Storyline

Details are still not available for this movie, which has not been officially announced by MGM (deals are still needing to be made), but writer Brad Wright has described it as "an O'Neill story" and has stated that Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black) will not be part of the story.

Production Notes

  • "Finding out about the Stargate has been a story that has always been at the back of my mind as a potential, big thing we could do, and I think it’s a big enough story to save it for a movie. Hint. Hint. Hint. Hint." — Brad Wright, MGM Video Interview, posted in July 2008.
  • "Carl put out a preliminary beat sheet for the next SG-1 movie and will, no doubt, be expecting notes in the coming days." — Joseph Mallozzi, October 18, 2008.
  • "Well, it’s definitely in the works. Brad and Carl hammered out a story and Carl is presently writing the first draft. I also believe there has been some preliminary discussions with the actors." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 21, 2008.
  • "Carl Binder and I are co-writing the script. Martin [Wood] will direct. If you have a good title, let me know." — Brad Wright in Joseph Mallozzi's Weblog, January 2, 2009.
  • Solutions: Brad Wright Reveals More About Third SG-1 Movie, January 3, 2009.
  • "I would jump back into the army boots any day." — Amanda Tapping, Solutions: Tapping on Return to Stargate, SGU Premiere, January 26, 2009.
  • "So what, many of you have been asking, IS happening with the SG-1 and SGA movies? Well, at last report, Carl was about 20 pages away from a first pass of the script which will then find it’s way onto Brad’s laptop where he will do his pass. The Atlantis movie is still an outline but Paul and I will be starting work on the script in the coming weeks and hope to have it completed by April. An official production start date for either movie has yet to be announced. More detailed discussions on both movies will be taking place in the coming weeks and, hopefully, I’ll have more definitive news for you then regarding everything from actor participation to a preliminary schedule." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 26, 2009.
  • "There will be a Stargate SG-1 movie [for DVD], probably filmed around the same time the [Stargate] Atlantis movie is filmed this coming summer. So that’s all going to be going on. [...] as far as I know, is pretty Rick-heavy [as in Richard Dean Anderson], pretty O’Neill [Anderson]-heavy. So I don’t know much more than that, but I will most definitely be involved in it." — Michael Shanks, Solutions: SGU, SG-1 Movie Casting News, January 26, 2009.
  • Concerning the Stargate Program going public: "Yeah, you know what? It was a possibility, it was something we considered, but obviously it couldn't really be dealt with in that episode [SGA's "Enemy at the Gate"]. We would have had to have come back to deal with it. And Brad has said that it's something that he wanted to deal with in SG-1. At this point I'm not sure -- if we had done it it would have run counter to what's going on with the third SG-1 movie. For that reason alone, we couldn't have done it. It would be nice to sort of take that step and open up and make the program public." — Joseph Mallozzi, About.com interview, posted in early February 2009.
  • Concerning Richard Dean Anderson and the Stargate franchise: "If it hadn't been for Rick, the franchise wouldn't be the franchise. I don't know that we would have done ten seasons, much less done the spin-off. So the success, and a lot of the humor, really goes back to Rick." — Joseph Mallozzi, About.com interview, posted in early February 2009.
  • "No title yet. Carl has finished work on his first SGU script, Water, and is moving on to an outline for his second script. Once that is done, he’ll finish his pass on the SG-1 movie and then send it Brad’s way at which point Brad will do his pass." — Joseph Mallozzi, February 3, 2009.
  • "I would have thought word had gotten out by now, but as I am informed, so shall ye be: the movie has been green lit. There are so few details beyond the ‘go ahead’, but I sat next to Charlie Cohen and across from Brad Wright at dinner two weeks ago (the cast dinner for the launch of Stargate Universe), and just an hour prior to sitting down to mediocre cuisine, Charlie had announced MGM’s intention to make the next Stargate movie. As I am led to believe, shooting may start this summer, most likely." — Richard Dean Anderson, March 2, 2009.
  • "Everything I've heard is probably the stuff that's on the Internet, which is that [another] film has apparently been green-lit, which just means the financing has been approved, and that there's a fall shoot expectation, an October-November kind of thing probably, when Universe wraps. They want Martin Wood to direct it. They probably want Amanda in it, and her [Sanctuary] schedule probably goes through the fall as well. So that would make a lot of sense on a lot of levels, but there's nothing been confirmed, no contracts in place." — Michael Shanks, Sci Fi Wire, April 29, 2009.
