Geopolitical Structure and History

A secret Asgard genetics/cloning facility was hidden beneath the dense atmosphere of a planet in the Adara System. The atmosphere of the planet was 80% carbon dioxide and the surface temperature was over 420 degrees fahrenheit. The Asgard scientist Heimdall ran the laboratory, which was located several hundred meters below the surface of the planet. Adara is a double star in the constellation of Canus Major.

About 30,000 years ago, the Asgard had sent out an exploration ship with its passengers in stasis. Only about six months prior to SG-1's meeting Heimdall, they had discovered this ship near the Adara System, floating aimlessly off course. Only one of the Asgard held in stasis remained perfectly preserved and his body was extremely valuable to the Heimdall, who hoped that by studying this Asgard ancestor, he might be able to find a solution to the Asgard's genetic degradation caused by thousands of years of cloning. This ancestor was of the time before their cloning technology had become irreversible.

SG-1 was called in by Freyr of the Asgard to extract Heimdall and his research before they were taken by the Goa'uld Osiris. Freyr believed that Thor was dead because his ship was destroyed in an encounter with Osiris over this planet which Thor was attempting to protect. Osiris captured Thor and called in the Goa'uld Anubis for whom he worked and Anubis probed Thor's mind for all the information he possessed concerning Asgard technology. SG-1 was successful in extracting Thor from Anubis' ship and Heimdall from the facility, along with his research, and were joined by additional Asgard ships which succeeded in preventing a battle. Osiris and Anubis left the Adara System once they realized that the Asgard ships had superior weaponry.
