Geopolitical and Structural History

P3Y-229 was a planet presumably destroyed when the Ori created their Supergate into the Milky Way Galaxy. The SGC could not dial into the planet's Stargate, and when ships arrived in that quadrant of space, all that could be found was a completed Supergate (9.20 "Camelot Part 2"). Presumably, the planet imploded into a singularity, like what happened to Kallana when the Ori attempted to create a Supergate there.

The SGC's two warships, an Asgard vessel, and Free Jaffa and Lucian Alliance vessels battled the four Ori warships who came through the Supergate, but were soundly defeated, and several vessels, including the Korolev were destroyed (9.20 "Camelot Part 2", 10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3"). The Supergate remains in that region of space.

The Ori did not leave the Supergate open after their first strike passed through the wormhole. Although the Asgard attempted to dial out from the Milky Way, they were unsuccessful. Instead, the SGC decided to try to dial into the Supergate from the Pegasus galaxy (10.03 "The Pegasus Project"). Not in possession of their own Supergate, they instead maneuvered two normal sized Stargates into position: one near a black hole in the Pegasus galaxy, the other near the Supergate by P3Y-229.

The Odyssey launched warhead explosions to cause the wormhole to jump to the nearest location, in this case the P3Y-229 Supergate. This quirk of wormhole technology had first been discovered by accident when SG-1 got separated escaping from P4A-771. It was later used to break Earth's connection to P3W-451 when the planet being sucked into a black hole. Although the warheads' explosive force was not enough to cause the jump, an exploding Wraith ship did. The resulting activation of the wormhole destroyed a passing Ori Warship. The Supergate at P3Y-229 was now connected to the Pegasus Galaxy via an incoming wormhole.

The Supergate was shut down on the Pegasus Galaxy side by Daedalus under orders by General O'Neill (10.14 "The Shroud"). After doing that, Daniel Jackson, using his temporary Prior powers and Merlin's consciousness, dialed the Supergate to the Ori galaxy and steered an Ori warship through. He and the rest of SG-1 were beamed away before it cleared the event horizon. The ship contained a primed weapon capable of destroying all the Ori. Soon afterwards, Ori followers took advantage of the usuable Stargate and sent six more Ori ships into the Milky Way. SG-1 and Gen O'Neill witnessed their arrival aboard the cloaked Odyssey.

Another time, SG-1 travelled to the region with the enhanced Odyssey, activated the Supergate, and flew into the Ori galaxy to find the "Ark of Truth" and/or stop the expected Ori fleet of reinforcements (Stargate: The Ark of Truth).
