Tenat of Oran

Summary

Tenat of Oran was one of two buyers interested in purchasing the stolen Prometheus from Vala in the episode, 8.12 "Prometheus Unbound".

Character Biography

Vala Mal Doran stole the Prometheus and intended to sell it to Tenat and his partner for a case of weapons grade refined naquadah. Because she had reprogrammed the Prometheus' systems, Daniel Jackson, the only crewmember left onboard when the ship was stolen, had no choice but to go along for the ride and attempt to talk with Tenat. He introduced himself as "Hans Olo" and wore the protective outer armor of the Kull Warrior suit Vala had used to take over the ship. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Daniel was under the impression that Vala sent the ship to her homeworld where there were refugees seeking shelter from Ba'al's forces. Once he met Tenat and Tenat's partner, he found out that Vala had lied to him and was selling the Prometheus. Daniel refused to sell the ship and the two aliens drew their weapons. While facing off, the Prometheus was fired upon by Goa'uld death gliders and al'kesh, most likely belonging to Ba'al. Daniel zatted the two traders, reboarded the ship, and made an escape, leaving the two on the planet next to their case of naquadah. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Somehow, Tenat and his partner, Jup, lost the case of naquadah. This naquadah was extremely expensive and it belonged to the Lucian Alliance, a coalition of former smugglers and mercenaries who've banded together to take advantage of the power vacuum left by the demise of the Goa'uld. One of the leaders of the Alliance, Vosh, placed a bounty on Vala's head, wanting her dead or alive, in order to make her an example of all those who defy the Alliance. Tenat and Jup were given the chance to capture Vala and her partner, Hans Olo. They set off in their cargo ship to search for her after putting the word out about the bounty. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")

Vala knew how the Alliance approached their problems and devised a plan to get the cargo ship back from Tenat so that she could give it back to its original owner, a smuggler named Caius. She agreed to get the cargo ship back for Caius because of a string of deals she needed to undo in order to get information about how to sever the physiological bond she had with Daniel which was established through her use of "kor mak" bracelets. Vala devised a plan where Col. Mitchell and Teal'c would pose as bounty hunters who had captured her and her partner and were seeking the reward of a case of weapons grade naquadah. While Jup took Daniel and Vala onboard the cargo ship, Tenat and Mitchell and Teal'c held their weapons on each other awaiting the ringing down of the reward. Once onboard the cargo ship, Daniel and Vala overpowered Jup and ringed him down at the same time they ringed Mitchell and Teal'c up. They promptly took off with the ship. There was never a case of naquadah to trade because the Alliance would not trust them with it after they lost the other one. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")

Tenat knew that there was a possibility that he would be double-crossed, so he had arranged to have a portion of the Alliance's fleet meet the cargo ship not far from the planet. Because Caius had made several upgrades to the cargo ship's systems, most of which were designed to evade capture, Vala and her partners made their escape and gave the ship back to Caius. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")

Even after the fiasco of losing the cargo ship, Tenat managed to obtain a Goa'uld ha'tak vessel, manned by several of his Oranian friends. Jup, however, was busy elsewhere, so was not present when Tenat crossed SG-1's path once again. This time, Tenat found the stolen and crippled Odyssey which had been taken by a mutinous Anateo, one of Netan's seconds. After boarding Netan's ha'tak to inform him of the find, Tenat recognized Mitchell as "Cam Mitchell, Bounty Hunter" when Mitchell was impersonating one of Netan's faithful seconds, Kefflin. Tenat decided not to identify Mitchell as an imposter if he'd cut him a deal, based on whatever rewards Mitchell supposedly would gain from his scam. Mitchell agreed to give him 25% and told him that he'd ring over to Tenat's vessel right before the two ships went into hyperspace to Odyssey's location. Mitchell had been using a ring tainted with the Reol chemical which makes the victim see whomever the ringwearer wanted him to see, and he pricked Tenat with the ring to get the chemical in his system. When he ringed over, he impersonated Netan and had Tenat fire upon Netan's own ship when they arrived at Odyssey's location, promising great territories to command for getting rid of the ship full of traitors. Infuriated, Netan contacted Tenat over the visual communications link and Tenat was confused because there were in effect, two Netans! Netan ordered his ship to fire upon and destroy Tenat's ship. Realizing that he was about to die, Tenat cursed Cam Mitchell for causing his imminent death. (10.09 "Company Of Thieves")
