Clava Thessara Infinitas in Ancient text

Summary

According to legend, the Clava Thessara Infinitas (Key to Infinite Treasure) was a tablet that once decoded would lead to the entry to a vast storehouse of riches hidden away by the Ancients prior to their ascension. Although Daniel Jackson considered it a hoax at first, the acquisition of the Goa'uld Athena's research convinced him that there might be some merit to continue attempting to decipher the tablet. (10.08 "Memento Mori", 10.16 "Bad Guys")

Stargate References

The Clava Thessara Infinitis is a circular tablet with a square hole in its center. There are two concentric circles of eight Stargate glyphs each on its face. There are small inscriptions along the edges of the center square opening. (This description is based on images from false memories implanted into Vala, so it might not be entirely accurate.)

The Goa'ulds Athena and Qetesh developed an uneasy partnership in their search for the treasure. Believing that Qetesh had deciphered the code which unlocked the map to the treasure, Athena used her vast resources from within Earth's The Trust to kidnap Vala Mal Doran, the former host to Qetesh. The symbiote had been removed from Vala by the Tok'ra, and any of Qetesh's memories that Vala might have retained had been buried in her subconscious. Athena, hosted by a corporate executive named Charlotte Mayfield, used a memory recall device on Vala to gain access to Qetesh's memories. Vala escaped capture before revealing that Qetesh had lied to Athena about having the code. Daniel Jackson's research in the Ancient Merlin's volumes from his library on Camelot revealed some of the history of Clava Thessara Infinitas, but his research led him to the conclusion that it was nothing but an elaborate hoax. (10.08 "Memento Mori")

After the encounter with Athena, the SGC obtained her research notes concerning her pursuit of the treasure. After reviewing the notes, Daniel reconsidered his conclusion that it was a hoax. Using her research and the SGC's Stargate database, Daniel suggested the coordinates of a planet to visit where the cache of "Ancient wealth and weapons" could possibly be located, P4M-328. The initial MALP results confused Daniel because the hieroglyphics on the walls near the Stargate were jumbled. Even so, Landry gave SG-1 the "go" to visit the planet. The team ended up 'gating into a museum on a planet with similar development to that of Earth, but they were not aware of the Stargate's function or of alien life. Unfortunately, their first contact with the officials ended badly and once the team was permitted to return home, the people buried their Stargate. Mitchell did have a chance to ask one of the museum curators if a stash of weapons was found near the Stargate dig, but the curator said that no such thing was uncovered. (10.16 "Bad Guys")

The next time that the Clava Thessara Infinitas was mentioned was in conjuction with false memories Vala had implanted in herself so that she could deceive Adria in order to lead her into a trap. These memories centered around Vala's insistence that she had a vision in a dream that told her how to solve the riddle, assuming that a buried memory from Qetesh was the source of the inspiration. She proposed that the infinity symbol (∞) could be overlaid on the tablet and reveal a Stargate address. As part of the false memories, the missions to the first planet Vala suggested resulted in an Ori ambush. At that point, the team started to believe that perhaps Adria was feeding Vala false information in order to lead them into a trap. Adria had inspired Vala's dream to get them to Moran Le Fay's planet in the search for the Sangreal (10.10 "The Quest Part 1"), so their suspicions were valid. Again in the false memories, Vala told the team about another dream she had in which the infinity symbol was placed vertically over the tablet to yield yet another unique Stargate address. In these false memories, Vala was relieved of her position on the team because the IOA believed her to be compromised. Rather than go to Area 51 as a prisoner, Vala escaped (the team actually placed her on the planet while she was unconscious). She was met by Adria who wanted to help her mother find the treasure. She and Vala went to this second planet and it was on this planet that the team had their trap for Adria. Unforuntately, Ba'al's connections within The Trust tipped him off to SG-1's mission, and Ba'al captured Adria instead. (10.19 "Dominion")

Whether or not the appearance of the Clava Thessara Infinitas in Vala's false memories was true to its actual appearance remains to be seen. It is possible that Daniel is continuing his research to determine how to decipher the tablet, since he appears to believe that the hidden treasure and the Key to finding it are no longer part of "an elaborate hoax."

These are the two Stargate addresses in Vala's false memories (10.19 "Dominion").

This first address is the result of placing the infinity symbol horizontally over the tablet:
