 "Endgame", when it was used to hold the Stargate after the Stargate and SG-1 were beamed out of a Goa'uld al'kesh which was under the control of The Trust. The crew of the Prometheus intercepted a locator beacon signal in order to use the newly-installed Asgard beaming technology. The size of the object must have been determined by this beaming technology control systems because the Stargate would most likely not have fit anywhere else on the ship. The Stargate is 22 feet in diameter.

valign="top"|
The hangar deck suffered a hull breach when a segment of the Super Stargate being constructed by the Ori collided with the Prometheus on its way to join others. These segments were sent through the Stargate on the planet Kallana and didn't have any crew, but were automated to intercept with each other near the singularity which Kallana would become through the Ori's use of a planet-collapsing force field. It was the intention of the Ori to power the Super Stargate with the resulting black hole and send a fleet of large ships through the wormhole to invade the Milky Way Galaxy. Vala Mal Doran concluded that a Goa'uld cargo ship could replace one of these segments, so she piloted one into the formation. Because the cargo ship was not meant to endure the electrical force used by the segments to maintain integrity, the Super Stargate did not form correctly and blew apart when the shock wave of the singularity's formation hit it. The Prometheus survived the Super Stargate's destruction, but Vala's ring transporter matter stream was drawn into the singularity. (9.06 "Beachhead")

valign="top"|
The size and composition of the crew vary based on the mission. The history of the crew and the ship's missions are covered in a separate article entitled "Prometheus Crew".
The crew's quarters are located at the rear of the spacecraft, above the two large sublight engines (based on display graphics seen in the episode, 7.13 "Grace"). We have not yet seen the interior of one of these compartments (see "Bulkhead and Overall Interior Design" for more information about basic compartment features).
Elevators
valign="top"|
Elevators on the Prometheus are called through the use of a keycard which is swiped through a card reader, just like those in the SGC base, except that a secondary swipe isn't necessary once inside the elevator (as was seen when O'Neill used his card to call the elevator on Level 19 and also had his card read inside the elevator to get to Level 28 in the episode, 6.22 "Full Circle"). The card reader on the Prometheus also has a keypad, whereas the card readers at the SGC do not. The elevator has the same number of buttons on its panel as the one at the SGC (28), even though it is not apparent that the Prometheus has the same number of levels (or decks). There are opposing doors (a "front" and a "rear" set) in the elevator seen being used by Dr. Daniel Jackson and Dr. Lindsey Novak on their ride to Deck 5 in the episode, 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound".
In case the elevators are not operational, personnel may use access passageways equiped with ladders (see the "Maintenance Accesses" section below) (6.11 "Prometheus").

Hull
valign="top"|
The Prometheus has two hull layers, called the outer hull and the inner hull. It is possible for the outer hull to suffer damage, while the inner hull maintains the ship's integrity and life support. (7.13 "Grace")
When Daniel Jackson explained to the Unas clan leader Iron Shirt on the planet P3X-403 that the SGC needed naquadah to build spaceships, he most likely was referring to the composition of the Prometheus hulls (7.07 "Enemy Mine"). The Goa'uld also use naquadah in the building of their spaceships (7.04 "Orpheus").
Asgard shields protect the Prometheus, but if the shields are not engaged during a battle, the Prometheus will suffer hull damage from weapons fire from Goa'uld al'kesh and cargo ships, corrosive gases, and impacts of solid objects. The ship is not able to use the hyperdrive when there are hull breaches. (7.13 "Grace", 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound", 9.06 "Beachhead")
The most severe hull breach occurred in the episode, 7.13 "Grace". Based on the nature of this episode (i.e., hallucinations), whether or not the Prometheus was actually critically wounded to the point that inner hull breaches were imminent remains within the realm of viewer interpretation. In this episode, four outer hull breaches were created when the hull was corroded after the Prometheus entered a gaseous cloud to hide from an alien spaceship which had attacked without provocation or warning. Those sections affected by the corrosive gases were sealed off, but even with shields, these type of breaches cannot be contained, and eventually the inner hull also would be breached. The only way for the ship to remain intact was to remove it from the gaseous cloud which was causing the corrosion. Carter saved the ship and its crew, and all returned home safely.
Outer hull breaches were sustained after the Prometheus landed on a planet and its shields were not in use after it was hijacked by the space pirate Vala Mal Doran and programmed to land automatically. Vala reprogrammed the access codes so that only she could pilot the ship, but she refused to reveal these codes even after Daniel Jackson, the only crew member left onboard, confined her to the brig. Because of the hull damage, the Prometheus could not continue with its rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy and had to return home for repairs. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")
The hull to the hangar deck was breached when it was struck by one of the segments of the Ori's Super Stargate being constructed near the planet Kallana. This collision also disabled the scanners and reduced the shields to 20% of their operational capabilities, but these systems were brought back up aftewards and the crew successfully completed their mission. (9.06 "Beachhead")

Prometheus

Summary

The Prometheus is a space-worthy battle ship created by the Air Force using Earth and alien technology. It was developed under the designation X-303, named the Prometheus after its maiden flight (6.11 "Prometheus"), and given the upgraded designation of BC-303 after it proved its capabilities (7.07 "Enemy Mine").

Mythological References

Prometheus (literally, "forethought") is one of the Titans from Greek mythology, son of Iapetus and Clymene. Zeus entrusted him with the task of making men out of mud and clay. Out of pity for their state, he gave them fire, stealing it from heaven, and was punished by being chained to Mount Caucasus, where an eagle preyed on his liver. He was finally rescued by Hercules. Real-World References

NASA has a Project Prometheus (Prometheus Nuclear Systems and Technology) which is the investigation into nuclear-powered spacecraft. Currently, solar power and chemical propulsion technologies are what drive our spacecraft. NASA, along with the Department of Energy's Office of Naval Reactors, is determining the possibility of developing a space nuclear reactor to supply future exploration spacecraft with a significant increase in on-board power and spacecraft propulsion capability. The goal is to see missions leave the solar system and to increase the knowledge gained from each mission.

History of Development

In the episode, 6.11 "Prometheus", Maj. Samantha Carter was approached by a television reporter named Julia Donovan concerning a secret multi-billion-dollar project being conducted in Nevada. Donovan knew about the alien metal Trinium and that the two-year-old project in Nevada was thought to be a fusion reactor. She was threatening to air her report, but a deal was worked out so that she would get an exclusive tour, but would have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Carter told Donovan's film crew once they arrived at the site in Nevada, "All the key systems were reverse engineered from a ship that crashed 100 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1978. It was only in the last few years that our technology evolved to a point where we could take advantage of what we had."

The truth of this statement was questioned by Jonas Quinn and Carter said that "Fairbanks" sounded better than "Roswell". Carter also implied that the ship which was found in Fairbanks was of Asgard design.

Carter gave this story about the Prometheus to the news crew with the knowledge that the Air Force intended to destroy the taped footage of the tour. The news crew was under the impression that the footage would be kept by the government until it was deemed appropriate to reveal the existence of the spacecraft, giving Donovan the exclusive. The SGC was in effect operating a double cross in order to find the identity of Donovan's source.

Part of Carter's explanation about the Prometheus was true. She stated that it was the third in a series of designs that incorporated both human and alien technology. Major Paul Davis, when disclosing the Stargate Program to ambassadors of China, Great Britain, and France, stated the same thing. The X-303 was the third in the series, following the development of the X-301 and X-302 intercept fighter spacecraft (6.17 "Disclosure").

Up until this point, the alien technology only included that of the Goa'uld, but since then, the Asgard have added some of their technology as thank you gifts for helping them in the war with the Replicators (6.17 "Disclosure", 8.10 "Endgame", 8.11 "Gemini", 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound").

In the episode, 8.19 "Moebius Part 1", it was revealed that the Prometheus has a sister ship, the Daedalus, which has the advantage of being developed with the upgrades already in the design. Basically, Prometheus went through several upgrades and the Daedalus benefited from them.

Bay on Earth

Elevator shack gives access to the subterranean bay
Prometheus in subterranean bay
Large docking clamps secure the spaceship
Bay doors begin to open
Prometheus begins to clear bay roof doors
Prometheus' maiden voyage

The Prometheus sits in a subterranean bay in Nevada (Area 37-92/NV) where it was assembled and is maintained (6.11 "Prometheus", 7.22 "Lost City Part 2", 8.10 "Endgame", 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound"). It is held in place with large docking clamps (6.11 "Prometheus"). Access to the subterranean bay is given through an elevator housed in a shack surrounded by an electric fence (6.11 "Prometheus"). The ship enters and exits through large retractable roof doors (6.11 "Prometheus")

The Prometheus' maiden voyage was a result of a hijacking by rogue NID agents working with Col.

Significant Events

 • Maiden Voyage: The Prometheus was stolen by a rogue cell of the NID under the command of Col. Frank Simmons. Some of the interior construction was not completed, and the radar system was not operational, but even so, the ship performed well and proved its space-worthiness. (6.11 "Prometheus")
 • Hala: Thor of the Asgard towed the Prometheus to the Othalla Galaxy where the Replicators had been captured on the planet Hala.
 • Upgrade: Back on Earth, the Asgard installed energy weapons and shields as a thank-you gift for helping with the Replicators. (6.17 "Disclosure")
 • Shake-Down Cruise: Col.
 • Operational Designation: The Prometheus Project was upgraded from X-303 to BC-303 and was under the command of Gen. Vidrine. (7.07 "Enemy Mine")
 • Hyperdrive Upgrade: The hyperdrive engine from an al'kesh was used to help the Prometheus get home. Because an al'kesh is one-tenth the size of the Prometheus, the trips in hyperspace had to be done in spurts so that the engines could cool down. (7.09 "Avenger 2.0", 7.13 "Grace")
 • Return Home: Using the al'kesh's hyperdrive engines, the Prometheus was set on a course that would take it near planets with Stargates so that personnel could be rotated and supplies replenished.
 • Battle with Anubis: Gen.
 • First Line of Defense: Under the command of Col. Lionel Pendergast, the Prometheus was assigned to stay in Earth's orbit and serve as the first line of defense in case Earth was attacked by any remaining System Lords who wished to test if Earth still had the weapons capable of destroying them. (8.02 "New Order Part 2")
 • Asgard Upgrade: The Asgard High Council agreed to upgrade the Prometheus with their beaming technology, sensors and scanners, and hyperdrive. (8.08 "Covenant", 6.10 "Endgame", 8.11 "Gemini")
 • Search for Osiris' Al'kesh: The Asgard were still in the process of performing upgrades when the Prometheus was called out to search for the cloaked al'kesh left behind by the Goa'uld Osiris when he/she was probing Daniel Jackson's subconscious for memories of his time as an Ascended Being and the location of the Lost City of the Ancients (7.15 "Chimera").
 • Rescue Mission to the Pegasus Galaxy: After the Asgard hyperdrive engines were successfully tested, Gen.
 • Search for the Goa'ulds' Al'kesh: The members of The Trust who had escaped with Osiris' al'kesh returned home implanted with Goa'uld symbiotes.
 • Search for Avalon: With fully operational Asgard sensors, the Prometheus was called into Earth's orbit to scan Glastonbury Tor, England, for underground caverns. The technology performed admirably and the caverns were mapped out. SG-1's Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell led the mission to explore the caverns, using the ring transporter onboard the Prometheus. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
 • Kallana: The Prometheus was sent to P4C-452 to rendezvous with Lt.
 • Planetary Defense: After the downfall of the System Lords, Ba'al took refuge on Earth.
 • Search and Rescue: The Prometheus was sent to P9G-844 to search for Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell after he was captured by the Sodan Jaffa. Scans were made of the planet and several moons and other planets in the system, but Mitchell was not located. He made it home on his own after a two-week ordeal. (9.08 "Babylon")
 • Rescue: The Prometheus was on stand-by in case SG-1 and SG-5 needed to be rescued from the planet P3X-584 which had a "call forwarding" device attached to its DHD which might have prevented the team from dialing home. Fortunately, the device didn't hinder outgoing wormholes and the Prometheus didn't have to make the two-day trip to pick up the teams. (9.09 "Prototype")
