Janet and Daniel tend to Wells on P3X-666

Summary

P3X-666 was the planet visited by SG-13 on a routine reconnaissance mission. There they found ruins of an Ancient city. Coincidentally, the Goa'uld sent a reconnaissance probe to the planet while they were there and a firefight ensued. SG-13 with SG-3 as backup remained on the planet to investigate ruins, but got ambushed by the Goa'uld. Sr. Airman Simon Wells was seriously wounded and required rescue. Three other SG-teams and a medical unit headed by CMO Doctor Janet Fraiser went to assist, encountering heavy enemy fire and suffering massive casualties. P3X-666 will always be known to the personnel of the SGC as the place where Janet Fraiser lost her life.

Geopolitical Structure and History

P3X-666 was the site of the Ancient civilization. Based on the size and scale of the ruins, the population was large and urban. In the thousands of years since the Ancients disappeared, the city fell to ruins.

SG-13 arrived on the planet for a routine reconnaissance mission (7.17 "Heroes Part 1"). They reached the ruins and Balinsky excitedly began to study them. Based on the writings discovered in the ruins, Dr. Balinsky was able to determine the civilization was the Ancients.

While still exploring the ruins, Balinsky came across a robotic device moving across the landscape. He ran back to his team, warning them to take cover. SG-13 exchanged fire with the shielded device before a well timed blast collapsed a wall of the ruin over it. SG-13 sent it back to the SGC for study, where it was determined to be a Goa'uld probe.

SG-13 remained on P3X-666, with SG-3 as backup, to study the ruins more. An UAV also conducted an aerial survey of the site. After Dr. Jackson and Mjr. Carter discovered the Goa'uld probe had sent out a signal before being destroyed, the teams were ordered to return to base. Before they could comply, Airman Wells was struck by a Jaffa staff weapon and couldn't be moved by his team. They remained and provided cover fire against approximately six Jaffa, sending Balinsky back to base to explain the situation to Gen. Hammond.

When SG-1, SG-5, SG-7, and a medical team led by Dr. Fraiser returned to the planet, a full blown battle ensued (7.18 "Heroes Part 2"). The Goa'uld were apparently monitoring the SGC radio communications and more Jaffa as well as gliders and al'kesh engaged the Tau'ri as soon as they announced their arrival to their comrades. There were several casualties on both sides of this battle, including Col. O'Neill, who was struck in the side by a staff blast. Luckily, a new design in the armor protection vests deflected the brunt of the blast, and he survived.

Unfortunately, Janet Fraiser was not so lucky. She and Dr. Jackson arrived at the injured Wells's side. Wells's teammate Bosworth went up to a neighboring ridge to protect the small group. Fraiser was able to stabilize Wells while Jackson kept him distracted by talking about his family. Wells, afraid his wounds were fatal, insisted Dr. Jackson help him give a message to his pregnant wife. To keep him from becoming more upset, Daniel and Janet agreed, and Dr. Jackson recorded a video message. Bosworth killed an enemy Jaffa approaching their position, but not before the Jaffa fired his staff weapon. Daniel Jackson's camcorder captured the image of the errant staff blast striking Janet Fraiser in the chest. She died instantly.

Severely outnumbered, the SG teams retreated back to the SGC via the Stargate, Major Carter informing Gen. Hammond that they were under enemy fire and coming in hot. The Goa'uld gained control of the planet, but it is unknown what information, if any, they were able to glean from the ruins.
