TEASER

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[The kino shows two alien animals grazing on the undergrowth; they are quadrupeds and multi-colored.]

SCOTT

(voice)

Wow, space deer.

PARK

(voice)

They're beautiful.

GREER

(voice)

They're going to look even more beautiful slow-roasted…

EXT—PLANET, DESTINY PERSONNEL CAMP, DAY

GREER

(voice)

…served up with a side of Becker's mash.

[Scott, Greer, Park and James are standing off to one side of the camp, watching the footage from the kino on a remote.]

PARK
You're not serious?

GREER
Ah, and how exactly would you cook them?

PARK
I wouldn't! I'm a vegetarian!

GREER

(horrified)

No!

JAMES
For the past ten months, we have all been vegetarian. I am dying for a steak.

SCOTT
I could use a steak.

PARK
No, you guys can't kill those creatures. And this has nothing to do with being a vegetarian. We don't know anything about them; they could be intelligent.

SCOTT
Ah, we just saw one of them eat its own vomit. How smart could they be?

[TJ comes over towards the group.]

TJ
Guys! I could use some help over here.

GREER

(to Park)

Okay, look. I'll tell you what. If they can give me one good reason why I shouldn't eat them, I won't.

[Scott and James are laughing.]

GREER

But it better be a good one, because I am mighty hungry.
(to Scott)

Lieutenant?

SCOTT
Let's do it.

[Greer and Scott walk off into the forest.]

PARK
Not cool.

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Greer and Scott are approaching the animals. They stop at a mound, and Greer gets one of the animals in his sight. He lifts his head and looks at it.]

SCOTT
Want me to take it?

GREER
No, no. I got it.

[He looks back through the sight, but the animals startle and run off.]

GREER
Damn!

SCOTT
What the heck happened?

GREER
Something must have spooked them.

SCOTT
Well, we've got plenty of time. You want to go after them?

GREER
Hell, yeah.

[They get up and start after the animals, but there is a roar from somewhere nearby.]

GREER
What was that?

SCOTT
Hang on.

[Scott takes the kino remote from his pocket and looks at the screen. They walk forward, looking at the kino footage. Suddenly, something jumps at the kino then at Scott. He is thrown some meters away. Greer aims at the creature.]

SCOTT
Shoot! Shoot it!

[Greer lowers his gun and the creature leaps at him, knocking him aside, then runs off through the forest.]

END TEASER

OPENING CREDIT

INT—DESTINY KINO ROOM

[Young, Scott, Greer and Chloe are watching the kino footage of the creature's attack on Scott and Greer.]

SCOTT

(on video)

Shoot it!

[The footage shows Greer being knocked to the ground.]

SCOTT

(on video)

It's heading for the camp!

GREER
By the time we got there, it was gone.

CHLOE
Was anybody hurt?

SCOTT
No fatalities, but plenty of injuries. And two missing. Reynolds and TJ.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Scott, Greer and Young are walking along the corridor.]

SCOTT
Permission to go after them, Sir.

YOUNG
Permission denied.

SCOTT
Sir, I know things may look bad, but there is still a chance that TJ and Reynolds could be alive down there.

YOUNG
Which is why we need to find them as fast as possible. I'm going to need you here, Lieutenant. While I'm gone, you're in charge. You got a problem with that?

SCOTT

(sighing)

No, Sir.

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

[Eli is inspecting some large containers. He opens one and finds Ancient equipment inside. Brody enters.]

BRODY
Hey! What are you doing?

ELI
Checking to see what's inside. Why? What does it look like I'm doing?

BRODY

(gesturing towards the door)

Come on.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Eli and Brody are walking along the corridor.]

ELI
I thought the whole point of exploring unexplored sections of the ship was to, well, explore them.

BRODY
We are.

ELI
Ha! Not really.

BRODY
Well, what can I say. Rush wants us to take a cautious approach.

ELI
Who cares what Rush thinks? He's not our boss.

BRODY
Pfft. You tell him that.

ELI
I will.

BRODY
No, you won't.

ELI
I am not afraid of him.

[They turn a corner and find Rush working at a panel in the wall by a closed door.]

RUSH
Afraid of whom?

ELI
Who. I think it's who. Afraid of who.

RUSH
Afraid not.

[Eli mouths the words "afraid of whom".]

BRODY
Hey, what have we got here?

RUSH
This is one of the last rooms in this section.

ELI
I'm guessing, more Ancient containers.

[Rush opens the door. The three men look in awe as they see the room with its walls lined with stasis pods.]

INT—DESTINY ARMORY

[James, Greer, Young and Marsden are preparing for the rescue mission.]

JAMES
I want to see them rescued as much as anyone, but we have to consider the possibility that they may already be dead.

SCOTT
We swept the area. If they were dead, why didn't we find the bodies?

JAMES
Maybe the creature dragged them away. Took them somewhere it wouldn't be disturbed.

[She picks up a gun.]

JAMES
Neither of them are responding to radio communications.

SCOTT
Well, maybe they're unconscious or their radios were lost or damaged. I don't know.

JAMES
All I'm saying is, we can hope for the best, as long as we're prepared for the worst.

YOUNG
You're right. Why don't you guys meet us at the 'gate.

[James and Marsden leave, followed by Scott. Greer, who is still preparing, remains with Young.]

YOUNG
You mind, uh, telling me what happened back there on the planet? You had the shot, you didn't take it. Why not?

GREER
I don't know.

YOUNG
If it's a moment of indecision, just one of those things, then you can drop it. But, if there is a problem, you need to find out what it is, and you need to fix it. Fast.

GREER
Yes, Sir.

[Greer walks away.]

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli, Rush are looking around the room.]

ELI
Stasis pods?

RUSH
Yeah. Obviously designed for lengthy intergalactic journeys.

[Brody comes in another door.]

BRODY
We've got multiple rooms exactly like this one going both ways.

RUSH
It's fascinating.

ELI
That's a bit of an understatement. This is huge.

RUSH
Agreed. Okay, let's leave it for now. Let's go.

[Rush starts to leave.]

ELI
What?! You can't be serious!

RUSH
Well, given recent events, it might be wise to check over the ship's data on this compartment before proceeding.

[Rush leaves. Eli and Brody remain.]

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Young, Greer, James and Marsden are walking through the forest, tracking the creature.]

YOUNG
Sergeant, hold up. I think-I think we lost its trail. We should double back.

GREER
But we need to keep moving forward.

YOUNG
Well, not if we're headed the wrong way.

GREER
Back the way we came is the wrong way. We keep moving forward, we'll pick up the trail again. Trust me.

YOUNG

(to James and Marsden)

Right, you guys check out the area, see if you can spot any tracks.

[James and Marsden move out and look on the ground nearby.]

YOUNG
Sergeant, what's up?

GREER
We're up against the clock here, Sir.

YOUNG
Which is why we can't afford to make any more mistakes. Listen to me, I know this is tearing you apart, but what's done is done. And you let guilt start dictating your actions, you're just asking for trouble. I don't know, maybe you needed more time to recuperate after surgery.

GREER
I'm fine, Sir.

YOUNG

Then get your head on straight.
(turning around)

James! Marsden.

[Young heads off, followed by James and Marsden. Geer looks in the direction they had been going before reluctantly following too.]

INT—DESTINY MESS

[The Lucian Alliance members are sitting together at a table, eating a meal. Still dirty and with facial scrapes, Scott enters and goes to get a drink of water from the dispenser. Varro gets up from the table and goes over to him.]

VARRO
Any updates from the planet?

SCOTT
They've, uh, lost the trail; they're doubling back.

VARRO
I'd like to volunteer to help with this rescue op.

SCOTT
Well, much appreciated, but Colonel Young and his team are more than capable of seeing this through.

VARRO
With all due respect, no, they're not. They have the training, but they lack the necessary experience. Me and my people have been hunting most of our lives. We can track this animal for you. We could do it better, faster than anyone you've got down there on the ground right now.

[Scott considers what Varro is saying.]

VARRO
When this is over, you're going to want to know that you did everything in your power to save them. Right?

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

[Park is lying in a bed. Chloe is sitting with her. There are some other personnel also in beds, including Morrison a few meters from Park.]

PARK
Well, it happened so fast. One minute, I was helping to catalogue plant samples and the next, I was on the ground and everyone was screaming.

[Volker enters and heads for Park's bed.]

VOLKER
Hey, I just heard.

MORRISON
Come to check up on us, huh?

VOLKER
Yeah, yeah, came to check up on you. Both. How are you?

MORRISON
Oh, in constant pain. I think my ankle's broken, every time I move—

VOLKER

Well, hang in there.
(to Park)

How about you?

PARK
According to the medical scan, a cracked rib.

MORRISON
Ha! I should be so lucky!

VOLKER

(ignoring Morrison)

How do you, ah, how do you treat a cracked rib?

CHLOE
You don't. Speaking from personal experience, snowboarding accident, you just take it easy. It'll heal itself in about a month.

VOLKER
A month? Okay, is there anything you need, anything I can do?

MORRISON
Yeah, could you take off my sock?

VOLKER
Are you serious, dude?

MORRISON
My foot's swelling up!

CHLOE
I'll get that for you.

[Chloe goes over to Morrison to help him. Volker comes and sits on the edge of Park's bed.]

PARK
Thanks for coming by.

VOLKER
Yeah, it was nothing. Rush had me up on the bridge running diagnostics.

[Park gives Volker's hand a squeeze.]

PARK
I really appreciate it.

[Volker looks uncomfortable and glances around nervously at Chloe.]

VOLKER
Yeah, well I, uh, just wanted to make sure you were all right.

EXT—PLANET, MOUNTAINSIDE, DAY

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[TJ is lying on the ground, battered and bruised and semi-conscious. Reynolds is sitting over her.]

REYNOLDS
Lieutenant. Lieutenant!

[TJ opens her eyes.]

REYNOLDS
Oh, thank God!

[TJ puts her hand to a contusion on her forehead and grunts in pain.]

TJ
Where are we?

[He helps her sit up.]

REYNOLDS
I don't know.

TJ
How did we get here?

REYNOLDS
That thing that attacked the camp, it took us here. We must have lost our sidearms in the commotion, your-your radio too. Here, I've got mine, but it's damaged.

[Reynolds hands TJ his radio. She takes out her flashlight and gets up to look around the cave.]

TJ
We have to get out of here.

[Reynolds tries to get up, but groans in pain.]

REYNOLDS
I can't put any weight on my leg. I think it might be broken.

[TJ comes over to inspect his leg.]

TJ
It could just be a fracture; hang tight.

[TJ goes to look around again.]

REYNOLDS
If this thing wanted to kill us, we'd be dead already so I, I figure that's a good thing, right? It wants us alive.

[TJ spots something off to one side of the cave.]

TJ
It's saving us.

REYNOLDS
Saving us? From what?

TJ
Not "from" anything. It's saving us for later.

[TJ is looking at a pile of animal bones.]

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Greer, James, Young and Marsden are in the forest.]

GREER
I don't like it.

YOUNG
Yeah, well you don't have to like it. Just pretend you do. Just until we get our people back.

JAMES
Here they come.

[Varro and the other five Lucian Alliance members come over a small rise.]

GREER
It's about time!

VARRO
We just wanted to check out the campsite.

YOUNG
We appreciate your help.

VARRO
Don't mention it. We're all in this together, right?

[Varro gestures to Tasia, one of the Lucian Alliance women, and she directs the others to search the area.]

VARRO
The fact that there's no significant blood at the campsite is a good sign. It suggests the creature wanted them alive.

JAMES
Why?

VARRO
Probably likes its meat fresh. Which means we've got to move quickly. The sooner we locate them, the better, because this rescue op has the potential to turn into a recovery mission real fast. Looks like it's going to get dark soon.

[Tasia sees something on the ground and gets down to take a closer look.]

TASIA
Here!

[Varro comes over to look.]

TASIA

Partial print there, (pointing)

and there. Heading off in that direction.

[The rescue teams move off in the direction she indicated.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Eli and Brody are walking along a corridor.]

ELI
You know, we finally unseal the new section, make the biggest discovery aboard the ship since the bridge, and now we're supposed to ignore it because Rush says so?

BRODY
Well, he wants to be cautious.

ELI
Since when is Rush cautious?

BRODY
Well, I guess having your consciousness trapped in a simulation will do that to you.

ELI
Screw this.

[Eli turns and walks back the way they had come.]

BRODY
Where are you going?

ELI
To check out the stasis pods. And don't tell on me, all right?

BRODY
Wait for me.

[Brody hurries after Eli.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[Reynolds is sitting on the ground. TJ walks towards the mouth of the cave.]

REYNOLDS
Wait, wait, wait, wait! Where are you going?

TJ
Relax, Corporal.

[TJ goes out the cave entrance, and Reynolds tries to get up.]

EXT—PLANET, CAVE MOUTH, DAY

[TJ steps out onto a wide ledge outside the cave. She looks around and sees that the cave is up high above the forest below.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[Reynolds is on his hands and knees.]

REYNOLDS
How does it look?

EXT—PLANET, CAVE MOUTH, DAY

TJ
Not good.

[She looks down and sees the creature stalking through the trees.]

TJ
That thing is still down there. It's guarding its lair.

[TJ goes back into the cave, where Reynolds is attempting to stand.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

TJ
And you're in no condition to make a run for it.

[TJ rushes over and helps Reynolds sit back down.]

REYNOLDS
Look, Lieutenant, please. I know you'd stand a better chance out there without me but I need—

TJ
Listen! I'm not leaving you behind. And when the time comes, I'm going to need your help. So I need you to calm down. You need to get it together, okay? Can you do that?

REYNOLDS
Yeah, yeah.

TJ
Okay.

[TJ picks up Reynolds' broken radio from the ground and pulls the back off it.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Volker is working at a console. Chloe enters.]

CHLOE
Oh, hey! I'm, ah, just on my way to the mess. Can I get you anything?

VOLKER
No, I'm good. Thank you. Hey, how's the, ah, search going?

CHLOE
Um, I-I don't know. I haven't heard anything since Varro and his team went down.

VOLKER
Well, let's hope that makes a difference.

CHLOE
Yeah. It's, um, times like these that really make you appreciate what you have. Who you have.

VOLKER
Yeah, for sure.

CHLOE
It's like, um, well, ah, having Matt has made such a difference.

[Chloe sits down while Volker continues to work.]

CHLOE

Knowing he's there for me no matter what. I'm really lucky to have that someone.
(pause)

So does Lisa know?

VOLKER
Know what?

CHLOE
How you feel about her.

[Volker looks at Chloe blankly. She stands up.]

CHLOE
I know it's probably none of my business, but I saw the way you two were together and—

VOLKER
We were…no, no, no Lisa, Lisa and I, we're just, it's strictly protof… professional, platonic, professionally platonic. We're not…

CHLOE
Ah, I'm sorry, I totally misread—

VOLKER

Oh, no, no, it's a simple mistake. No, that-that happens, you know, sometimes.
(pause)

You going to the mess hall?

CHLOE
Yes.

VOLKER
Yeah.

CHLOE
That's where I'm going.

VOLKER
Okay. Thank you.

[Chloe leaves and Volker resumes work.]

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli is looking at one of the open stasis pods' controls. Brody is in the pod.]

ELI
I'm just saying, recent events have made me put things in perspective. Like, who made him de facto leader?

BRODY
He did. He was lead scientist on Icarus.

ELI
Yet, I'm the one who solved the mystery of the ninth chevron.

BRODY
Yeah. Thanks for that.

[Eli smiles at the sarcasm.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is alone on the bridge, sitting in the command chair. He activates the console and sees data for the stasis room. He is aware that Eli and Brody are working in there and gives a wry smile.]

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli is looking at one of the open stasis pods' controls. Brody is in the pod.]

BRODY
So, what are you saying? You want to be lead scientist?

ELI
No. I just, I think it's time that we all had more of a say in the decisions that are being made. I'm tired of him deciding what's best for us.

[The door to the pod that Brody is standing in slides down.]

BRODY
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

ELI
Whoa! Hold on! I, I, whoa!

BRODY
Hey, hey!

[Brody is inside the closed chamber.]

BRODY

(through the door)

Thanks! Great. What did you do?

ELI
I didn't do anything! What did you—

BRODY
You accidentally pressed something. Now, hit the open button.

ELI
Oh, 'cause there's a…

[Eli presses buttons on the control panel, but instead of the door opening, the pod activates and fills with a gas. Eli frantically works at the controls.]

BRODY
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

ELI
I can't… oh, that can't be…

BRODY

(yelling)

Hey! Eli!

ELI
Hold on! Crap, I got it!

BRODY

(yelling)

Eli! What are you—

ELI
Ah, ah, maybe, can we—

[Brody is frozen in stasis. Eli looks nervously around the room.]

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, NIGHT

[The rescue team is walking through the forest, using flashlights to see where they are going. Tasia is leading.]

VARRO
You guys do much hunting back on Earth?

YOUNG
Not unless you count fishing.

VARRO
Well, growing up, my brother and I, we learned from my father. How to hunt, kill, but the most important things he taught us was respect for the wild.

GREER
There ain't nothing noble about this thing. It's a monster.

VARRO
Yeah, but unlike us, animals don't know hate. All they know is fear and hunger.

TASIA
Hey, I got something here! The tracks, ah, they just stop. Okay, there's been a lot of movement here.

[The creature leaps from the bushes, knocks Tasia to the ground and attacks the group. There is yelling and gunfire as it rushes through the group, knocking people flying. It runs off through the forest. Greer looks to see a Lucian Alliance member lying dead on the ground, covered in deep lacerations. He stands up and fires his weapon in the direction the creature went, then he runs after it. He stumbles over a tree root and gets up, turning to try to locate the sound of the creature. Varro comes up behind him, grabbing him.]

VARRO
Stop!

GREER
Get off me! We got it on the run; now's our chance.

VARRO
The hell we do! It'll draw you out, separate you from the group, then pick you off. What the hell do you think happened back there? It lead us to that spot, it waited for us; it's smart. All this time we've been hunting it, it's been hunting us.

[Varro turns and walks back towards the scene of the ambush. Three Alliance members lie dead on the ground. Varro and Tasia look around. Greer, meanwhile, is helping James, who has a dislocated shoulder. He stands over her and grips her hand and forearm.]

GREER
Are you ready?

JAMES
Do it!

[Greer pulls her arm, and her shoulder grinds back into place.]

GREER
Got it.

JAMES
Yeah.

[They sit for a moment.]

GREER
What?

JAMES
Why didn't you pull that trigger? There's no predicting how someone's going to react in a pressure situation. Panic sets in, people freeze, it happens. But not to you. Something got inside your head. What?

GREER
I think I died.

[They look at each other for a moment.]

GREER
After the kidney surgery, during the recovery there was a point where I woke up…to nothing. Couldn't hear, couldn't see, couldn't move. I was trapped in this darkness, you know, like nothing I have ever known.

JAMES

(sincerely)

You were scared. That's a normal reaction.

GREER
I've done some crazy things in my day; risked my life without even giving it a second though. No fear. But now… All I know is that darkness and the fact that I don't ever want to go back.

JAMES
TJ had you under some pretty heavy sedatives for that operation. They shut you down. Your brain was probably the first thing to wake up, and it just took the rest of your body a little while to catch up.

GREER
You think that's what it was?

JAMES
I can't claim to know for sure what death is, but I know in my heart it isn't that.

[Meanwhile, Varro is stitching a wound on Young's chest.]

VARRO
Now, this should do 'til you get back to the ship.

YOUNG
I'm not going back. I'm not giving up on my people.

VARRO
No one's giving up. You've just got to think this through. It won't take much for those stitches to open up. If you start bleeding out, then what? I'm sorry, but in your condition you're a liability to us. At best, you slow us down. At worst, you die. I'll get her back. You have my word.

[Young appears to be resigned to going back.]

TASIA
We need to get moving. We can come back, bury the bodies later.

[Varro helps Young to his feet. Young takes his sidearm from its holster.]

YOUNG
You listen to me. You bring her back safe.

[Young hands the gun to Varro, who nods.]

YOUNG
All right, let's, ah, let's go.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush arrives on the bridge. He takes out his radio.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Hello, Eli. Come in.

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli is working at the pod control, where Brody is still in stasis. He gets the radio out of his bag.]

ELI

(into radio)

Yeah?

RUSH

(over radio)

Good morning.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into radio)

Is Mister Brody with you?

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli laughs nervously and looks at the stasis pod containing Brody.]

ELI

(into radio, putting on Brody's voice)

Yep!

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush sits in the command chair and activates the console, where he sees the data for the stasis room.]

RUSH

(into radio)

You two are supposed to be in the control interface room running diagnostics. Where are you?

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

ELI

(into radio)

We're just grabbing something to eat.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into radio)

Yeah, well hurry up. I know it's not the most glamorous work, but it needs to be done.

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

ELI

(into radio, feigning casualness)

We'll finish up, be on our way.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush gives a wicked smile.]

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Tasia, Varro, Greer and Marsden are walking through the forest. They arrive at a small clearing surrounded by a slight rise.]

TASIA
Here?

VARRO
This is good.

GREER
Good for what? Why are we stopping?

VARRO
We've already established this creature is smart. It sees us as a threat, so it's stalking us. And sooner or later, it's going to try to ambush us again. But this time we'll be ready for it.

[Tasia takes two round devices from her bag, hands one to Varro and smiles at Greer as they go to position them.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[TJ is making a small fire.]

TJ
Here we go.

[Reynolds hauls himself to the fire. TJ checks her watch.]

REYNOLDS
How are we doing for time?

TJ
We've got six hours 'til Destiny jumps.

REYNOLDS
They wouldn't abandon us.

TJ
No. Not unless they think we're dead.

[She goes and picks up the radio.]

TJ
Which is why I really need to get this radio working.

[She starts poking around in the back of the radio with her knife.]

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

[Park is lying in her bed, asleep. Volker enters with a bowl of food and stands over her. She opens her eyes and he smiles.]

PARK
Were you watching me sleep?

VOLKER
No, no. I, no I, no I was just checking to see if you were, if you were awake, which you seemed not to be, but then now, then you are now.

[He shrugs, and she looks at him blankly.]

VOLKER
I brought you something to eat.

[He puts the bowl by her bed.]

PARK
Oh, that was sweet of you.

[Rush enters.]

RUSH
Doctor Park, how are you feeling?

[Park tries to sit up but winces in pain.]

PARK
Fine, thanks.

RUSH
How are you getting on with those calculations?

PARK
Oh yeah, I finished them.

[She picks up a notebook from by the bed and hands it to Rush, who takes it and flips through it.]

RUSH
Right.

VOLKER
I can't believe this. You're making her work? She's injured.

RUSH
Yes, her ribs. Not her brain.

PARK
Dale, I asked him to give me something to do. I'm going stir-crazy just sitting here.

RUSH

Good, good.
(to Volker)

I'll see you back on the bridge.

[Rush walks away.]

VOLKER
Yeah, I'm just going to finish up with my visit and then I'll—

RUSH
Hey, take your time.

[Rush leaves. Volker looks uncomfortably at Park.]

EXT—PLANET, CLEARING, DAY

[Varro is setting the round devices at the perimeter of the clearing. Greer is keeping watch.]

GREER

(into radio)

Anything?

MARSDEN

(over radio)

Nothing.

TASIA

(over radio)

Not yet.

GREER
I got a bad feeling that this is a mistake, and while we're sitting here, that thing is putting as much distance between us as possible.

VARRO
No, the creature knows we're hunting it, so it needs to protect its lair. To do that, it has to make sure we never reach it.

GREER
Makes sense. You know, but if you're wrong about this, don't count on making it back to the ship.

VARRO
You don't think I want to save them?

GREER

Yeah.
(laughs)

I'm sure you do.

VARRO
You look like you've got more to say.

GREER
Well, whatever you have in mind for you and TJ, you can forget about it, you know? 'Cause that's not happening.

VARRO
Why don't we let her decide that.

TASIA

(over radio)

Varro.

VARRO

(into radio)

Go ahead, Tasia.

TASIA

(over radio)

It's on the move and headed your way.

[Greer and Varro look at each other to acknowledge the message.]

GREER
Here we go.

[They hear a roar in the forest and both take aim in the direction from which the sound came.]

GREER

Come on. Come on. I'm right here.
(yelling)

I'm right here!

[The creature appears over the rise and rushes at Greer and Varro, but it steps on one of the explosive devices laid earlier and is destroyed. Tasia comes running.]

TASIA
Did you get it?

GREER
Oh, yeah.

TASIA
All right. We should get moving. In a few hours, it's going to start to get dark—

[Suddenly, Tasia is grabbed and dragged back, screaming, into the bushes. Marsden appears on another edge of the clearing and is about to fire when he, too, is grabbed and dragged into the bushes. Greer and Varro hear more roars from the bushes around them.]

VARRO
There are more of them out there.

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Later, Greer and Varro are walking through the forest.]

GREER
Following their trail's gotten way too easy. It's almost as if they're daring us to come after them.

VARRO
They're luring us in to finish us off.

GREER
The thing that attacked us back at the camp is bigger than the one's we're tracking now.

VARRO
These tracks are smaller; these are the babies. We're getting close to their lair. The fact that we're dealing with more than one of these things reduces our chances of finding our people alive.

GREER
Are you saying you're having second thoughts? Because you know I can do this on my own.

VARRO
Oh, no you can't. Hell, I don't even think we can do this together, but I'm going to see this through. Besides, this close to the nest, we're past the point of no return.

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[Reynolds and TJ are sitting by the fire. TJ is working on fixing the radio while Reynolds sharpens a long stick into a spear.]

REYNOLDS
The thing's too big. Too strong. I can't stand the thought of being eaten alive. The time comes, if I don't have the guts to do it myself…

TJ
What are you saying, Corporal?

REYNOLDS
I'm saying I don't want to die like that! I'd rather you finish me off first.

[TJ gets up, goes over to him and grabs him by the shirt-front.]

TJ
Hey, hey. You listen to me! Now, you have two choices. You can suck it up and walk back on the Destiny with your head held high, or you can force me to save your sorry ass and live with the shame. Is that understood?

REYNOLDS
Yes, Ma'am.

[TJ lets go of him and goes back to the radio. She puts the back cover on and switches it on. They hear static.]

TJ

(into radio)

Ah, this is, this is Lieutenant Johansen, over. Is there anyone out there?

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Varro and Greer are walking through the forest.]

VARRO
You remind of someone I used to run ops with. First one into a firefight, last one to leave enemy territory. He was fearless. He ended up volunteering for what you'd call a suicide mission. He wasn't afraid. Turns out, he should have been. He was wrong. In those situations, when the odds are stacked against you and you're looking death in the face, it's fear that keeps you and the people around you alive.

TJ

(over radio)

This is Lieutenant Johansen.

GREER

(into radio)

This is Greer, over.

TJ

(over radio)

Sergeant?!

GREER

(into radio)

Lieutenant! What's your situation?

TJ

(over radio)

Ah, ah, Corporal Reynolds…

EXT—PLANET, CAVE MOUTH, DAY

[TJ comes out of the cave.]

TJ

(into radio)

…and I are in a cave on the side of a hill overlooking a ravine, somewhere north of camp. The creature that attacked us, it brought us here and it appears to be guarding its territory, so approach with extreme caution.

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

TJ

(over radio)

The Corporal is injured and in no condition to make a run for it.

GREER

(into radio)

Hang tight, Lieutenant. We're coming for you.

[Greer and Varro move out.]

EXT—PLANET, CAVE MOUTH, DAY

[TJ laughs with relief.]

TJ

(into radio)

Copy.

[She goes back inside the cave.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is sitting in the command chair. Volker enters.]

VOLKER
Sorry. Lost track of time.

RUSH
Yeah, well I'm not surprised. You two obviously enjoy each other's company.

VOLKER
I'm not sure if you've meant anything by that, but you should know, there's nothing going on between me and Park.

RUSH

(smirking)

Of course not.

VOLKER
What do you mean, "Of course not"? You, you say it like it could never happen.

RUSH
Well, it couldn't.

VOLKER
Okay, I get it. Because she's so…attractive and I'm, and I'm not?

RUSH
No. No, no, no, no. Let's, let's just say that you don't seem like the romantic type.

VOLKER
Oh, really? Okay, well then, ah, what type am I?

RUSH
The good friend type, obviously. The trusted confidante. The guy who's always there with the, ah, the shoulder to cry on. And that's just life, I'm afraid. we all have our predestined roles. But you know, on the bright side, a life free of romantic entanglement, well, it certainly benefits the pursuit of science.

[Volker smiles somewhat bitterly and turns to face his console.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Eli and Chloe are running along the corridor.]

CHLOE
Seriously. Eli, I don't have time for this. They need me in the infirmary. Colonel Young and Lieutenant James just got back, they're injured.

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Chloe follows Eli into the room and sees Brody in the stasis pod.]

CHLOE
What did you do?

ELI
I didn't do anything. He did this to himself. He was just in there pushing buttons—

CHLOE
Is he okay?

ELI
Yes. According to the monitoring system, he's fine, just…frozen.

CHLOE
Well, did, did you tell Rush?

ELI
Oh, no, no, no, no. And we're not going to. Not yet, anyway. Just for once, I'd like to solve a problem without his help.

CHLOE
Eli, you have to get him out of there.

ELI
I know! Which is why you're here. You still have some of that residual alien knowledge, right?

CHLOE
Eli—

ELI
Just do me a favor. Take a look. See if anything jumps out at you.

[Chloe looks at the control screen.]

CHLOE
Um.

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Varro and Greer are moving through the forest. They come to stop at a clearing where they look up at the mountainside.]

VARRO
That's got to be it.

[They step away into the cover of the trees.]

VARRO
I'll go first, scout out the area. If it's clear, I'll radio back.

GREER
I don't think so.

[Varro won't look at him.]

GREER
If you've got something to say, say it.

VARRO
I don't think you're up for this.

GREER
Are you calling me a coward?

VARRO
No, you're not a coward, but you're second guessing yourself and that's a problem. We don't have time for you to sort through whatever issues you're dealing with, so I'm going.

GREER

(determined)

No, I'm going. I'm going to need you to, ah, create a little diversion for me.

[Greer takes a block of C4 explosive from his vest pocket and hands it to Varro.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[Reynolds is still by the fire sharpening a stick. Another stick is leaning on the rock nearby.]

TJ
We're going to be okay. They're almost here.

[The creature growls just outside the cave. As is slowly enters, Reynolds and TJ raise their spears in readiness.]

TJ
Are you ready, Corporal?

REYNOLDS
Yes, Ma'am.

TJ
Aim for its eyes.

[The creature positions itself in front of TJ and Reynolds. It looks at the fire. Suddenly, there is an explosion outside the cave and the creature turns to face the entrance.]

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[On hearing the explosion, Greer moves out of his position. Elsewhere in the forest, Varro is running. He hears numerous creatures growling.]

INT—PLANET, CAVE

[The creature turns back and looks from TJ to the fire. Greer arrives at the cave mouth, his weapon at the ready.]

GREER
Lieutenant!

[The creature turns to face Greer.]

TJ
Don't shoot!

GREER
What?!

TJ
I don't think it wants to hurt us.

GREER
I've got the shot, Ma'am.

TJ
No, the fire. It recognizes intelligence.

GREER
Didn't stop it from trying to kill us.

TJ
That's because you were a threat to it and its family.

GREER
It recognizes a threat and goes after it. That's what I was counting on out there to buy us some time. So I suggest that you start moving. Slowly.

[TJ lowers her spear and holds out her hand to Reynolds.]

TJ
Let's go.

[Reynolds limps over to TJ and she helps him to the mouth of the cave. Greer and the creature are still facing one another.]

GREER
It's intelligent. Smart enough to know that I can cause it a world of hurt, maybe even kill it. Smart enough to know that I'm choosing not to.

[Greer lowers his weapon. The creature steps closer to him, regards him for a moment then backs away.]

GREER
Let's go.

[TJ helps Reynolds out, followed by Greer.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is in the command chair, looking at the console.]

RUSH

(to himself)

Ah, well.

[He operates some controls on the console.]

INT—DESTINY STASIS ROOM

[Eli is pacing, watching Chloe looking at the stasis pod controls.]

ELI
So?

CHLOE
I don't know. I'm not seeing—

[Suddenly, the pod deactivates, the door slides up, and Brody is reanimated.]

BRODY
—doing?

[Brody steps out of the pod.]

BRODY
What the hell?

[They all breathe a sigh of relief.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush looks at the command chair's console screen.]

RUSH
That's that, then.

[Volker enters and goes to his console.]

VOLKER
What's what?

RUSH
Oh, I've just completed a thorough diagnostic on one of the stasis pods. Very informative.

EXT—PLANET, FOREST, DAY

[Greer and TJ are helping Reynolds through the forest. Greer hears a noise off to one side, pulls out his sidearm and aims it, but it's Varro.]

GREER
How many of things you take down?

VARRO
About none. But I managed to lose them and circle back. I feel like I could sleep for a week.

[Greer stops them walking.]

GREER
Whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa.

[Just ahead of them is one of the deer-like animals, grazing. It and Greer eye each other.]

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

INT—DESTINY, VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Varro goes to the door and opens it to find TJ there. He gestures for her to come in.]

TJ
Congratulations. I hear you're a free man.

[Varro closes the door and approaches TJ.]

VARRO
Apparently, someone put in a good word or me with Colonel Young.

TJ
Well, as much as I'd like to take credit, I really haven't had any time.

VARRO
I know. It was, um, Sergeant Greer.

TJ

(surprised)

Greer?

VARRO
Uh huh. I'd love to thank him but, um, I get the feeling he'll claim he doesn't know what I'm talking about.

TJ

Yeah, probably.
(pause)

Listen, I just wanted to come by and say I'm sorry, about your people. And even though you may feel like you're alone, you're not.

VARRO
I know.

[Varro steps towards TJ, puts his hand on her face and leans to kiss her. They are stopped by a knock on the door. Varro goes to open it and finds Young outside. Young looks from Varro to TJ.]

VARRO
Come in.

[TJ looks at Young sympathetically. Young steps into the room.]

YOUNG
You had said you wanted to lend your expertise to tonight's dinner? Becker's ready.

[Varro nods and walks out. Young closes his eyes and swallows before turning to TJ.]

YOUNG
You, ah, you okay?

TJ
I'm good.

YOUNG
Good.

[Young walks out; TJ sits down and sighs.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is in the command chair. Brody and Eli are at another console.]

RUSH
That completes this round of diagnostics. Now we can move onto the fun part.

[Rush gets up to leave.]

ELI
Fun part?

RUSH
Yeah, well it's time to go and check out the stasis chambers now.

BRODY
Whoa, ah, whoa. Ah, not so fast.

ELI
Yeah, let's finish going through the data on that section before we start getting in there and pushing buttons.

RUSH
Yeah, of course you're right. Proceed with caution.

[Eli and Brody nod. Rush walks out with a smile on his face.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Volker is walking along the corridor to the infirmary. He is wearing a vest and has a small posy of flowers in his hand. He gets to the doorway and looks in to see Greer sitting on Park's bed. They are laughing and talking together, touching each other romantically. Volker looks hurt, turns and leaves.]

INT—DESTINY MESS

[There is a sign on the water dispenser that reads, "Becker's BBQ". A number of personnel are there, and there is an animal roasting on a spit. Everyone appears to be happy and enjoying themselves.]
