TEASER

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—TJ'S QUARTERS

[TJ's watch alarm goes off, waking her.]

INT—SCOTT'S QUARTERS

[Scott shaves, looking at his reflection.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Wray absently spins her spoon through her watery gruel.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush stumbles into the room. Park and Brody are working at a console and hear him as he catches his balance on the bulkhead.]

PARK
Should you be out of bed?

RUSH

(weakly)

There's, uh, too much work to be done. We'd best get on with it.

BRODY

(skeptical)

"We?"

INT—DAMAGED SHUTTLE

[Brody, in a space suit, welds a breech in the damaged part of the ship.]

BRODY
Ready.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

RUSH
All right, go ahead and repressurize.

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE DAMAGED SHUTTLE

PARK
Repressurizing.

INT—DAMAGED SHUTTLE

[Air blasts into the shuttle. Brody monitors its progress.]

BRODY
It's holding steady.

[While park watches from the monitor outside, Brody takes off his helmet and breathes deeply.]

BRODY
And we've got atmosphere.

RUSH

(over radio)

Very good. Continue with the repairs. Beginning with navigation and propulsion.

BRODY

(over radio)

Roger that.

[Park opens the hatch and joins him.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young enters, finding Rush at the console.]

YOUNG
What the hell are you doing?

RUSH
Repairing the damaged shuttle, if that's all right.

YOUNG
I mean, you just had surgery.

RUSH
I'm fine, thank you.

YOUNG
You look like you're ready to drop dead.

RUSH

(caustic)

And that would be a bad thing?

YOUNG

(sincerely)

Yes, Rush, that would be a…bad thing. Listen to me, the civilians aboard this ship didn't try to take over because they thought I was doing a bang-up job. I get that.

RUSH
Well, good for you.

YOUNG
I also "get" that I have to make this work. So I've ordered my people to make a special effort. I would like to do the same, even with you.

RUSH

(with dry chuckle)

Wow…that must have taken quite the effort.

YOUNG
You have no idea.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops out of faster than light.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG

(into radio)

Lt. Scott, we just dropped out of FTL. Please have a team ready on stand-by.

SCOTT

(over radio)

Yes, sir.

RUSH
But the 'gate isn't dialing.

YOUNG
Why not?

RUSH
Because there's nothing there.

YOUNG
What?

RUSH
It appears we have dropped out of FTL into empty space. No planets, no stars, nothing.

BRODY

(over radio)

Uh…you might want to recheck that data.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody and Park stare out the shuttle window at a yellow star near enough to appear as a sun.]

END TEASER

OPENING CREDITS

INT—BALCONY

[Several members of the crew stare out at the star.]

ELI
The ships that are seeding the 'gates ahead of Destiny. I thought they sent a record of the star systems in our path.

RUSH
They do. That star…is not supposed to be here.

INT—MESS HALL

[Scott joins Greer and TJ.]

SCOTT
All right, sit tight, guys. Gate's not dialing. They think it might be some kind of a…glitch in the database.

GREER

(sarcastic)

And here I was worried I'd have to cut short my delicious meal.

[TJ snorts out a laugh, that doubles as a way to choke down her food. Her eyes are sunken in, and she is pale.]

SCOTT
You okay? Look like you might be coming down with something.

TJ

(quietly)

Fine. Just…uh…tired.

[Chloe walks by the table, studiously avoiding looking at Scott. Greer and Scott notice.]

GREER
We call that…cold. Yeah.

SCOTT
Yeah, it's going to take a little time.

GREER
And "the special effort on our part towards a spirit of…cooperation."

SCOTT
Yeah, well, the Colonel's right about that. We have to live with these people.

GREER
Doesn't mean I gotta like it.

SCOTT
Yeah, you do. At least, you have to look like you do.

TJ
Good luck with that.

[She leaves the table.]

SCOTT

(turning to Greer)

Am I wrong? Does she look like she's coming down with something?

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush and Eli show a schematic on a display to Young. Rush is leaning heavily on the console, almost doubled over.]

RUSH

(breathing with effort)

It's a G-2 star, yellow dwarf, similar to our own sun. Because Destiny didn't know it was here, the star's gravity well disrupted our propulsion systems, causing us to drop out of FTL prematurely. It's a glitch in the technology.

YOUNG
So what happens now?

RUSH
We've entered a parabolic course. Once we're 'round the star, we'll be far enough way from its gravitational influence, back into FTL and on our way.

YOUNG
How long's that going to take?

RUSH
A few weeks. There is, however, a silver lining.

[He brings up another display showing a planet near the star.]

ELI
A planet?

RUSH
Only one in the solar system, so far as I can see. About the same size as Earth.

ELI
Looks close.

RUSH

(wincing in pain)

It is. Within shuttle range.

YOUNG
Atmosphere?

RUSH
In a word? Perfect.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle takes off.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli, Volker, and Rush are all at consoles.]

RUSH
I've been over the databanks a dozen times. No evidence of any glitch…or anomaly.

ELI
Yeah, I-I couldn't find anything either. It's like this…star just…appeared out of nowhere.

VOLKER
Well, vigorous surface activity. Strong stellar winds. Bipolar outflow. It's brand new, all right. It's straight out of T-tauri phase.

ELI
Which would still make it like, what? A hundred million years old?

VOLKER
It's…two hundred million.

ELI
And how far ahead of us are those gate-seeding ships?

RUSH
It doesn't make any sense. The ships would have noticed it.

ELI
And dropped a shiny new Stargate on the planet.

VOLKER
That's the weirder thing about this. I mean, if this star really is this young, then that planet should still be a ball of molten rock.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle enters the planet's atmosphere.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott, Greer, TJ, Caine, and others are inside. Scott pilots.]

SCOTT
All right, we're through the upper atmosphere. Everything looks good. I'm going to set 'er down on that land mass directly below us.

EXT—PLANET FOREST, DAY

[The away team cautiously explores the area.]

SCOTT
No sign of any wildlife.

CAINE
That we can see.

[TJ stoops and gathers some water from a stream into a test tube. She seals it and takes a laminated card from Caine, checking results. She smiles.]

TJ
It's pure.

[She later gathers some small berries. Scott approaches her.]

SCOTT
How you feeling?

TJ
Great. A little sunshine, fresh air, water…just what I needed.

GREER

(calling from distance)

Yo, check this out!

[He approaches holding a small fruit in his hand.]

GREER
There's a whole grove of trees back there loaded with these things.

TJ

(intrigued)

Hmm.

[She cuts it open with her knife.]

TJ
It's like a kiwi. We'll take it back and do an edibility test.

[He snatches it out of her hand.]

GREER
I'll do one right now.

[He bites the fruit.]

TJ
Greer!

SCOTT

(simultaneously)

What the hell are you doing?

GREER
Oh…that's nice.

TJ
We don't even know if it's poisonous!

GREER
We will.

[He smiles cheekily as he walks away.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young, Rush, and Eli hover over a console listening to Scott's report from the shuttle.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Well, we're getting a ton of plant samples. TJ thinks there's all sorts of medicinal properties.

YOUNG
Well, that's great. That's great.

[The conversation switches back and forth to Scott in the shuttle.]

SCOTT
We also found some fruit. Greer went ahead and ate one. So far, he hasn't had any reactions to it.

[He chuckles ruefully.]

RUSH
How 'bout water?

SCOTT
Tons of it. Pure, too. We'll bring back as much of it as we can.

ELI
No…alien creatures slithering around?

SCOTT
No, nothing. It's weird, but it's daytime. So who knows what comes out at night.

YOUNG
All right, load up the shuttle and head on back. Do a fly-over of the area on your way.

SCOTT
Copy that. Scott out.

EXT—PLANET LAGOON AREA, DAY

[TJ stares out at the landscape. Scott joins her.]

SCOTT
There you are.

JAMES
This place. It reminds me of home. We used to go camping. Olympic Peninsula. My dad and I we'd go hiking for days at a time; find these amazing vistas and canyons, waterfalls…

SCOTT
Time to go, TJ.

[TJ nods and sighs, turning to head back with Scott.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott flies the shuttle over the planet with everyone loaded back aboard. TJ, Caine and others are in the back studying the items they brought back.]

GREER
Damn near perfect.

SCOTT
It doesn't make any sense, the ship not knowing about this place…of all the planets to put a Stargate on, I would think that…

[Scott's voice trails off as he and Greer stare at something in the distance. TJ notices their inattention and moves forward, seeing the same as them. There is a perfectly formed obelisk rising high above the mountains, despite its base being in a valley below.]

GREER
Looks like we weren't the first ones here.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Scott stands at ease, debriefing Young, Rush, Eli, and Wray. There is video footage of the obelisk beside him.]

SCOTT
It's massive. Two thousand feet high, at least. We detected a faint EM field around it, but nothing else.

ELI
Those markings, like some kind of alien language.

WRAY
Do you think it's the same ones we keep running into?

RUSH
Not with this level of technology.

YOUNG
What, to build this thing?

RUSH
No. To create a planet.

WRAY

(shocked)

They actually built this planet?

ELI

(laughing)

The Genesis device.

[Everyone looks at him either blankly or with annoyance.]

ELI

(groaning)

The end of Wrath of Khan.

RUSH

(ignoring Eli)

The reason why Destiny had no knowledge of this star system is that it was placed there after the gate-seeding ships passed through.

YOUNG
Wait, you're telling me they built the star, too?

ELI

(scoffing)

That would make them the number one all time advanced civilization.

RUSH
That would be an understatement.

SCOTT
Okay, so what do we do about this?

RUSH
We send a team back down there.

WRAY

(incredulous)

What?!

RUSH
Look, our orbit has been refined. It's going to be four weeks, two days, seven hours before we jump back to FTL. I'm proposing we take advantage of the wait.

YOUNG
But I thought you said we were almost out of shuttle range.

RUSH
We are, but…

[He keys up a display of the ship and the planet's respective orbits around the star.]

RUSH
We're going to swing back into range once we circle the star and before we jump to FTL. We send a team down now, pick them back up in a month's time loaded with supplies.

[He stands, wincing and holding his sides in pain.]

SCOTT
We time it right on the return, we could take two, maybe three trips.

ELI

(raising hand)

What about the aliens?

SCOTT
We didn't see them.

WRAY
Well, it doesn't mean that they're not around.

RUSH
Look, we have three hours left before we're out of shuttle range. If we're going to do this, we have to do it quickly.

ELI
Okay, okay. Just…to say this out loud. Assuming that this star and this planet were created by the most incredibly advanced aliens ever, maybe they don't want anyone messing around with it.

YOUNG
We need the food and medicine.

RUSH

(squirming in pain)

I agree. The gains outweigh the risks.

[Rush sips from a cup.]

ELI
Do they? We're 0 for 3 on "close encounters of the third kind". What makes you think that these guys are going to be any different?

YOUNG
I'm not sending anyone down there without protection.

SCOTT
And we'll have the shuttle in case we gotta bug out.

YOUNG
Eli, everything we do out here is a risk.

[Eli still looks worried.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Wray enters. TJ is sorting her new supplies.]

WRAY
TJ.

TJ
Hi.

WRAY
Uh, I heard you found some plants with possible analgesic properties?

TJ
Yes, high concentration of salicin. Similar to aspirin. You got a headache?

WRAY

(wryly)

Only since I've been on this ship.

[TJ nods and takes a small plastic bag out of a container in the cupboard. She hands it to Wray.]

TJ
Take these, steep them in hot water, and drink it.

[Wray notices TJ is packing a case.]

WRAY
So, you're joining the team going down to the planet?

TJ
Yeah, all types of medicinals. I, uh, can't pass it up. How about you?

WRAY

(sighing)

Oh, I don't know. I mean, part of me wants to, but…what if Rush's calculations are…off? Can we trust him?

[TJ's expression turns cold.]

TJ
You tell me.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young walks with Scott and Greer as several people load into the shuttle carrying a lot of equipment.]

YOUNG
I want round the clock watch on camps, guard details on every science team going into the woods.

SCOTT
Yes, sir.

YOUNG
Hopefully, we'll be able to fix the damaged shuttle before you return, double up on supplies we can bring back. Good luck.

[They shake hands.]

SCOTT
Thanks.

[They notice Chloe with a bag trying to enter.]

SCOTT

(pleasantly surprised)

You're coming, too?

CHLOE
Is there a problem with that?

YOUNG
No. Happy camping.

[Chloe nods and heads inside. Young turns to go, meeting TJ arriving at the shuttle.]

YOUNG
You all set?

TJ
Yes, sir. Cole will be looking after Franklin in the infirmary while I'm away. I told her to contact me if there's any change in his condition.

[She pauses, uncertain.]

YOUNG
Is there anything else?

TJ
…No, sir.

[She steps through the door, pauses without looking back, then keeps walking as the door closes behind her.]

INT—BALCONY

[Several people watch the shuttle lift off.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

We're clear.

YOUNG

(into radio)

We'll see you in a month.

[Young walks away. Eli looks worried as he leaves the room. Wray looks wistful.]

EXT—PLANET CLEARING, DAY

[The shuttle lands on a clear area.]

[The away team of military and civilians cautiously departs, smiling despite themselves at the sunlight and fanning out to explore.]

SCOTT
All right, folks, you've got the whole month to enjoy the scenery. We need to set up camp, establish a perimeter. Sun moves that way… Guys? Over here?

[He waves and pauses until people turn towards him.]

SCOTT

(gesturing)

Sun moves that way, so that's west. Okay? River's back that way about half a klick, er, kilometer. We'll sleep in the shuttle for now, but I want shelters built ASAP. How many of you guys have gone camping before?

[About a third of the group raise their hands.]

SCOTT
Well, okay, that's fine. Just watch, ask, and learn. You guys know your team assignments? Get going.

GREER
Let's go.

TJ
Yeah, I got it.

[Chloe approaches Scott.]

CHLOE

(clears throat awkwardly)

Um…I don't have a team yet.

SCOTT
Oh, yeah, right, sorry. Uh, do you feel like helping TJ with plants?

CHLOE

(perhaps disappointed)

Sure.

SCOTT
Okay.

[In another part of the clearing, a scientist and Dunning get into a shoving match. Greer hurries over.]

GREER
Hey, hey, hey, hey. What's going on here?

SCIENTIST
I'm not digging the latrine.

[He drops the latrine shovel pointedly.]

GREER

(to Dunning, intensely)

Is that what you told him to do?

DUNNING
Somebody's got to do it.

GREER

(chuckling mirthlessly)
True enough.
(to Scientist)

Start digging.

SCIENTIST
What? No, you can't make me.

GREER

(to Dunning)

You, too.

DUNNING
But Sergeant, I gotta—

GREER

You're going to dig, okay? You're both going to dig, and you're gonna love every moment of it, or you will keep digging until you do.
(smiling to Scott, who's watching)

Spirit of cooperation. We're all friends now.

[He chuckles. Scott grins and nods.]

EXT—FOREST, DAY

[A guard walks with Chloe and TJ.]

TJ
So we'll photograph and log every plant we find. Don't ingest anything until we do a proper edibility test.

[She pauses, swallowing back some nausea.]

CHLOE
You all right?

TJ
Yeah, just….

[She sits on a log.]

TJ
It's passing, I'm fine.

[Chloe sits down next to her.]

CHLOE
Oh. The amount of food and water we get on that ship, it's a wonder we're not all fainting from malnutrition.

TJ
Yeah.

[Scott approaches them.]

SCOTT
Well, I just got the word. Destiny is now officially out of range. No turning back. We are stuck here.

[TJ suppresses a smile.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies in orbit around the star.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Eli approaches the mess hall. He sees it's empty except for Wray doing some paperwork. He quietly turns to go back the way he came, but Wray spots him.]

WRAY
Hey.

[Eli plants a smile and wanders as if he wasn't trying to avoid her.]

ELI
Hey. How's it going?

WRAY
Well, I hope they bring back tons of food. The last of that fruit that they brought back is already gone.

ELI
Or so you think.

[Wray looks at him. He sits across from her and pulls out a "kiwi" from his pocket.]

ELI
Snuck this earlier. I'll split it with you, if you promise not to rat me out.

WRAY
Deal.

[He starts to cut it open.]

WRAY
So, um, tell me…

[He hands her half the fruit.]

WRAY
Thanks. You think it's uh, possible to create a star?

ELI
Nah. No way.

[She nods.]

ELI
Now, being transported to a ship on the other side of the universe by a wormhole…that-that's totally doable.

[She chuckles at his sarcasm.]

ELI

(serious)

Look, that star just appeared out of nowhere, and the planet's age doesn't match. If some all powerful alien beings didn't create it, who did?

EXT—RIVERBED, DAY

[Caine sits by the river, meditating. Scott arrives at the opposite bank, about to fill his canteen. He doesn't notice Caine at first, but when he does, he jumps back.]

SCOTT
Aw, jeez, hey, I'm sorry. I'll go somewhere else.

CAINE
Aw, no. No, no, it's okay.

[Scott bends down again with his canteen.]

CAINE
Hey, I wanted to thank you. I know all the military personnel are trying to mend fences, but, you're one of the few who actually seems to mean it.

SCOTT
Yeah, well, we've got to work it out, right?

CAINE
It's interesting that we've now been given the time down here to do that.

SCOTT
Yeah, well, we were pretty lucky to find this place.

CAINE
My mom used to say there was no such thing as luck, only the hand of God giving you a little help when you need it most. Somewhere along the line, I mean, I…I stopped believing all that. But now…I look at this place, put right in our path…for us to find. Tell me that isn't a miracle.

[Scott looks thoughtful but doesn't reply.]

INT—DAMAGED SHUTTLE

[Young joins Park and Brody in the shuttle.]

YOUNG
Hey, how's it going?

BRODY

(simultaneously with Park)

Terrible.

PARK

(simultaneously with Brody)

It's great!

YOUNG
Which is it?

BRODY
Propulsion's almost completely shot. Might be able to get to the point where you can fly down to the planet, but there's no way it's gonna have enough power to get back up, so there's that. We're making some progress on navigation. We can turn left. But not right, or up or down.

YOUNG

Okay.
(to Park)

Why did you say "great"?

PARK
W-we can turn left.

RUSH

(over radio)

Colonel Young.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead.

[The conversation switches between the damaged shuttle and Rush in the control room.]

RUSH
While Destiny's engines are offline, I'd like to use the extra power to strengthen the shield, maybe explore some damaged areas in the ship, possibly make some repairs.

YOUNG
Reclaim some real estate.

RUSH

(chuckling)

Exactly.

YOUNG

(into radio)
You go ahead. I'll have Lt. James put a team together.
(to Brody and Park)

You two, you keep at it. You have a month to get this thing to fly to and from that planet, and do more than make a left turn.

EXT—PLANET FIELD, DAY

[TJ, the Scientist, Chloe, and Caine pick flowers in a field. A guard stands watch.]

TJ
Fate brought us here?

CAINE
I don't know. Maybe. Maybe that's what brought us to Icarus, and then Destiny.

[The Scientist laughs in derision.]

TJ
You don't believe that?

SCIENTIST
What, you missed your flight, and the plane crashes? You weren't spared for a reason. God doesn't have a master plan for you. Things just happen.

CHLOE
So, we're born, we live, we die? It's all random?

VOLKER
Yeah, and along the way, you do the best with whatever crap you happen to step in.

INT—BALCONY

[Eli and Wray sit together on the long couch in the room, staring at the star.]

WRAY
I'm starting to get a bad feeling.

ELI
Me, too. I'm afraid we made a mistake sending those people down to that planet.

WRAY
No, the mistake was not going with them.

EXT—CLEARING, DAY

[Scott shows everyone how to make a shelter.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[James leads a team into a new section of the ship.]

INT—RUSH'S QUARTERS

[Rush haltingly and in pain lies back on his bed. He clutches a bloody bandage in his hand.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[They try and bring power and make repairs to damages parts of the ship.]

EXT—CAMPSITE, NIGHT

[Chloe sits and stares at a fire.]

EXT—PLANET LAGOON, DAY

[Scott takes a walk. He spots Chloe bathing in the lagoon. She sees him watching and looks away shyly.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[James's team walks across a catwalk. They shine their lights into a huge room below them, filled with boxes.]

EXT—PLANET CLEARING, DAY

[A kino records everyone playing soccer—military versus civilian, and having fun. Chloe scores a goal]

INT—MESS HALL

[Eli and others play poker, looking bored and sad.]

EXT—OBELISK VALLEY, DAY

[Volker studies the obelisk.]

EXT—PLANET FIELD, DAY

[Scott and Chloe walk together through a field.]

EXT—PLANET WATERFALL, DAY

[TJ comes across a waterfall and stares at it in wonder. Her hair is loose from its military up-do.]

INT—FOREST, DAY

[Chloe picks some berries. She hears someone retching. Going to investigate, she comes across TJ, still on her knees, but the retching has passed.]

CHLOE
Hey, you okay?

[She helps TJ sit up.]

CHLOE
Here…Gosh…I thought you were feeling better.

TJ
Yeah, I am.

CHLOE
Here, let me help you back to camp. You should lie down.

TJ
No, Chloe…I'm not sick.

[She looks at Chloe. There is a pregnant pause. Chloe gasps.]

CHLOE
How far along?

TJ
About fifteen weeks, right before we left Icarus. But nobody knows, and I-I'd like to keep it that way.

CHLOE
Eventually, they're gonna…

TJ
I know. I know, but not now. I'll figure out when the right time is. Okay?

CHLOE
Yeah. Sure.

TJ
Back on the ship, I wasn't doing well, getting anemic, but out here with all the food and water… Actually, the morning sickness is a good sign.

CHLOE
What about the father?

[TJ sighs.]

INT—WAREHOUSE CHAMBER

[Young, Rush, and James stare at a device in a storage container in a darkened area of the ship.]

YOUNG
What the hell is it?

RUSH
I don't know yet.

JAMES
Looks like a robot.

[Rush looks intrigued.]

YOUNG
Figure it out.

RUSH
Oy yeah, no problem. Once I've attended to the other hundred things on my list.

YOUNG
You can always put somebody else on it.

RUSH
I'm not going to have anyone touch this thing without me present. I'm going to get to it, Colonel.

[Rush walks away.]

YOUNG
Close it up.

JAMES
Okay.

EXT—CAMPSITE, NIGHT

[Scott spots Chloe sitting by the campfire.]

SCOTT
Hey. You okay?

CHLOE
Yeah.

[He sits on the log next to her.]

SCOTT
Homesick for Destiny? Only a few more days until we head back.

CHLOE
Honestly? No, I'm not. I like it here. I'm starting to wonder if Dr. Caine is right, that it's no accident we found this planet.

SCOTT
We were brought here by God?

CHLOE
Or whoever. I don't know. I mean, if some alien beings are…powerful enough to create this place, maybe there is some kind of higher power in the universe that knew we were in trouble, put this planet here for us to find… Maybe it's time we stopped thinking about…

[Her voice trails off as she spots something over Scott's shoulder.]

CHLOE
Hey, what's that?

[Scott looks, too. There is a light beam emitting upward from the obelisk, going into space.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny has passed to the other side of the star now, while remaining in close orbit.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The conversation switches between Young and Rush in the control room, and Scott on the shuttle, as they speak by radio.]

YOUNG
When?

SCOTT

(nervous)

Tonight. Just now, coming shooting straight up into the sky. Uh, Dr. Volker detected some kind of a…a strange radiation. He's working on it. Uh…it's like this whole thing suddenly came to life.

YOUNG

(to Rush)

Why now? Why not when they first got there?

RUSH
Perhaps their initial impact wasn't enough to trigger an alert. But now…

SCOTT
So, this light? Do you think it'll bring the aliens back to the planet?

YOUNG
You won't be there to find out.

EXT—CAMP, DAY

[TJ sits on a shelter cot, eating a chewy root. Scott briefs the away team.]

SCOTT
Destiny is almost in range. Col. Young wants us to start breaking up camp and get ready to head back.

VOLKER
What about the obelisk? I still need time to—

SCOTT
We don't have enough time. We need to be ready to fly as soon as Destiny is in range so we can make a couple trips and get all that food back to the ship.

[No one is anxious to move.]

GREER
All right, people. You heard the man. Move your asses! Let's go.

[Everyone starts murmuring and packing. Chloe and TJ look unhappy.]

INT—DAMAGED SHUTTLE

[Brody and Park report on their progress to Young.]

YOUNG
Yes?

PARK
Yes. Well…

BRODY
No.

YOUNG
Again wi-with this?

PARK
The shuttle can fly. It can now go both left and right, and up and down.

BRODY
But like I said before, too many problems with propulsion. Fact is, we may never be able to fully repair it.

INT—MESS HALL

[Rush sits alone at a table. Others play with the watery gruel. Eli, James, and Wray sit at a different table, eating the watery gruel.]

JAMES
All kinds of citrus-type fruits.

WRAY
Mmm.

JAMES
Beans, potatoes…

ELI
Sweet potatoes. Scott says they're amazing.

JAMES
They cannot get back here fast enough.

[Wray spots Rush.]

WRAY
You seem concerned, Dr. Rush. Something we should know about?

RUSH
No.

[He breaks out of his reverie and stands, walking towards their table.]

WRAY
No problems with your calculations, right? The shuttle will return as scheduled?

RUSH
Yeah. And Destiny will leave this system, never knowing who created it or why.

[He walks away.]

EXT—WATERFALL AREA, DAY

[TJ stares at the waterfall, looking torn and sad.]

EXT—CAMP, DAY

[Scott paces anxiously while others pack up gear. He spots TJ approaching slowly from the woods and starts towards her with a determined air. Chloe sees him and his destination and moves to intercede.]

CHLOE

(low, to Scott)

You might want to give her time.

SCOTT
Wh-well, we're breaking camp, and she just takes off without telling me.

CHLOE
She's thinking about staying here. A lot of people are. Come on, you can't be surprised. You've heard people talking about it. They like it here.

SCOTT
Okay, I like it here, too, but we cannot stay! It is out of the question.

CHLOE
Why not? If people want to stay, they have the right…

[Scott storms off towards TJ, who's now nearby.]

SCOTT

(angry, to TJ)

Where the hell have you been?! We've got to move!

TJ

(softly)

I'm not going.

[A lot of the military and civilians have paused and are watching the conversation.]

SCOTT

(sighing, calming himself)

Okay, look, I understand how you feel. I like it here too, but we cannot stay. The Colonel gave us orders—

TJ
Matt, don't. I can't go back there.

SCOTT

(loudly

Why not?

TJ
It's safer here.

SCOTT
Safer?! The aliens who built this rock may be on their way back!

CAINE
Then good. If they're advanced enough to build a solar system, I know they can help us get back home.

GREER
Not if they don't wipe us out first.

CHLOE
Why do you immediately think they're going to harm us?

SCOTT
I'm sorry, do you not remember what the last aliens did to you?!

CAINE
This planet was created for us. We were led here for a reason…

SCIENTIST

(scoffing)

Oh, for "god"'s sake.

GREER
What if they don't come back, then what?

TJ
I'm okay with that. I'm healthier here. There's food and plenty of water.

GREER
And we're bringing a ton of it back!

TJ
And eventually, it'll run out.

SCOTT
Okay, what about the winters? Dr. Volker, you said you found evidence it gets very cold here.

VOLKER
It's well below freezing, for months, TJ.

TJ
So we'll build better shelters.

CAINE
I don't even think it will come to that. The beings who created this world will return, and they will help us get back home. I know it.

[Greer laughs derisively and walks away.]

SCOTT
You would rather take your chances out here than on Destiny?

CHLOE
We don't know where that ship is going, or if we'll ever even make it home!

SCOTT
There's a Stargate on it! As long as we have the potential to connect—

TJ

Matt…
(whispering)

I'm pregnant. I can't go back there. I can't stand the thought of raising a child on that ship.

[Scott is dumbfounded.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[The conversation switches between there and the shuttle where Scott is alone on the radio.]

YOUNG
We are in range. You are clear to make the first trip back. We only have the one shuttle, so time is of the essence.

SCOTT
Uh, sir. We have a problem down here.

YOUNG
What is it?

SCOTT
Some of the people have decided that they would like to stay behind on the planet.

YOUNG
Well, you tell them no.

SCOTT
I…tried, sir. They have pretty much made up their minds.

YOUNG
Who are they?

SCOTT
Eleven people, total. Um, Doctor Caine, Chloe…Lieutenant Johansen…

YOUNG
What?! No! Scott, you tell them—

SCOTT

(continuing)

And me.

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young paces, upset. Rush leans against a bulkhead while Wray stands nearby.]

RUSH
Eleven?

YOUNG
Including some of my own people. You know, and Scott? He has the nerve to ask me to fly him back down to the planet after he drops off the ones returning to the ship.

[He huffs out a sigh in frustration.]

WRAY
Well, look, I can understand some of them wanting to stay, but Lt. Scott and TJ?

YOUNG
Yeah, he says he feels an obligation to help the people survive down there.

WRAY
What are you going to do?

YOUNG
What am I going to do?! I'm gonna make sure they don't stay down there, that's for damn sure.

WRAY
No, no, you cannot force them to come back.

RUSH
Oh, I think he can. We are going to lose more people through attrition aboard this ship. We simply cannot afford to shed that many people at one time.

WRAY
So, what do you expect him to do? Bring them back at gunpoint?

RUSH
Well, if it comes to that, yes. You allow Lt. Scott to return with those who want to come back to Destiny, then send down a military detail and round up the rest.

YOUNG
Oh, that's great, Rush, coming from you.

RUSH

(muttering, scoffing)

Ah, what's the point.

YOUNG
First you want to kick the military out, and now you want us rounding people up at gunpoint.

WRAY
Colonel, those people have the right to make their own decisions about their future.

YOUNG
Not all of them.

INT—SHUTTLE

[TJ joins Scott in the shuttle.]

TJ

(quietly)

Did you, uh…did you tell him about me?

SCOTT
I'll let you do that. It's not my place…He is the father, right?

[TJ gasps and looks away.]

SCOTT

(awkwardly)

I caught a few looks between you. I-I don't think anyone else knew. I haven't heard rumors or anything.

[She turns away, fighting tears. Scott comes up to her and grabs her arms in comfort, looking her in the eyes.]

SCOTT
Hey…hey. You are going to be okay. I-I'll be here, and I'm not going to let anything happen to you.

[TJ nods and embraces him, crying.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young heads down the corridor, determined. Rush and Brody are waiting near the entrance of the damaged shuttle.]

RUSH
Have you gone mad?

YOUNG
Aw, man. Look, I really don't want to argue with you.

RUSH
You're letting them stay?

YOUNG
Not all of them.

RUSH
And you're giving them a shuttle.

YOUNG
The damaged shuttle.

RUSH
It's not damaged anymore.

YOUNG

(to Brody)

Didn't you say that the shuttle may never be fully functional?

RUSH
We may need the shuttle for any number of reasons.

YOUNG

(talking over him)

I'm not going to leave those people down there with nothing—

RUSH

(talking over him)

You cannot let them stay there!

YOUNG

(firm)

I have made my decision. Is it ready?

BRODY

(hesitantly)

Yeah, but, uh, there's still some issues as to whether it can hold up through atmospheric entry.

YOUNG
Questions that are about to be answered.

[Young stares at Rush. Rush stands aside to let Young pass.]

EXT—CAMP, DAY

[Scott runs into the camp.]

SCOTT
Uh, Eli just radioed. Col. Young is on his way down here.

CHLOE
Why?

VOLKER
How?

[TJ looks stricken.]

EXT—SPACE

[The damaged shuttle enters the planet's atmosphere.]

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG
All right, we're entering upper atmosphere.

EXT—CAMP, DAY

[Everyone looks around for signs of the shuttle.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli, Rush, Brody, Park, and Wray look worried as they listen to Young's broadcasts.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

So far, so good.

INT—SHUTTLE

[The bulkheads rattle, especially the welded repair job where the leak was. Young watches it worriedly.]

YOUNG
Come on, hold it together.

EXT—PLANET ATMOSPHERE, DAY

[The seconds shuttle flies through the cloud cover.]

EXT—CAMP, DAY

[Scott spots the shuttle in the distance and points it out.]

SCOTT
Yeah, right there.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG

(over radio)

Destiny, this is Young. I made it through.

[Everyone looks relieved.]

EXT—PLANET CLEARING, DAY

[Everyone waits in the clearing, watching as Young approaches them alone.]

YOUNG
Has anyone changed their minds about returning to the ship?

SCOTT
No.

YOUNG
All right. Here's the deal. I am leaving the damaged shuttle behind for those who want to stay. You can use it for shelter and power. Fly around in short hops on the surface. You will not be able to leave the atmosphere, so don't even try. What it will do is give you guys a fighting chance while you are down here, especially with winter on the way.

CAINE
Thank you, Colonel. I know this isn't—

YOUNG
I'm not finished. I leave it for you only under one condition. All military personnel will return with me to Destiny.

[The crowd gasps.]

YOUNG
Reject my proposal, and we'll take you all back by force.

CAINE
You can't do that.

YOUNG
That's not something you want to test, Doctor.

SCOTT
Sir, some of these…people just don't feel safe on board.

YOUNG
None of us feel safe. That doesn't mean we give up.

CHLOE
They're not giving up.

YOUNG
That ship is the best chance we have of getting home.

CAINE
I disagree, sir. I believe we were brought here for a reason, and that whoever created this planet will provide for us. They are our best chance of getting back home.

[The Scientist shakes his head. Some of the military exchange looks and nods.]

YOUNG
Okay. What's it going to be?

GREER

(stepping forward)

Colonel.

YOUNG
Sergeant.

[The Scientist moves next to stand by Young. Some of the other civilians and military move around. Most of the military end up on Young's "side" of the camp. Among those remaining are Scott, Chloe, and TJ.]

YOUNG

(to Scott)
You want to stay here out of obligation to these people, to protect them? I can respect that. But there are people back on the ship who don't have a choice, and you have an obligation to them as well, Lieutenant.
(to TJ)

TJ, they need you.

[Scott is teary-eyed. TJ looks forlorn, looking to Scott, and then Chloe. She licks her lip and grimaces, then steps over to Young's side. Scott nods. Chloe sighs.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Eli and others wait to greet those returning. Several people walk through the hatch after it opens, including Volker, TJ, Young, and Chloe. Volker carries seedlings.]

ELI

(to Chloe as she passes)

Welcome home.

[He exchanges nods with Scott, who's just exited.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny jumps into FTL.]

INT—BALCONY

[Wray watches the shift to the aurora effect with sadness.]

INT—RUSH'S QUARTERS

[Rush sits near a window, whittling a chess piece. Three other completed white pieces are already formed. Young enters.]

RUSH
Well, as predicted, we've corrected our course and jumped back into FTL.

YOUNG
I'm sorry you didn't get your wish.

RUSH

(blankly)

And what wish was that?

YOUNG
Aliens…advanced enough that they could build a star system. Finally somebody you could have a decent conversation with.

[Rush continues to stare at him in bewilderment.]

YOUNG
I, um…I enjoy chess.

[Rush nods, still nonplussed. Young leaves. Rush smiles for a moment.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young walks down the corridor. Scott catches up to him.]

SCOTT
Uh, Colonel, do you have a moment?

YOUNG
Can it wait?

SCOTT
I wanted to better explain my reasons for choosing to stay behind.

YOUNG
Look, I, uh, realize you are probably not hungry, Lieutenant, but I am. I hear they're serving up a feast in the mess, so why don't we talk about it later?

SCOTT
Sir…

YOUNG

(sternly)

Later.

[He starts to walk away.]

SCOTT

(calling after him)

What if we were meant to stay there?

[Young pauses and turns.]

SCOTT

(continuing)

All of us? What if that planet was a lifeline, and we just let it go?

YOUNG

(shaking his head)

I can't pretend to answer that, Matthew. No one can.

INT—MESS HALL

[Morale is high as the crew enjoys the food, laughing and smiling, including Young.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ sits alone in the room, crying, looking sad and resigned.]
