TEASER

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer and Riley stand in the corridor outside the water reservoir.]

RILEY
Yeah, I read about these Chinese miners that survived a cave-in for six days by drinking their urine.
GREER
I'm going to go ahead and pretend I didn't hear that.
RILEY

(chuckling)

Yeah. You know what they ate? Coal.
GREER
Coal?
RILEY
Yeah. It's a true story. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was pretty stupid. Almost killed them.

[Young approaches from the reservoir. He no longer walks with a limp.]

YOUNG
Water level's down again. You sure nobody went near that compartment on your watch?
RILEY
Spencer came by and asked if he could have a look at the tank.
YOUNG
Why?
RILEY

(shrugging)

He's a crazy person…sir. Anyway, I said no.
YOUNG
Nobody gets in there without my authorization.
GREER
Sir.

[Young leaves Greer and Riley standing at attention.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli, Rush and Young are in the room.]

ELI
Maybe it evaporated when we went through the star?
RUSH
It's a closed system.
YOUNG
All that water went somewhere. We're down to half of what we had when we got here.
RUSH

(studying a display)

I don't understand this.
YOUNG
You're the one trying to get the recycling system up and running. Maybe there's a leak somewhere.
ELI
No. Ship says it's fine.
RUSH
If what you're saying is accurate…
YOUNG
It is.
RUSH
Then we've got a serious problem.
YOUNG
Well, we wouldn't, if you did what I asked you to do in the first place.
RUSH

(dismissively)

Oh, please. Can we stick to one problem at a time?
YOUNG

(insistent)

Running out of water wouldn't matter if we'd just dial Earth and go home.
RUSH
I already explained that to you.
YOUNG
The ship's recharged. The power reserves are full.
RUSH
That's the point! They're not!
YOUNG
Well where are we at then, Rush?!
RUSH
Well, we're probably about—less than 40% of originally designed capacity.
YOUNG

(sneering)

You think I can't tell when someone just pulls a number out of his ass?
RUSH
What?!
ELI
Uh, I actually pulled that number out of my ass. He's not making it up.
RUSH
Look, if Destiny was ever capable of dialing back to Earth, it was thousands of years ago when the Ancients originally intended to come here. But not now.
YOUNG
Well, then, you're right. We have a problem.
RUSH
Yes.
YOUNG
Again.

[They stare at each other for several seconds before Rush breaks away.]

RUSH
Okay, Eli…
YOUNG
Get Brody in on this. He's an engineer. I need to borrow Eli.

[Rush purses his lips as Eli gives a half-hearted smile and follows Young out.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Volker and Franklin are amongst those in line for rations; both still have their arms in slings. Their conversation is being observed through a kino hovering in the hall.]

VOLKER
40,000 liters?
FRANKLIN
That's what I heard.
VOLKER
Well, we didn't drink it.
FRANKLIN
Let's just say it wouldn't surprise me if there was more water than they're telling us.
VOLKER
What, so what? They're hoarding it?
FRANKLIN
It's a big ship. You know the military. Long as they control the water supply, they control us.

[Franklin follows Volker's gaze, who's spotted the kino. Franklin steps closer to it.]

FRANKLIN
That's right. I'm talking about you.

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli pauses the video footage, Young stands over him, smirking.]

YOUNG
Those two are harmless. Keep it up. I need to know who I can trust.
ELI

(resentfully)

I feel like a spy.
YOUNG
Eli…

[Eli turns. There are food wrappers and trash on the floor.]

YOUNG
Clean this room up.

[Young leaves. Eli sighs.]

ELI
Right.

[He turns back to the footage, not noticing the whirlwind of sand-like specks that drifts off behind him.]

OPENING CREDIT

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny comes out of faster than light speed.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer heads down a corridor. The whirlwind flits behind him. Sensing something, Greer turns, but the whirlwind has twisted out of sight. Young comes around a corner, noticing Greer's wary expression.]

YOUNG
What is it?
GREER
Nothing, sir. Just had a strange feeling.
YOUNG
Well, we just dropped out of FTL.
GREER
Wasn't that.
YOUNG

(nodding)

I'm on my way to the gate room. There's a planet in range. Come on.

[He leaves. After a moment, Greer follows.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Young and Greer join Eli, Riley, and Rush in the Gate Room. The Stargate is active.]

YOUNG
What have we got?
ELI
There's only one planet in range. The ship's already dialed it up.
RUSH
We're getting readings now.

[Eli's monitor, where Young and Greer also are, lights up with a blizzard outside.]

ELI
Whoa! Looks like we entered the Hoth system.

[Young looks at him with a deadpan expression, not sharing Eli's amusement.]

ELI
Empire Strikes Back. The second Star Wars movie. Okay, I refuse to call it Episode V.
RUSH
Minus 47 degrees Celsius.
GREER
Bundle up.
ELI
Is that water ice?
RUSH
Yes, but the atmosphere is dangerously thin.
RILEY
And poisonous. .13% molecular oxygen. 95% carbon dioxide with a hint of argon.
GREER
Oooh, nasty planet.
RUSH
The only candidate within range.
YOUNG
We're going to have to use the spacesuits we found. But if that brings back a half a ton of ice, I'll take it. Shut it down for now.

[They shut down the wormhole.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Lieutenant Scott, come in please. Scott?

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott and Chloe are kissing deeply.]

JAMES

(coldly)

There a reason your radio's off?

[Scott and Chloe break away in surprise to find James leaning against the bulkhead.]

SCOTT

(annoyed)

Come in.
JAMES
Colonel Young is looking for you.
SCOTT

(to Chloe)

Uh, I think I'd better…
CHLOE
Go. Go.

[Scott grabs his tac vest and gun, shooting James a guilty look as he passes.]

JAMES

(sarcastic)

What, you couldn't find a broom closet?

[Scott makes a face but doesn't respond. James shoots Chloe a thin smile, then leaves her. Chloe sighs.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[Scott and Young are with Park looking at the Ancient space suits.]

PARK
We're still working on the other suits. We're close to having a third one ready.
YOUNG
How close?
PARK
A day, maybe?
YOUNG
We'll be back in FTL by then.
PARK
Well, they're…not in great shape. All these years…there's bound to be degradation.
YOUNG

Well, keep at it. We're going to need them.
(to Scott)

Looks like it's just you and me, then.
SCOTT
I could take Kennair, sir. She's done EVA's before. And you're…
YOUNG

(sternly)

I'm fine.
SCOTT

(to Park)

How are we going to cut the ice?

INT—GATE ROOM

[Later, Scott and Young are already in geared up in the suits. Park shows a plasma torch. Other people are checking equipment. TJ and Eli are nearby. Rush leans against the door.]

PARK

Plasma cutter. Should cut through the ice like butter. Just don't get the business end anywhere near you. Uh, suit radios are voice activated between you.
(hands Scott a kino remote she gets from Eli)

Press here if you want to tie into the ship's communications systems.
YOUNG
TJ. You're in command while we're gone.

[TJ nods.]

YOUNG
Is everybody clear on that?
RUSH
Oh, I'm sure we'll manage.
YOUNG
Riley, start dialing.

[The Stargate powers up.]

PARK
Assuming a fair amount of physical activity, you have just over eight hours of air.
SCOTT
It's what, eleven hours 'til the next jump to FTL, right?
ELI

(grinning)

Don't worry. You'll run out of air long before we'll leave you behind.
SCOTT
Thanks.

[Eli laughs.]

WORMHOLE EFFECT

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

[The kino already on the planet records Young and Scott's arrival with equipment.]

SCOTT
Beautiful, huh?
YOUNG
One deep breath and you're dead.

[Young bends down while Scott retrieves the Kino. Young scoops up some of the snow into a container and tests it.]

YOUNG

(keying remote on his armband)

Destiny, this is Young, come in.

INT—GATE ROOM

[The conversation switches between the two locations.]

TJ
Yes, sir. We read you five by five.
YOUNG
I've just tested the ice by the Stargate. I read concentrations of ammonia and several other toxic chemicals.
RUSH
How high are the readings?
YOUNG
Off the charts.
RUSH
Well, you could try looking further afield.

[They stare off to a mountainous area in the distance, across a frozen lake.]

YOUNG
Maybe on the other side of that lake.
SCOTT
Is that really a good idea, sir? The further away from the 'gate we go, the less ice we can bring back.
ELI

(inspired)

Oh! I've got just the thing. Give me two minutes.
TJ
Colonel, give us five. Eli has an idea.
SCOTT
Uh, maybe there's fresh water in the lake under the ice.
YOUNG
At minus 47, the ice'll be ten feet deep. We're better off finding a pressure ridge. Something we can mine.
SCOTT
Sounds like you've done something like this before.
YOUNG

(with false levity)

Oh yeah. A million times.

[There is a deep rumbling and groaning.]

SCOTT

(nervous)

Whoa, did you feel that?
YOUNG

It's just a tremor. Hey, you know, the last planet I was on exploded.
(into radio)

Destiny, this is Young. We're burning through suit air. What's goin' on with this bright idea?

INT—GATE ROOM

[Greer helps Eli move a flat platform with cables into the Gate room.]

GREER
Here we come, people! Here we come.
ELI
Sorry, it's impossible to steer by remote.

[The platform levitates off the ground by having a collection of kinos attached underneath it. There is a pile of rope on top of it.]

RUSH
That's fantastic, Eli. What made you come up with that?
ELI
A—actually, it represents my most recent attempt to fly. But it should carry a ton of ice.
TJ

(into radio, laughing)

Colonel, we're sending through Eli's latest invention.

[Greer and Eli maneuver the hovering sled up to the Stargate and push it through.]

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

[The sled arrives.]

YOUNG
I love it. The man gets a gold star.
SCOTT
How much will it hold?
ELI
Definitely more than you can carry by yourself.
YOUNG
All right, we're heading out. Keep the 'gate active. We'll radio back when we find something.

[They start to push the sled out towards the lake.]

YOUNG
TJ.
TJ
Sir?
YOUNG
Listen, if we don't make it back…
TJ
You will.
YOUNG
Well, we're two guys in million-year-old spacesuits walking around alone on an ice planet. If we don't make it back, you're gonna do fine.
TJ

(gulping)

Yes, sir. Good luck.

[The pair head out across the lake, pushing the sled along.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE WATER RESERVOIR

[Greer and Gorman wait while TJ comes from the holding area.]

TJ
The level's dropped.
GREER

(incredulous)

Again?!
GORMAN
Nobody's been in or out.
TJ
Well, Brody said there's no leak in the system, so that leaves one alternative.
GORMAN
Who would steal that much?
GREER
That's a lot of water.
TJ
Yeah, I know. But I don't know what else to do. Besides, it wouldn't hurt to know where we stand. Start a search.
GREER
Let's go, Gorman.

[They all leave.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Eli looks up as the Stargate shuts down. A moment later, Rush enters.]

RUSH
Dial it up again, Mr. Riley. We must maintain communication.

[Riley starts to dial.]

ELI

(shocked)

It just went off a second ago. Your timing is perfect!
RUSH

(checking watch)

Because it's been thirty-eight minutes, the maximum time a Stargate can remain open.
ELI
Well, see, I didn't know that.

[The Stargate activates.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Col. Young. It's Dr. Rush. What's your status?

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET

[Young and Scott are paused in an area.]

YOUNG
We've found an exposed area of ice that looks promising. Testing now.
SCOTT
We're pretty far out. Can't see the 'gate anymore.
YOUNG
Still worthless.

INT—GATE ROOM

RUSH
Keep looking.

[Eli sighs.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[TJ pauses, sensing something. She turns and sees the whirlwind of dust. She warily approaches. It comes closer to her, the small particles forming a copy of her face.]

GREER

(over radio)

Lt. Johansen?

[The whirlwind dissipates and disappears.]

TJ

(into radio)

Go ahead.
GREER

(over radio)

I found something.
TJ

(terse, into radio)

So did I. Can it wait?
GREER
It's Spencer. I can deal with him myself if you'd like, but…
TJ

(into radio)

No, it's fine. I'm on my way.

INT—SPENCER'S QUARTERS

[Spencer is being held by two guards while Greer picks up two large containers of water pointedly as TJ enters.]

SPENCER
I didn't steal anything.

[Greer picks up a bag and empties the contents onto Spencer's bed. Several protein bars fall out.]

GREER

(sarcastic)

Yeah? What's this, huh?
SPENCER

(panicked)

Those are mine! I brought them through with me when we evacuated!
GREER
You brought them through with you, huh?
SPENCER

(struggling)

Yes, sir.

[Greer slams Spencer up against the wall, holding his forearm to Spencer's throat.]

GREER
Give me a reason.
TJ
Hey, hey, hey! Back off!

[TJ pulls Greer away from Spencer.]

TJ

I don't have time for this.
(to guards)

Lock him up somewhere. The Colonel will deal with him when he gets back.

[The guards lead Spencer away. Greer watches them go. TJ sits on the bed with a heavy sigh.]

GREER
You said you found something.
TJ
To be honest, I don't know what I saw. I have to talk to Rush. You keep searching.
GREER
Nothing we find is going to add up to what's missing.
TJ
I know, but we have to know what we've got. No one's gone near the tank, and it keeps going down.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

[They are now at a frozen waterfall. Scott watches as Young breaks off an icicle and tests it.]

YOUNG
Come on, come on.

[He laughs at the results and nods to Scott, who smiles.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Destiny, this is Young. We've got pure ice.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

That's excellent news.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

YOUNG

(into radio)

It's a frozen waterfall. We should be able to break it up into manageable pieces and haul it back.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush checks the countdown on the clock.]

RUSH

(into radio)

We'll be ready for you.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Greer lifts the mattress on Chloe's bed as she looks on.]

GREER
Busy day on Destiny.
CHLOE
I haven't taken anything.
GREER

(smiling)

I don't think you have.

[Franklin appears at the open door.]

FRANKLIN

(scandalized)

What are you doing?
GREER
Checking for stolen rations.
CHLOE
It's okay, Dr. Franklin.
FRANKLIN

(sarcastic)

Confess, Miss Armstrong, you drank 40,000 liters of water.
CHLOE

(to Greer)

He's kidding.
GREER
I know.
FRANKLIN
I'm just saying we have rights.

[Greer keeps eye contact with Franklin while leaving.]

GREER
I'm done here, Miss Armstrong. I hope I haven't inconvenienced you.
CHLOE
I understand.

[Greer turns back and flashes Chloe a small smile.]

GREER

I knew that you would.
(unsmiling, to Franklin)

You. Next.

[Greer and Franklin head down the corridor, Franklin looking cowed.]

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

[Scott and Young get winded trying to haul small ice rocks onto the sled. They haven't chipped away much.]

YOUNG
This is never going to be enough. Stand back.

[He grabs the rifle.]

SCOTT
You've done this before too, have you?
YOUNG
At least five times.

[They both laugh.]

SCOTT
You mind if I give it a shot?

[Young studies Scott for a moment, then hands him the gun.]

YOUNG
Remember, all we have are the bullets we brought with us.

[Scott fires in short bursts at the waterfall, knocking chunks of ice free.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[TJ talks with Rush and Eli.]

ELI

(chuckling nervously)

So, are we talking about, like, one little cloud of bugs, or are they all over the ship?
TJ
I'm not even sure that "bugs" is the right word for them.
ELI
Huh, what about "cloud"?!
TJ
Except the cloud was alive. It was almost like thousands of tiny…alien creatures.

[She shrugs helplessly. Rush nods.]

ELI

(uncomfortable)

Yeah, I have a problem with everything you just said.
RUSH

(considering)

What you've just described is, uh, well, it's the same Lt. Scott claimed he saw on the desert planet.
TJ
That's what I was thinking, and maybe some of them followed him back here.
ELI
Wouldn't we have noticed them?
TJ
No, not if only a few came through the 'gate. They're like tiny grains of sand.
ELI
And then what? Started reproducing?
TJ
Well, if it's a living organism, then, yeah, they would.
ELI
Okay, so now, we've got aliens. What if they start bursting out of our stomachs?
TJ
I don't think they're dangerous. It almost felt like they were trying to communicate.
RUSH
Lt. Scott used the same word.
ELI
Yeah, at the time you said he was delirious.
RUSH

Well, I was wrong.
(To TJ)

What do you intend to do?
TJ
Well, I guess we should stop everyone from wandering around the ship.

[Rush moves aside to give TJ access to the communication console.]

RUSH
After you.
TJ
Um…here?
ELI
Yeah, yeah.

[Eli presses buttons to activate the ship intercom.]

TJ
This is Lt. Johansen. We have a situation. It's under control, but as a precaution, I ask everyone to return to their quarters and remain there until further notice. Thank you.

[She turns off the intercom.]

RUSH
You're, uh, you're not going to tell them?
ELI
That we've got aliens?!
TJ
No, we'll keep that on a need-to-know basis. What else?
RUSH
You're in charge.
TJ

(firmly)

And I'm asking your advice. What else?
RUSH
Always consider the greater good. That's it.

[TJ blinks and sighs.]

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DAY

[The sled is weighted down with chunks of ice, perhaps 200 lb. or so.]

YOUNG
That's enough ice for now. Let's get out of here.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Gorman heads down a corridor.]

GREER

(over radio)

Gorman, meet me in the gate room. We have ice on the way.
GORMAN
Copy.

[Gorman turns a corner to find the whirlwind in front of him. He stares at it in fear as it coalesces and approaches. He draws his side arm. As it approaches, he fires several rounds. The whirlwinds swarms and attacks him. He screams in pain, trying to brush them away. His skin is spattered with blood. He screams, chokes and gasps for breath, falling to the floor.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[The sled comes through the incoming wormhole. Greer and others are there to meet it, hauling it away from the gate and offloading the chunks of ice strapped aboard.]

ELI
They're on it.

[The Stargate shuts down.]

RUSH
Dial it back, please.

[The Stargate starts to dial as an assembly line of military personnel handle the ice.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Destiny, this is Young. How's it going up there?
RUSH

(into radio)

Offloading the sled, now.

[The conversation switches between the two locations.]

YOUNG
Well hurry it up. We want to do one more run.
RUSH
Just so you know, uh, another matter has come up. W—we have it under control.
ELI
We have aliens on the ship.
YOUNG
What?
ELI
They just shredded Gorman.
YOUNG
What the hell does that mean?
ELI
Millions of tiny flying razor blades floating around the ship like piranha.
RUSH
Corporal Gorman is alive. Uh, Lieutenant Johansen is tending to him now.
ELI
He's probably not going to make it.
RUSH

(scolding)

Eli!
YOUNG
That's it. We're coming back.
RUSH
No, no, no, that's not necessary, Colonel. Eli is overreacting. We believe the creatures are the same as those Lt. Scott encountered on the desert planet. They must have followed us back through the 'gate.
SCOTT
No, I doubt those things I saw were dangerous, sir. They—they helped me.
RUSH
Corporal Gorman may have provoked them. We'll know more once he comes to.
ELI
If he comes to.
RUSH

(angrily talking over Eli)

In the meantime, Lieutenant Johansen has ordered everyone to remain in their quarters. They're nothing more than a nuisance at this point, Colonel. But we desperately need more ice.
YOUNG
All right. We'll figure out what to do with them when we get back.

[Greer and the others have finished unloading the sled. Greer signals to Rush.]

RUSH
Okay, sending the sled back through now. Rush out.

[Greer and another send the sled back through, and the Stargate shuts down.]

RUSH

(to Eli)

You're going to have learn when to shut up.
ELI
You can't just…You can't just lie to the guy and expect me to…
RUSH
Once back into FTL, it can be days before we find another planet capable of replenishing our water supplies. This ice represents a fraction of what we need to stay alive. We need more!
ELI

(furious)

Yeah. I know! But that doesn't mean that you can just—
RUSH
Yes, it does.
ELI
You're making it sound like we're just—
RUSH
Just stop acting like a child! Please!

[Eli curls his lip in disdain. Rush turns away.]

RUSH

(more calmly)

We have to figure this out.

[Eli stays put.]

RUSH
I said "we".

[Eli turns and glares at Rush. Rush walks away. Eli reluctantly follows.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Greer holds up a makeshift welding torch/flame thrower. Rush and Eli are nearby, TJ pacing behind them.]

GREER
I say we torch 'em. You know, put some teams together, hunt them down.
ELI

(impressed)

Where'd you get that?
GREER
I can invent things, too.
ELI
Hey, we've really got to work together on this project…
TJ
You know, maybe the bugs were just responding out of self-defense.
GREER

(skeptical)

Self-defense? Did you see what they did to Gorman's face?
TJ
Yeah, I'm the one treating him, Sergeant. I saw exactly what they did to his face.
RUSH
Look, we don't know what it is we're dealing with. And "torching" them may only serve to antagonize them further.
GREER
We hit them with something else.
RUSH

(sarcastic)

Oh, revenge. That's great.
ELI
We—we've gotta do something. If we just sit around until they drink all of our water, then we're going to…

[Everyone stares at Eli.]

ELI
Alien bugs show up, and half our water disappears. Don't tell me I'm the only one who made this connection.
RUSH
Well, obviously not. The question is, what are we going to do about it?
TJ
Okay, Sergeant, you and your team go search for this alien…entity, cloud, bugs, whatever it is we're calling them and report back, okay?
GREER
Yes, ma'am.

[He heads out.]

TJ
And Sergeant? No torching.
GREER

(calling back loudly)

Yes. Ma'am.
ELI
Ooh. I have an idea!

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DUSK

[Scott is breaking apart an ice chunk with the torch while Young loads a different chunk onto the sled.]

YOUNG
It's going to be dark soon.

[Scott pauses to look around for only a moment before getting back to work.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer and his team slowly move down the corridor, Greer motioning for silence as they patrol.]

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli sits at the controls. Rush and TJ stand behind him. They're watching in a monitor as Riley stands outside the door where the water is stored.]

ELI
Okay. Stand back.
RILEY
Nothing's happening.

[Eli adjusts a control to show a different spectrum. Riley is surrounded by alien life forms that are invisible to the naked eye.]

ELI
Ew, yes there is.
RUSH
It's like vapor. We just can't see them.
TJ
That's what they did when I first saw them. It's like they just disappear.
RUSH
So they're growing in numbers exponentially and consuming our resources without us even knowing it. You have to get them off the ship.

[TJ sighs.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer's team has rounded a corner and encountered a swarm.]

TJ

(over radio)

Sergeant Greer, come in.
GREER

(low, into radio)

I'm a little busy right now.

[TJ and Eli are headed down a different corridor headed to the control room.]

TJ
The bugs are getting into the water tank every time we open the hatch. Once we locate the main swarm, we're gonna have to find—
GREER

(interrupting, into radio)

They're in front of me right now.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

Don't antagonize them.

INT—CORRIDOR

[The conversation switches between the two locations.]

GREER
I won't. Unless they antagonize me first.
TJ
Do they move when you do?

[Greer signals his team to hold position. He moves his flame thrower up and sets off a blast of fire. It frightens the swarm to move away from Greer, further down the corridor.]

GREER

(into radio)

They do now.
ELI
What we need is an airlock.
RUSH
Unfortunately, there are none in the habitable compartments of the ship.
TJ
I know what to do.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, DUSK

[Scott and Young finish strapping down the ice on the sled, preparing to depart.]

YOUNG
This isn't going to keep us going very long.
SCOTT
Maybe Destiny will figure out we're getting short on water and find us a planet with nice, fresh water right next to the Stargate. I mean, come on, we deserve a break.

[Scott falls through a break in the ice. He screams as he falls.]

YOUNG
Scott!

[Young leans near the edge of the hole where Scott's fallen through.]

YOUNG
Scott, can you hear me?

[Young tests the stability of the nearby ground.]

[Scott is wedged in a break in the crevasse several feet down, but the hole goes further.]

SCOTT
Yeah. Sorry, sir, the ice just gave way.
YOUNG
Are you hurt?
SCOTT
Negative. I'm okay, but…I'm wedged in pretty good. Good thing, too. Looks like a long way down.
YOUNG
All right, just hold on. I'm gonna…I'm going to throw a line down.

[Young unhooks a rope from the straps and starts feeding it into the hole.]

YOUNG
Here it comes. I need you to tell me when you got it.

[In the crevasse, Scott grabs the dangling rope when it comes close.]

SCOTT
Got it.
YOUNG
Now, if you can manage it, run it under both your arms and fasten it across your chest.
SCOTT
Done this before too, have you?
YOUNG

(with false levity)

Oh, yeah. At least a dozen times.

[Scott's strapped himself with the rope. Young's got a secure hold of the line, the far end attached to the sled.]

SCOTT
Okay.
YOUNG
Now, I want you to pull yourself up. I'm gonna pull from this end. Ready?
SCOTT
Uh, yeah.
YOUNG
Okay, one…two…three!
YOUNG

(with effort)

Pull! Pull Scott! Come on! Pull! Pull!

[Young groans with effort but is unable to budge the rope. He yells and collapses on the snow.]

YOUNG
How stuck are you?
SCOTT
Pretty dang stuck.
YOUNG
Is there any way you can dig yourself out?
SCOTT
I'm not sure.

[Another tremor passes, squeezing the wedge closer. Scott winces in pain. A second later, it's over.]

YOUNG
That's okay. That's passed. Scott?

[There are several seconds of silence before Scott answers.]

SCOTT
Still here, sir.
YOUNG

(relieved)
All right, let's just, uh…Let's think about this for a second.
(into radio)

Destiny, this is Young.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[TJ, Eli, and Rush are still monitoring the situation with the whirlwind.]

[The conversation switches between the two locations.]

TJ
Go ahead.
YOUNG
We've got a situation, here. There was a tremor, and Scott fell through the snow into a crevasse. He's fine, but he's just out of reach. I tried to pull him up, but that's not going to happen any time soon. How's that other space suit coming?

[Rush glances at TJ.]

TJ
W—we stopped work on that. I confined everyone to quarters.
YOUNG
All right, it was, uh…just a thought. We'll uh, we'll figure it out. How's your bug situation?

[TJ takes a deep breath. Eli looks down. She glances at Rush, who shakes his head furtively.]

TJ
Same as before, don't worry about it.

[Eli stares at TJ with an expression of betrayal.]

SCOTT

(with bravado)

Don't you worry either, TJ. I'll be out of here in no time.
TJ
Good luck. Johansen out.
ELI
Everyone is lying.

[TJ swallows but looks firm.]

RUSH
Yeah, grown-ups do that sometimes.

[Eli gives Rush an angry look.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer has herded the whirlwind into a tube with a ladder.]

[The conversation switches between his location and the control room.]

GREER
This is Greer. It's working. They're moving away from us as we move forward.
TJ
Good job. Keep it up.

[Greer nods to the others as they head up the ladder.]

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[Young has moved to the edge of the crevasse and shines a light down on Scott to see his condition.]

SCOTT
How about you lower the gun down, and I shoot myself free?
YOUNG

(sarcastic)

Yeah, that's good thinking. There's no way the bullets will ricochet into your ass.
SCOTT
Well, maybe I can cut my way out with the plasma cutter.
YOUNG
You get one hole in that suit, you're dead. Maybe there's a way for me to get down there.
SCOTT

(punchy)

No. That's just as stupid.
YOUNG
"That's just as stupid, sir."
SCOTT

(chuckling)

The last thing we need is for both of us to be stuck down here.

[There is another tremor.]

YOUNG

(gasping)

Okay. Oh god.

[The tremor passes as Scott winces.]

YOUNG
You okay?
SCOTT
Uh, closed in a little tighter, but I think…

[His voice trails off.]

YOUNG
What? What?

[Scott closes his eyes in resignation. There is a small hissing sound.]

SCOTT
I think I'm losing suit pressure.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe sits on her bed, listening to her I-pod. She feels a breeze and touch on her shoulder. She turns to find James there, looking at her with sympathy. She takes out her earpiece.]

CHLOE
I thought we were supposed to be confined to quarters.
JAMES
Yeah, well…I heard over the radio…There was a tremor. Lt. Scott fell into a crevasse.
CHLOE
Oh my God!
JAMES

(emotional)

He's okay. Just…stuck.
CHLOE
Do they have enough air?
JAMES
Col. Young says he's got it under control. I just, uh…thought you would want to know.
CHLOE
Thanks.
JAMES

(nodding)

Yeah.

[They exchange worried looks and James leaves.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Unnoticed, Chloe has joined the others in the control room in time to hear Young's latest radio call.]

[The conversation switches between the control room and ice planet.]

YOUNG
I think they ice tore a hole in his suit.
ELI
How big a tear is it?
SCOTT
I can't—I can't see it. But I can hear it. It's—it's hissing out pretty good.

[Chloe looks heartbroken.]

RUSH
An hour at most.
YOUNG

(reassuring)

Plenty of time to make it back.
SCOTT
Yeah, if I wasn't stuck!
RUSH
Colonel, you have to consider the amount of time you have left, now.
YOUNG
I'm aware of the damn time, Rush.
RUSH
All I'm saying is i—if you delay much longer—
YOUNG
Listen to me! I know exactly what you're saying, and I'm not going anywhere without Lt. Scott. And that's the way it's going to be!

[Eli nods in agreement.]

CHLOE
What is the matter with you?!

[They spin to see Chloe behind them.]

RUSH
Miss Armstrong. You should return to your quarters.
CHLOE

(furious)

No. You know where you can go?

[Eli comes over to comfort Chloe.]

RUSH

(into radio, clearing throat)

Look, Colonel, I understand your desire to rescue Lieutenant Scott, of—of course. And only you can decide how much time you have left. But Lieutenant, if Col. Young remains there trying to free you, to pull you up by himself, there's a chance he might not make it back.
SCOTT
He's right.
YOUNG
Just keep the 'gate active. We're going to make it back in time with your damn ice, which is all you really care about.
RUSH
Colonel…

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

YOUNG
Young out.

[Young breathes heavily at the edge of the crevasse.]

YOUNG
Damn, he's a lot of work.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer continues to stalk the whirlwind of aliens until he gets them all into a storage room. He quickly closes the door, sealing them in.]

GREER

(into radio)

This is Greer. I locked them up.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

RUSH
Closing off the ventilation in that room.

[Eli studies a display showing a red outline of the room.]

ELI
Okay, vents are closed. Should be airtight.
TJ
What are they doing now?

INT—OUTSIDE STORAGE ROOM

[Greer watches the whirlwind begin to swarm around the room.]

GREER
Looking for a way out.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

ELI
Let's hope they don't find one.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[Young grunts and groans, trying to pull Scott free to no avail.]

YOUNG

(in frustration)

Come on!

[He finally lies down on the ice, exhausted.]

SCOTT
Sir…Colonel?
YOUNG
I'm thinking.
SCOTT
Go. It's okay.
YOUNG
No, it's not.
SCOTT
Come on, sir. We both know you've done this before, too.
YOUNG
Done what?
SCOTT
Lost people.
YOUNG
Too many times. I'm not…I'm not doing it again.
SCOTT
I—I can't let you do it.
YOUNG
You don't have a choice.
SCOTT
Not that I'm counting, but this is the third time in almost as many weeks that you've been willing to kill yourself…and there's a pretty good chance at this point I won't be around to talk you out of it again.
YOUNG
You're a fine young officer. You've got a heart as big as a house. But I'm not here because I want to die. I'm here because I haven't given up on saving your ass. So just, shut up and think.

INT—OUTSIDE STORAGE ROOM

[The whirlwind is definitely more of a swarm and is more and more agitated.]

GREER
They're gettin' pissed off.

[The swarm moves towards the door. Greer backs away from the window.]

GREER
Really pissed off.

[He keeps backing away, then notices some coming through a crack in the door. He blasts them with his flame thrower.]

GREER
A few of them got out.

[The conversation switches with the control room.]

ELI
What?! How?!
GREER
We need a plan, Lieutenant!
TJ
I'm coming down there.

[She leaves the control room.]

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[Young lies back, staring up at the ringed "moon" and stars around the clouds. Snow is falling around him.]

YOUNG
This is beautiful out here. Scott. Lieutenant? Lieutenant? Scott…Scott! Scott!

[Scott is unconscious below. Young starts to turn away, thinking. While he's still looking between the sled and the crevasse, there is another tremor. The latest earthquake has loosened the wedge holding Scott in place. Scott starts to fall. Young grabs the rope just before it falls into the crevasse completely. Young straps the rope around his waist and pulls. The freed but unconscious Scott starts moving up.]

YOUNG
Scott! Wake up, Scott. Dammit! Wake up! Scott! I need you to wake up, Scott! Scott, come on! Wake up! Come on! Come on!

[Scott rouses and starts to try to pull himself up.]

YOUNG
Lieutenant?

[He sees Scott break the surface.]

YOUNG
Come on, I got you. That's it. Pull! Pull, Lieutenant! Come on, Lieutenant. Lieutenant!

[Young is able to grab Scott bodily and pull him away from the edge.]

YOUNG
Okay, that's it. That's it. I got you. I got you. Okay. Okay. Oh…All right?

[Young laughs victoriously.]

YOUNG
You're okay.

[Scott passes out.]

YOUNG
Hey, hey, Scott come on. Hang on, kid.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[TJ joins Greer, men dragging a container of water behind her.]

GREER
What's the plan?
TJ
We open the door. They go for the water. We close the lid.
GREER
All right, who's going to do that?
TJ
I am.
GREER
No, no, no, I will.
TJ
I'm not the one with the torch.
GREER

(protective)

Now, look, I'm not gonna let you do that…
TJ
I'm not the one who's killed any of them, Sergeant. You are.
GREER
I'll stand back. Torch 'em if they get out.
TJ
No, I want you out of sight.
GREER
What, you don't trust me?
TJ
No. I don't.

[Greer looks hurt at the admission, but acknowledges the order.]

GREER
All right.

[He signals the others to move back, and he does the same. TJ takes off her tac vest and looks into the room.]

TJ

(into radio)

Eli, I'm ready. Make us a clear path to the gate room. Seal off everything else.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli sets a section of green chambers, locking the other ones out.]

ELI

(into radio)

You're good.

INT—CORRIDOR

TJ

(into radio)

If this doesn't work, lock this compartment off from the rest of the ship.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[Young struggles with the sled as he pushes it the vast distance to the Stargate.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Destiny, this is Young. I'm on my way back with Scott. Come in.

[There is no response.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[TJ braces herself behind the barrel.]

TJ

(into radio)

Okay, let 'em out.

[TJ stands waiting with the lid to the barrel. The door is opened remotely from the control room. The whirlwind swarm escapes the hold and seems to study TJ for a moment before entering the barrel. TJ quickly closes the lid when the last one goes inside.]

TJ
Okay, I got 'em!

[Greer's team quickly grabs the barrel, and they start to move.]

TJ
All right, dial the 'gate. We're on our way.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[The Stargate activates with an incoming wormhole just as Young reaches the Stargate, pushing Scott on the sled.]

YOUNG

(breathless with exhaustion)

Destiny, I'm almost at the Stargate with Scott. Shut it down, so I can…dial in…

INT—GATE ROOM

[Rush is with Riley at the Gate Room controls.]

RUSH
Colonel, we're about to send these alien bugs through to the planet. We've no other choice.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

YOUNG
What?

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Greer and another man are hurrying in with the barrel.]

RUSH
We need you to step away from the 'gate, and remain as still as possible. They're coming through now.

EXT—BLIZZARD PLANET, NIGHT

[Young watches as the barrel falls through onto its side. The swarm punches the lid free and exits. They coalesce just as Scott regains consciousness, forming a human-like face and nodding at Scott before drifting away. The Stargate shuts down. Young starts to dial back.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Everyone waits while the Stargate dials. Young and Scott arrive.]

MEN
All right, here we go. Let's go.
YOUNG
Get his helmet off!

[They swarm around Scott, trying to get his suit off. Rush remains by the panel, looking at their arrival, with both men alive, and little additional ice on the sled. It was removed to make room for Scott.]

PEOPLE
Yeah, I got it. Give her a hand.
TJ

(checking him)

His pulse is thready, but he's breathing. Let's get him out of here.

[Chloe approaches and holds Scott's hand in the suit for a moment. Scott stares at her as the sled is moved out of the room. Riley gives Young water from a canteen. Young stares at Rush, who's still staring at the Stargate.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny leaps into faster than light travel.]

INT—BRIG

[Young and Greer open the door to the brig. Spencer stands up and adopts an at-ease posture.]

YOUNG
Sergeant Spencer. You step out of line again, and I will deal with you personally. Understand?
SPENCER
Yes, sir.

[Spencer glares at Greer as he walks past.]

GREER
I don't think he does.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young heads down a corridor. Franklin, Park, and Volker stand waiting to speak to him.]

FRANKLIN
Colonel, I need to talk to you about the behavior of one of your men.
PARK
No, that can wait. We need to go over the new rationing amounts before the…
VOLKER
Colonel, I was scheduled to use the communication stones this morning…
FRANKLIN
Colonel.
PARK
Colonel.
VOLKER
Colonel?

[The voices fade and blur together as Young ignores them all.]

INT—KINO ROOM

YOUNG

At approximately 0300 ship time, Corporal Gorman succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with an alien entity. Lieutenant Johansen did everything that she could. I intend to hold appropriate services tomorrow at 1600 hours.
(to someone behind him)

How do I turn it off?

[He clicks a button on the kino remote.]

FADE OUT
