Summary

Jean LaPierre is the French representative to the International Oversight Advisory. He first came to Stargate Command to meet with General Landry and discuss the Prior Plague that was infecting Earth (9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part 2). Later, LaPierre and other IOA members visited the Gamma Site on their first offworld tour (9.17 "The Scourge). LaPierre and his colleagues were present when the facility was overrun by alien insects designated as R75. R75 were later determined to be the latest weapon in the Priors' arsenal against the Milky Way. His group, along with their protection detail, SG-1, were the only survivors of the scourge.

Character Biography

Jean LaPierre was the French representative to the International Oversight Advisory. He first came to Stargate Command to meet with General Landry and discuss the Prior Plague that was infecting Earth (9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part 2). The visit had been organized by Hammond's office. While there, he became very accusatory towards Landry's decisions to have SG-5 go on the reconnaissance mission in the first place and in their unsuccessful attempts to contain the plague. He was interrupted by the Russian representative, Col. Chekov, who attempted to smooth over the situation.

Later, LaPierre, along with Shen Xiayo, Richard Woolsey, and Russel Chapman, were escorted by SG-1 to the Gamma Site (9.17 "The Scourge"). He was surprised at the size of the Stargate when he first saw it. At the Gamma Site, they received a tour by the base commander, Colonel Pearson. LaPierre became curious in entomologist Dr. Myers's insects (designated R75), and started tapping on the glass, much to Myers irritation. LaPierre and his colleagues later witnessed Dr. Myers collapse and were still present when the facility was overrun by R75.

LaPierre did not handle the crisis well. He was insistent that they should leave the base on schedule. Later, he and the rest of his group were escorted out of the base to the reseach facility, where it hoped they would be out of danger. Unfortuantely, the Prior influenced bugs were spreading throughout the area.

He panicked after they took shelter in a cave, loudly ranting at Lt. Col. Carter about their situation and his unwillingness to follow her orders until reminded that the insects detected prey by echo-location and LaPierre's loud voice could attract them. While en route to the research station, LaPierre became too exhausted to continue, demanding a chance to rest after the hours of walking. Col. Mitchell convinced him to continue through a ruse of giving LaPierre his sidearm and explaining that there were "tree ferrets" that could decapitate a man without warning. Although suspecting Mitchell of lying, LaPierre was convinced to continue.

They arrived at the research station with the R75 insects on their heels. While the rest of SG-1 held the bugs off, Carter tried to boost the communication signal so that the Odyssey could detect them from orbit and hopefully rescue them. LaPierre once again expressed his anxiety, haranguing Carter on whether or not she could do the job successfully. This time it was Woolsey himself who shut LaPierre down, to Carter's gratitude. The group were rescued in time and LaPierre returned to his duties at the IOA.
