Monk from Kheb
Monk ascends

Summary

This monk was a caretaker of the temple on the planet Kheb, the sacred place established by the Ascended Being Oma Desala to instruct those who came on how to ascend to a higher plane of existence. (3.20 "Maternal Instinct")

Character Biography

The monk interviewed Daniel Jackson on Oma Desala's behalf in order to determine his true nature and whether or not he intended to do harm to the Harsesis child, later named Shifu, who had been brought there for safe keeping by Amaunet's closest aide (3.10 "Forever In A Day"). Apophis killed indiscriminately many Jaffa on Chulak in his search for the child and determined that he might be hidden away on Kheb.

Sha're asked Daniel to make sure the child was safe before she died. Piecing clues together from Earth and Jaffa myths and legends, SG-1 figured out the location of Kheb. It was a race to see who would find the child first. The monk patiently worked with Daniel while the rest prepared to defend the temple against Apophis' troops. When the troops arrived, the monk quietly asked them to leave, but they killed him with a staff weapon blast. His ascension to a higher plane of existence was the first witnessed by SG-1 and Bra'tac and they were in awe at the sight.

Oma Desala destroyed the attacking troops and took the child with her through the Stargate after Daniel decided that she could protect the baby better than he. The monk had been instrumental in helping Daniel realize this, but also in helping prepare Daniel for what eventually lay ahead as Daniel was faced with the decision to ascend two years later (5.21 "Meridian").
