Illac Renin, Jaffa who worshipped the Ori

Summary

The Illac Renin was an organization that worshipped the Ori as gods and was led by a Free Jaffa named Arkad. The organization resorted to terrorist attacks to eliminate their opposition, but at the same time claimed the right to worship as they pleased.

The Jaffa fought hard for their freedom, and when it finally came, it was greatly threatened when the Ori, ascended beings from another galaxy that promised the Path to Enlightenment, or ascension, started their crusade in the Milky Way to convert or destroy. There were many among the Free Jaffa Nation who believed in the Path to Enlightenment and so they sided with the Ori, believing in the Ori's promise to ascend their followers upon death as a reward for their devotion. After the Ori destroyed Dakara, the center of the Free Jaffa Nation's government, these Ori-worshipping groups gained more power, splintering from the main group of Free Jaffa and becoming the Illac Renin, which means "Kingdom of the Path" in Ancient, the language of the Ori. (9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part 2", 10.07 "Counterstrike", 10.17 "Talion")

The Illac Renin was led by a former first prime named Arkad. He had once been trained by Bra'tac, but Bra'tac did not think well of him. Teal'c and Arkad had met each other in battle, with Teal'c as the victor, and Arkad even admired Teal'c's strength even when he himself had been defeated. When Teal'c won the battle of Co'rak, Arkad's family was killed, and he sought revenge by ordering the death of Teal'c's mother. Teal'c killed the assassin, but always strongly suspected that Arkad had ordered the murder, an act of cowardice in Teal'c's eyes and not that of a true Jaffa warrior who would have personally sought to his own vengeance. (10.17 "Talion")

The group used terrorist attacks to eliminate their opposition, even among their own kind. At a summit held at Dar Eshkalon being attended by Bra'tac and Teal'c to reorganize against the Ori after the fall of Dakara, three bombs were detonated that killed thirty-two Jaffa, some of whom were innocent bystanders and children. Both Bra'tac and Teal'c survived, but they were gravely injured. (10.17 "Talion")

Teal'c knew that Arkad was the leader of the Illac Renin, and based on the cowardly attack on Dar Eshkalon, he concluded that Arkad was behind the massacre. After he recovered, he resigned from the SGC and pursued Arkad to avenge the slain. In the meantime, the SGC learned of a planned attack against Earth, and they also believed that Arkad was the one planning it. (10.17 "Talion")

While Teal'c was away, Arkad visited the SGC to offer his help in stopping the rumored attack on Earth. SG-1 and General Landry were not so easily convinced that Arkad had nothing to do with it when he claimed that the people who were planning it were a radical sect and not his own people. Arkad offered to use his position to stop this group and even gave the SGC the coordinates of his own organization's headquarters as an act of good faith. (10.17 "Talion")

As it turned out, just as they suspected, Arkad was indeed responsible for the planning of the attacks on Dar Eshkalon and on Earth. Arkad had persuaded the leaders of the Ori that he could gain more support and so he was mostly left to his own devices to make that happen. He began mining and stockpiling weapons grade naquadah so that he could launch an attack on Earth, the home of the Tau'ri who were one of the biggest threats to the Ori's crusade in the Milky Way. He ordered that several cargo ships be loaded with the naquadah and sent to Earth. But, Teal'c killed Arkad before it could be discovered where his stockpile was located and how many cargo ships were involved. (10.17 "Talion")

In a rather fortunate turn of luck, Vala Mal Doran's father Jacek had just learned of the location of the stockpile that was meant to be used to attack Earth, and he used this knowledge as a bargaining chip for a free pass to join Earth society as a way to run from his seedy past. Acting on his intel, the Odyssey was sent to the planet and found that he had indeed told the truth. They destroyed the cargo ships, causing a very large secondary explosion indicative of a substantial amount of weapons grade naquadah. The SGC honored their side of the bargain, giving Jacek his own appartment on Earth. Daniel and Vala followed him when he bypassed his tracking equipment and found him dealing with a Jaffa who was subsequently killed in a firefight with Daniel. Jacek claimed that the Jaffa wanted to get rid of the naquadah-laden cargo ship that had made it to Earth and would share in the profits from its sale that Jacek could arrange. The team managed to get Jacek to reveal where the cargo ship was located (it was cloaked), but Jacek decided that he had outstayed his welcome and left Vala and Earth behind. (10.18 "Family Ties")

Most likely, with Arkad's death and the subsequent loss of the naquadah stockpile, the Illac Renin lost its standing as a formidable threat.
