INT—DESTINY GATE ROOM

[Holding a radio, Kiva paces nervously. TJ cares for an injured man, and Telford looks intently around.]

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

[Young speaks to Kiva while Scott and Wray prepare duffel bags and suit cases of medical supplies. Rush watches.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

This is Young. We've got the medical supplies you requested. We are prepared to give them to you as a show of good faith.

KIVA

(over radio)

Thank you.

YOUNG

(into radio)

One condition. You and I meet to make the exchange.

INT—DESTINY GATE ROOM

KIVA

(into radio)

Agreed.

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

YOUNG
Let's do this.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats stationary in space.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[The group makes its way toward the Gate Room. Soldiers now accompany Young, Wray, and Scott.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Brody.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Brody stands by at an Ancient terminal.]

BRODY

(into radio)

Ready.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young and the squad gather around the corner from the hatch that is nearest the Gate Room. Wray appears nervous and reluctant. Greer is dressed in civilian clothing and is carrying all the medical supplies.]

YOUNG

(to Scott)

Now, remember quick kills, center mass hit.

SCOTT
Yes, sir.

YOUNG
All right.

[Young and Greer move forward toward the hatch.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

You ready to do this?

INT—GATE ROOM

KIVA

(into radio)

We're ready.

KIVA

(to Dannic)

Bring the medic.

[Dannic grabs TJ and moves her roughly toward the hatch down the corridor. Telford steps forward as if about to protect her, then stops himself.]

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG

(into radio)

Open the door.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody pushes a button to open the door.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[The hatch opens, revealing Young and Greer standing there. They meet Dannic, who looks past them and sees no one else.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

I'm in.

[The hatch closes and locks behind them. Dannic gestures at a tee-corridor, and TJ appears, followed by Kiva and one of her men.]

KIVA

(referring to Greer)

Who's this?

YOUNG
Ronald Greer is also a medic.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Behind the door at Young's back, Scott moves his men forward quietly.]

KIVA
Another offer of good faith?

YOUNG
In exchange for Lieutenant Johansen.

KIVA

First things first.
(to TJ)

Go and check the supplies and see they're what you need.

[She walks to Greer and starts looking through one of the bags. She makes eye contact with Young and shakes her head "no". She takes all the supplies from Greer and moves back slowly toward Kiva. The ship's lights start to flicker. Kiva's men raise their weapons just as Greer does.]

YOUNG
Hold your fire!

KIVA
Don't shoot!

[The lights go out completely.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

BRODY

No, no, no, no!
(to Rush)

Power just went out throughout the whole ship!

RUSH
I can see that, Mr. Brody. Please step aside.

[Rush steps up to the console.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[The stand-off continues.]

YOUNG
TJ, get behind me.

KIVA
She takes one step in your direction, and I will shoot her myself.

GREER

(aiming at Kiva)

I've got the shot, sir.

END TEASER

OPENING CREDITS

INT—CORRIDOR

KIVA

My men have been ordered to execute the prisoners if I am killed.
(to TJ)

Step back in my direction.

[She steps back. Kiva's men grab her and push her behind them. Kiva has her weapon raised at Greer.]

GREER
Sir, I've got the shot.

YOUNG
Stand down, Sergeant.

[The lights flicker back on as Kiva backs up around the corridor and goes back to the Gate Room.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[The hatch opens again. Scott, James and the others rush in with weapons raised to find the Lucian Alliance members gone.]

YOUNG
Dammit.

[He walks past Scott and back down the corridor.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Kiva and the others come in, Kiva very agitated.]

TELFORD
What happened?

KIVA
They surprised us.

TELFORD
What do you mean?

[Without warning or even looking, she shoots one of the Destiny crewmen in the heart.]

KIVA
They surprised us. Do you want me to explain it again?

TELFORD

(shouting)

The hostages are useless to us if they're dead!

KIVA

(angry)

At least they serve a purpose.

[She turns and hands her radio to TJ.]

KIVA
Tell them…Tell them!

[A crewman indicates the man Kiva shot is dead.]

TJ

(into radio)

Colonel.

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG

(into radio)

I'm here.

INT—GATE ROOM

TJ

(into radio)

She just killed Rivers.

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG

(into radio, somberly)

Understood.

INT—GATE ROOM

[Kiva grabs the radio back storms away from TJ.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli and Chloe rest on the floor, sitting against a pillar.]

ELI
Hey. Don't fall asleep. It's dangerous.

CHLOE
That's a concussion.

ELI
Okay, then it's boring.

[They chuckle. She lays her head on his shoulder.]

CHLOE
So, what do you think they'll do with them?

ELI
Who?

CHLOE
The prisoners.

ELI
Probably drop 'em off on some planet. I don't-I don't know.

CHLOE
I just hope everyone's okay.

ELI
I just hope it's over. Well, not much we can do about it. So, rest time is over.

[He slowly gets up, then picks her up into his arms again.]

ELI
Ah, this feels familiar.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young storms in. Park has joined Rush, Volker, and Brody.]

YOUNG
What the hell just happened?

VOLKER
We still don't know.

PARK
We're just getting systems back on line, then maybe we can analyze exactly what—

YOUNG

(shouting)

Screw analyze. Fix it!

BRODY
We've got to know what's broken first.

YOUNG

(shouting)

Do it now!

[Everyone stands in stunned silence. Young takes a step and a breath.]

YOUNG
Rivers is dead.

PARK

(shocked)

What?

RUSH

(quiet)

Well, it was going to be someone.

[After a shocked moment, Young rushes at Rush. Volker and Brody fight to hold him back.]

VOLKER AND BRODY
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

RUSH
Or would you prefer it was Chloe, or Eli? Lt. Johansen, perhaps? Don't bloody tell me you weren't thinking the same thing.

YOUNG

(pointing at Rush)

I want you to figure out what's wrong with this ship and fix it. Fix it now.

[Brody and Volker back off from Young, and Young leaves.]

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

[TJ treats Varro on a makeshift table-top set on top of some barrels. The storage room is in the Lucian "territory" of the ship.]

KOZ
I have orders to help.

TJ
What's your name?

KOZ
Koz.

TJ
I'll let you know what I need.

INT—GATE ROOM

[Lucian Alliance men drag Rivers's body out of the Gate Room. Telford and Kiva exchange looks.]

INT—DESTINY MESS HALL

[Wray talks to Young.]

WRAY
You do know there is a way to save them? You're just not wired to consider it.

YOUNG
I'm not surrendering this ship.

WRAY

(with irony)

And what exactly is so wonderful about it?

YOUNG
We give up, she kills everyone, except for those who have value to her. And let me tell you, that's not a hell of a lot of people.

INT—GATE ROOM

KIVA

(into radio)

Colonel.

INT—MESS HALL

[The scene switches between the Mess Hall and the Gate Room as the three speak over the radio.]

YOUNG
This is Young.

KIVA
I would like to speak to the civilian.

[Young hands his radio to Wray, who appears reluctant to take it.]

WRAY
This is Camile Wray.

KIVA
Colonel Young has proved that he cannot be trusted. Can you?

WRAY
Yes.

KIVA
Then why did you let them plan an ambush?

WRAY
I voiced my disagreement.

KIVA
And you could not stop them?

WRAY
No, obviously not.

KIVA
For that, one of your men was killed. If you fail to live up to your promise twice, I will kill again. Do you understand?

WRAY
No, I don't understand, but I do believe you.

KIVA
Then I would like to take you up on your initial offer, with one modification. Four of your men for four of ours, and food and water for three days.

WRAY
Will food and water be offered to the hostages?

KIVA
They're no good to me dead.

WRAY
Then we're agreed.

[Wray gives her radio back to Young, then throws up her hands as if very stressed.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Telford has joined Kiva.]

KIVA
Next time, we take supplies with us in the first wave.

TELFORD
If there is a next time.

[The ship's lights start to flicker again.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[TJ is working to remove the bullet from Varro.]

TJ

Dammit!
(to Koz)

Flashlight! Flashlight!

[Koz shines a flashlight on Varro.]

KOZ
What's happening?

TJ

(irritated)

Well, I don't know, Koz. I'm up to my wrists in someone's body right now.

[In the Gate Room and storage room, the lights come back on. TJ removes the bullet from Varro's shoulder. She presses bandages to the wound and sighs deeply.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young returns holding a tray of food and drink, which he distributes.]

YOUNG
Do we have any answers yet?

RUSH
Just the one.

BRODY
Every crash has been exactly forty-six minutes, thirty-seven point four seconds apart.

YOUNG
So?

VOLKER
It'll be easier to show you. Brody?

[Brody activates a large display that shows two suns orbiting each other, with Destiny in orbit about them.]

YOUNG
Okay, so what am I-what am I looking at?

RUSH
That's our problem. It's a binary pulsar.

VOLKER
It's the combination of rotating neutron star and probably a white dwarf orbiting around a single point in space.

YOUNG
What does-what does that mean to us?

VOLKER
Pulsars give off gamma radiation and x-rays as they rotate. Short, deadly bursts of ionized radiation.

BRODY
The shield and the hull are protecting us right now.

VOLKER
Right, but the pulsar is literally feeding off of the white dwarf, stripping off material and creating an accretion disc.

PARK
And the white dwarf ploughs through that material every orbit.

VOLKER
Which gives off an even bigger gamma ray burst on top of what we're already getting hit with, and that's why our systems are shutting down. The shield has to draw extra power in order to compensate.

RUSH
And that happens every forty-six minutes, thirty-seven point four seconds. It's what's killed that man, and it's going to be what kills us.

BRODY
The Lucian Alliance just happened to dial in when the damned thing was in range. The Destiny had to drop out of FTL to make the connection. It's bad timing, bad luck.

YOUNG
Well, then why are we still here?

PARK
Our FTL capability has been compromised.

YOUNG
Compromised?

PARK

(heading him off)

Don't yell. We don't know why yet.

RUSH
The shield is what's keeping us alive, but sooner or later it's going to fail. And when it does…

YOUNG
We're dead.

RUSH
Yeah.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny moves through space.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Wray explains the situation to Kiva.]

[The scene switches between the Mess Hall and the Gate Room.]

WRAY
The radiation burst is what's causing the system malfunctions.

KIVA
Which will only get worse.

WRAY
Because the shield will fail eventually, yes. Unless we can find a way to make the jump to FTL.

KIVA
How much time?

WRAY
According to Rush, we can withstand two more of the bursts. People will start dying by the third.

TELFORD
We saw what one of those bursts did to a man when he wasn't protected by the ship's hull.

KIVA
First we'll make the trade, and then we'll discuss this new problem.

INT—GATE ROOM

KIVA
Has their medic completed Varro's surgery?

DANNIC
Not yet.

KIVA

(annoyed)

Well then, find out what's taking so long.

TELFORD
I'll do it.

[Telford puts a pistol in his belt and rushes out.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[TJ is sewing up Varro's wound while Koz looks on. Telford arrives.]

TELFORD
Lieutenant, she told me to check on your progress.

TJ
Tell her it'd be a hell of a lot faster if the damned lights didn't keep going off.

TELFORD
Well, that's a whole other problem. The Destiny came out of FTL within range of a pulsar.

[TJ looks at him in shock.]

TELFORD
We don't have much time before the shield fails. Colonel Young and his people are trying to solve it, but…

TJ
She won't let them.

TELFORD
I'll do my best to convince her.

TJ
You do that.

[Telford leaves. TJ continues, Koz looking on nervously.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Becker prepares food supplies for the exchange.]

WRAY

(into radio)

Lt. Scott? We've got the supplies that they requested, and we're ready to make the prisoner exchange.

INT—NEAR DESTINY BRIG

SCOTT

(into radio)

Copy that.

[Scott and his men release the four Lucian prisoners from the makeshift brig and walk them toward the exchange point.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[While working on Varro, TJ gets a pain in her abdomen and starts to collapse, but recovers herself. Koz rushes over.]

TJ
I'm fine. I'm fine.

KOZ
And Varro?

TJ
I've done all I can for him.

[She takes off her gloves and walks out.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[The Lucian troops prepare their weapons. TJ and Koz enter.]

KIVA
Will he live?

TJ
I got the bullet out and stopped the bleeding, so he should have a chance. I'd like to take a look at the other wounded.

KIVA
Fine.

[She goes to a Destiny solder who is wounded.]

TJ
Let's go.

[She takes him away.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Becker finishes putting the food supplies into plastic crates.]

WRAY
You got it?

[Scott enters.]

SCOTT
Camile? Camile. Uh…

[He holds up a flak vest.]

WRAY
What's this?

[She takes it.]

SCOTT
A flak vest. Just in case.

WRAY
How can I expect them to trust me if I can't even demonstrate a willingness to trust them in turn?

SCOTT
All due respect, ma'am, I don't think they can be trusted.

WRAY

(giving it back to him)

You tell Colonel Young I appreciate his concern.

SCOTT

(smiling)

Yeah, the Colonel said you wouldn't take it. I just thought I'd try anyway.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer and Young wait near the hatch.]

GREER
Are you sure about this, sir?

YOUNG
No.

GREER
Good enough for me.

[Camile, Scott, some Destiny crew, and the prisoners arrive. The prisoners are carrying the supplies.]

YOUNG

(to Camile)

Hope you make a better impression than I did.

[The walk to the bulkhead hatch.]

WRAY

(into radio)

Commander Kiva, are you ready?

KIVA

(over radio)

We are.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Brody, open it.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody pushes the button.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[The hatch opens. The Destiny group moves forward. Again Dannic is waiting to meet them.]

WRAY

(to Scott)

Lieutenant. Thank you. I'll take it from here.

[The walk to Dannic, leaving Scott and the others beyond the doorway.]

WRAY

(into radio)

Okay Mr. Brody.

[The hatch closes behind them. Dannic gestures, and Kiva comes around the corner with two civilians and one Destiny soldier.]

WRAY
I asked for civilians.

KIVA
These are the two we had.

WRAY
We agreed on four-for-four.

[Dannic and another Lucian drag Rivers's body forward. Wray gasps and steps back in shock.]

KIVA
Four.

WRAY
What about Lieutenant Johansen?

KIVA
She stays.

WRAY
Even if we figure out a way to jump back into FTL — and right now the odds are not good—

KIVA
Then we'll be right back where we started.

WRAY
Yes, but this doesn't have to end with one of us losing. If we could just figure out a way to work with each other then maybe we could—

KIVA
I can see that you're someone who enjoys talking through problems, but if you don't solve this new one, then neither of us will have anything to talk about.

[Kiva gestures, and the prisoners exchange places. The Lucians leave, and the hatch closes behind them. Wray is nearly crying.]

WRAY

(into radio)

Brody.

[The hatch behind her opens. Scott enters.]

SCOTT
All right, get in the infirmary. Where's Chloe and Eli?

WRAY
She said they were the only two civilians.

SCOTT
Then where the hell are they?

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli and Chloe make their way slowly. Eli grunts as he carries her. He accidentally lets her injured leg hit a door frame. She cries out in pain.]

ELI
Oh! Sorry, sorry, sorry.

CHLOE
Oh. Take a break, Eli.

ELI
No, no, no, no, no, no. We've got to be getting close by now. You know what? We should do this twice a week. This is the kind of exercise that really motivates me. Carrying a wounded person the length of the whole ship? In low oxygen? Good times.

CHLOE
Thank you, Eli.

ELI

(laughing)

Wait 'til it's your turn to carry me!

CHLOE
You're an amazing friend.

ELI
You can never have too many of those, unless you're one of those people on Facebook who just accepts everybody's Friend request.

[As he's talking he sets her down on the floor near a door.]

ELI
It's like, come on, you know, be a little selective.

[He pushes the button to open the door. Suddenly air starts rushing out of the room into the vacuum area on the other side. They both hold on to the structure to keep from being sucked through.]

CHLOE
Eli!

[Eli manages to pull himself back to the button and push it. He falls to the floor as the wind tunnel effect stops.]

ELI
Dammit! Sorry. Sorry.

CHLOE
It's okay.

ELI
Are you okay?

CHLOE
I'm okay.

CHLOE
Yeah. Sorry.

[He takes her hand.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Scott is talking to the freed prisoners.]

SCOTT
Okay, thanks.

[He steps out to talk to Greer.]

SCOTT
Yeah, there's no sign of Eli or Chloe.

GREER
You know, maybe they're—

SCOTT
There's no fatalities on our side except for Rivers.

GREER
They must be hiding somewhere.

SCOTT
I hope so.

GREER
Look, that boy would take a bullet before he'd let them touch a hair on her head… Lieutenant, don't get distracted.

SCOTT
I'm not, I'm not. I just, uh, I just wanna get this done with.

GREER

And I wish the Colonel would give the word so that we can go in there and properly resolve the situation.
(patting Scott on his abdomen as he talks)

Look, he'll do the right thing when the right time comes. You gotta trust that, one hundred percent.

SCOTT
I don't know how you do it, man.

GREER
Well, you need to learn.

[Greer gives him a hard look and walks away.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[Varro is conscious and sitting up now. TJ is treating Riley's head wound.]

VARRO
Thank you.

TJ
Your commander already showed her appreciation by not killing me.

VARRO
Must be difficult to be forced to save the life of your enemy.

TJ
No. I would have done it anyway.

TJ
How's the pain?

VARRO
Bearable. Look, I'm trying to say—

TJ

(sternly)

I don't really care. I've been on my feet for far too long, and I have other patients, so excuse me.

[Varro looks at TJ for a moment and seems disappointed.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli and Chloe rest. Chloe is very pale.]

ELI
Conserving air, or unconscious?

CHLOE
Just thinking.

ELI
About what?

CHLOE
I used to think I had a lot of friends, but I don't.

ELI
They're a billion light years away, but they're still your friends.

CHLOE
No, they don't really care about me, and I don't really care about them, either.

ELI
That's nice.

CHLOE
No, no, because until I met you, I didn't really know what a friend was. Do you know what I mean, Eli?

ELI
No.

CHLOE
A friend is someone who will support you no matter what…like you.

ELI

(uncomfortable)

Chloe, why don't we, uh…

CHLOE
And I-I'm not just saying that because I feel like I'm gonna pass out. And even if I do, I just wanna say it first.

ELI
And you did, so—

CHLOE
But whenever I say stuff like that to you, you always react like I've just awarded you some runner-up prize…

[He finally looks at her.]

CHLOE
And it's not.

ELI
I know. It's-it's just that…

CHLOE

(crying)

I know.

ELI

(laughing gently)

Of course you do.

[He notices something.]

ELI
Hey. There's a console over there.

[He gets up and goes to it.]

ELI
Didn't notice that when we came in. And it's got power!

CHLOE
Can you call for help?

ELI
I can try.

EXT—SPACE

[The pulsar impacts Destiny again, bathing it in white light from above.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The lights are coming back on. Rush realizes something.]

RUSH
Dr. Park. Look, it's not much of a solution, but we don't have to shield the entire ship.

YOUNG
Just the side facing the pulsar, right?

RUSH
Right.

PARK
We'll have to leave some shielding on the underside of the ship, but we should be able to transfer something like ninety percent.

RUSH
Should buy us enough time to restore FTL capability.

WRAY
So, why haven't you guys done it yet?

BRODY
Because it can't be done from inside the ship.

VOLKER
Well, it could if we had control of the core systems, but we don't, so—

RUSH
No-no-no-no. Look-look, someone's going to have to go for a walk.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Rush walks with Scott, Young, and Greer.]

RUSH
I can tell you where to go, what to do. The mechanics of it are relatively simple.

GREER
Yeah, well, then, why don't you put on a space suit and do it?

RUSH
Well, uh, you get the FTL drive back on line while I'm gone and you get a deal.

SCOTT
We'll get it done, sir.

YOUNG
I know you will. Gear up.

INT—GEAR-UP ROOM

[Scott and Greer start putting on the space suits.]

INT—GATE ROOM INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Kiva listens to Wray explain what is going on.]

[The scene switches between the Gate Room and the Control Room.]

WRAY
They have only the time between the gamma ray bursts to complete their work. The next one is less than twenty minutes from now, so obviously time is an issue.

KIVA
So what do you need from us?

WRAY
There's a hull breach in the access corridor that's under your control. It's the exit point closest to the array. We need you to let us in.

KIVA
Transfer control of all the ship's systems to us, and…we will let them in.

WRAY
You do understand that if you don't help us save this ship, we will all die.

KIVA
Oh, I understand completely, and I want you to transfer the ship's systems to us.

EXT—SPACE

INT—CORRIDOR IN LUCIAN-CONTROLLED AREA

[Telford arrives and finds guards standing outside the hatch that leads to the area where their man died from the radiation.]

TELFORD
When was the last time you ran a security sweep in there?

[They don't react.]

TELFORD
Never mind. I'll do it. Radio.

[He takes a radio from one of the guards.]

TELFORD

(into radio)

Calvos, this is Telford. Give me access to the damaged section.

[He gives the radio back. The hatch opens. Telford goes inside and through the doorway they had created earlier. He finds the radio he had left there.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG

(to Camile)

You tell me you think she's bluffing.

RUSH

(scoffing)

Oh, she doesn't have to. She knows who she's dealing with. But to be fair, you don't have much of a choice. At least they'll keep some of us alive, for a while, anyway.

WRAY

(sarcastic)

Yeah, like you.

RUSH
You forget I've recently been in their employment. I wouldn't envy me just yet.

[Young's radio sounds with three pulses of static.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

David?

[The conversation switches between the Control Room and the corridor where Telford is.]

TELFORD

(into radio)

Yeah, Everett.

YOUNG

(into radio)

It's about damned time.

TELFORD

(into radio)

Listen, do it. Transfer control of the ship and surrender yourselves. Everyone but Rush and Brody. Have them retreat to one of the auxiliary control rooms.

YOUNG

(into radio)

They're gonna notice Rush is missing.

TELFORD

(into radio)

Tell them he panicked and ran away. They'll believe it. By the time they start looking for him, it'll be too late. The first available opportunity, I'll access one of the Gate Room consoles and transfer control of the ship back to Rush.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Well, the second they find out, they're going to start shooting prisoners.

RUSH
Then I won't let them find out. Not right away, anyway.

[Rush approaches the control console and takes Young's radio.]

RUSH

(into radio)

I won't lock them out completely. They can have control of the ship until I decide they can't.

TELFORD

(into radio)

They'll herd all of the prisoners into one compartment. If they don't, I'll suggest it. When they do, I'll contact Rush on this channel. I'll tell him which compartment, then he can vent the atmosphere from all the surrounding ones.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Where are you going to be?

TELFORD

(into radio)

You let me worry about that. I gotta go.

[He puts the radio back in its hiding place. The two guards have come closer.]

TELFORD

(to guards)

It's all clear. Best not to stick around.

[They all leave.]

INT—GATE ROOM INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The conversation switches between the Gate Room and the Control Room.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

This is Colonel Young. I am prepared to surrender control of the ship provided certain conditions are met.

KIVA

(into radio)

Go ahead.

YOUNG

(into radio)

I need you to guarantee me the safety of my people.

KIVA

(into radio)

Agreed.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Nobody gets hurt during the changeover, and no retribution afterwards.

KIVA

(into radio)

Anything else?

YOUNG

(into radio)

That's all.

RUSH
Well, Mr. Brody, time to panic and run off.

VOLKER
Hold on a sec. We just got a message from an unexplored part of the ship.

[Rush brings it up on his console.]

RUSH
It's Eli. What are we going to do?

YOUNG
Well, you've got to go. Good luck.

RUSH
Yeah, you too.

[Rush and Brody leave.]

YOUNG
Transfer control to them.

[Park does so.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

CHLOE
Anything?

ELI
I wrote it in Ancient, so it could take a while for somebody to—

[He's interrupted by beeping from the console.]

CHLOE
What is it?

ELI
I've got a message.

CHLOE
What's it say?

ELI

(deflating)

Oh no. We'd better stay put.

INT—GATE ROOM

[Calvos is at the console.]

CALVOS
Transfer complete.

KIVA
Open them.

[Various hatches open after he pushes the buttons. All around the ship, the Destiny crew members surrender to the Lucian soldiers and are herded by them into the corridors. Finally they are locked in the mess hall.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Kiva and her men meet Wray and Young in the corridor and disarm them.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[TJ dresses the arm of an injured person.]

VARRO

No shooting. That's a good sign.
(looking at his shoulder)

I think the stitching is torn.

TJ
You're moving around too much.

[She approaches and has a look at his wound.]

VARRO
I understand your anger at losing the ship, but it wasn't really yours to begin with. When all this is settled, past sins on both sides will have to be forgiven… Truce?

[She ignores him while she keeps working on his shoulder.]

[The pulsar hits the ship again and the lights fade.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young and the others watch the lights flicker. Greer and Scott are wearing the space suits now.]

KIVA

(into radio)

Open them.

[The hatches open.]

YOUNG
Forty-six minutes, gentlemen.

SCOTT
Yes, sir.

[Scott and Greer walk to the section where the aliens had made the circular hole in the hull. It's covered only by the shield.]

KIVA

(into radio)

They're in.

[The hatch to that section closes. Scott checks Greer's suit.]

INT—GATE ROOM

CALVOS

(into radio)

Attenuating the shield strength in that compartment. Dialing back artificial gravity.

INT—CORRIDOR UNDER OPENING

[The shield disappears above the hole. Scott and Greer look up into it.]

INT—POWER CONTROL SECTION

[Telford enters and makes his way to the power supply section. He tries to pull out a component but can't. He pulls his pistol and fires at it. Sparks fly.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[A problem shows up on a console.]

CALVOS

(into radio)

Commander, one of the power relays just went down.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Kiva walks away swiftly.]

EXT—SPACE

[Greer and Scott arrive on the surface of the ship.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Telford returns.]

TELFORD
Something wrong?

CALVOS
We just lost a power relay.

TELFORD
Then why aren't you dealing with it? Go, go. I can open and close doors.

[Calvos leaves Telford alone. The consoles show control is being transferred.]

INT—AUXILIARY CONTROL ROOM

[Brody and Rush arrive and take seats at the consoles. The consoles are busy with file transfers going on.]

EXT—SPACE

[Greer and Scott walk along the surface of the ship. They come to a cylindrical structure at the junction of some pipes.]

GREER
This is it?

SCOTT
Yeah. It's where he said it was going to be.

[They push some large buttons, and the device rises up out of the hull.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Kiva arrives and finds Telford at the controls. They both raise their pistols and fire at each other at the same instant.]

INT—AUXILIARY CONTROL ROOM

[The transfer activity on the console stops.]

RUSH
No-no-no-no-no.

BRODY
What happened?

RUSH
The transfer's just stopped.

EXT—SPACE

[Greer and Scott pull on handles and make inputs to the schematic below. Scott closes his handle again but Greer's won't move. Scott comes over.]

SCOTT
What's the matter?

GREER
It won't lock.

INT—CORRIDOR

SCOTT

(over radio)

Colonel Young, this is Scott. How're we doin' for time?

YOUNG

(into radio)

Fourteen minutes.

EXT—SPACE

[Greer and Young pull hard on the handle and get it closed. They push the large buttons, and the unit sinks back into the hull.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Calvos and two men arrive to find Kiva and Telford lying shot and unconscious. He checks their conditions.]

CALVOS

(into radio)

This is Calvos. Kiva and Telford have both been shot. The commander is still breathing but unconscious.

INT—CORRIDOR

DANNIC

(into radio)

Get them to the medic.

CALVOS

(over radio)

Yes, sir.

DANNIC

(into radio)

Is there any sign of the enemy?

CALVOS

(over radio)

None.

INT—GATE ROOM

[The men take Kiva away.]

INT—CORRIDOR

DANNIC
Where are your men?

YOUNG
What?

DANNIC
Your soldiers. How did they get into the Gate Room?

YOUNG
I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

[Dannic takes Young's radio and starts to shove him down the corridor.]

YOUNG
I've got people outside this ship!

INT—CORRIDOR

[Dannic meets up with other Lucian soldiers.]

DANNIC
The enemy has somehow breached our lines. Both Telford and Kiva have been shot. I'm assuming command.

EXT—SPACE

[Scott and Greer arrive back at the opening in the hull. It is covered by the shield.]

SCOTT

(into radio)
Uh, Colonel Young, this is Scott. We're ready to come back in. Lower the shield… I repeat, this is Scott, over.
(more urgently)

The shield is still up. We cannot get back inside.

[They hear no response.]

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG

(to Dannic)

He just saved our damned lives — lower the shield.

DANNIC
Keep moving.

YOUNG
Lower the damn shield!

[Dannic turns around and slugs Young in the face.]

EXT—SPACE

SCOTT

(into radio)

Lower the shield!

GREER
Try a different channel!

SCOTT

(into radio)

This is Scott. Please respond!

INT—AUXILIARY CONTROL ROOM

[Rush has overheard the exchange.]

[The conversation switches between the aux. control room and the outside hull of the ship.]

RUSH
Lieutenant, something's gone wrong. We have to find you another way back inside the ship.

SCOTT
No-no-no-no, there's no time for that, Rush.

GREER
Whoa-whoa-whoa, what other way is there?

[Rush studies the schematics.]

RUSH
There's an airlock in the forward section.

BRODY
Yeah, we think it's an airlock. It's in a totally unexplored part of the ship. Besides, we can't open it from here.

RUSH
Eli…Eli.

RUSH
Lieutenant, I need you to head back towards the front of the ship.

SCOTT
Negative. Negative!

RUSH
Listen to me. That's the way in.

GREER
We're looking at the way in right now.

RUSH
You need to go there as quickly as you can. Go right now!

EXT—SPACE

[Scott gives in. They start moving forward as quickly as they can.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

We're on our way.

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

CHLOE
What's going on?

ELI
Uh, I'm getting a message.

CHLOE
What's it say?

ELI
That I gotta go.

CHLOE
What do you mean?

[He types a return message.]

ELI
I'm telling them where you are, so, you'll be safe until they come.

[He bends to face her.]

CHLOE

(fearful)

Where are you going?

ELI

(holding her face)

Whatever happens, you know, right?

[He kisses her on the cheek.]

CHLOE
Eli, you're scaring me.

ELI
I gotta go.

CHLOE
Eli!

[Chloe weeps after he goes.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[The men carry Kiva in and set her on the table. They set Telford on the floor.]

VARRO
Calvos. What happened?

INT—AUXILIARY CONTROL ROOM

RUSH

(looking at console)

Come on, come on.

EXT—SPACE

[Scott and Greer run along the hull.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Dannic opens the hatch and tosses Young inside.]

DANNIC

(to his men)

Separate the civilians. Take them to another compartment.

[They start to round up anyone not in a military uniform. Young lies on the floor, bleeding from his nose.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli runs and climbs a ladder.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

VARRO

(into radio)

This is Varro. What are you doing?

INT—MESS HALL

DANNIC

(into radio)

I'm gonna put an end to this.

[Dannic walks out with the civilians and closes the hatch on the military personnel.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[TJ is standing beside Kiva as if about to help her.]

DANNIC

(over radio)

Bring their injured soldiers to me.

TJ

(to Varro)

Not if you expect me to save your commander.

[One of the Destiny crew attacks a Lucian Alliance guard who is gesturing for him to get up. While they struggle, the guard's machine gun starts spraying the room, hitting people from both sides. The Destiny soldier kills the guard, but then Varro shoots him dead. Koz and Varro look around the room. Many are dead. Varro sees TJ lying unconscious.]

INT—AUXILIARY CONTROL ROOM

BRODY
They're not going to make it.

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli runs down another corridor.]

EXT—SPACE

[Scott and Greer run along the hull.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Chloe becomes unconscious.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[Varro turns TJ gently onto her back. She has a gunshot wound in the abdomen.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray and other civilians are herded along.]

EXT—SPACE

[Scott and Greer run along the hull.]

INT—FORWARD SECTION OF DESTINY

[Eli runs down another corridor to another hatch and starts to open it.]

INT—MESS HALL

[The hatch opens and Lucian Alliance soldiers enter, their weapons drawn on the Destiny military crew. They surround them and push them to their knees. Rush remains standing and looks upward at the ceiling as the lights start to flicker.]
