Summary
Dr. MacLaren was a scientist who was creating an artificial super-heavy element called HG2340 which was to be placed on a rocket and launched from the planet K'Tau at their sun in order to return it to normal. It took MacLaren five years to produce the amount of HG2340 needed to render inert the plutonium introduced by accident to the sun, the Eye of Odin, when Maj. Carter overrode the failsafes on the dialing computer in order to get a lock on K'Tau's coordinates. Carter was grateful to obtain the element and named it "maclarium" after Dr. MacLaren. MacLaren was given clearance to see the Stargate and to hear of the planet which his work might be saving. He was introduced in the episode, 5.05 "Red Sky".
