HIGHLIGHTS OF I-CON Q&A WITH DON S. DAVIS

Davis got into the business, why Hammond was so mad at Jack in Children Of The Gods, rough and tumble, Chris Judge's flatulence, forming a movie production company with Michael Shanks, Michael's departure and return, the reasons why Jonas didn't work as a character and much, much more.  Much!  Thanks to Sharyn for a wonderful transcript :))

CHAPTER THREE OF JOSEPH MALLOZZI'S PRODUCTION DIARY

Chapter Three: The Outline.  Joseph Mallozzi muses on such diverse topics as tending the liquorless bar, Hannibal's map of the Alps and the really hard part of writing, which is apparently coming up with the title, even after double-dessert.  Scraping the bottom of the title barrel bring us: "Stuff Happens!"  At which point the wise writer recognises that it may be easier to actually write the episode.  A spoiler-free version is available so the spoilerphobes (you guys know who you are!) can still enjoy the diary.

NEW MGM SCIFI NEWSLETTER INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL SHANKS
ACTOR HYPHENATE BY BEN STRAIT

Ben Strait asks Michael Shanks about future developments for his character Daniel Jackson.  There are difficulties in balancing Daniel's recall of his experiences as an ascended being and the consequences of that with not having in place a 'super-character' who can answer any question or deal with any situation.  Michael Shanks once again reiterates his desire and that of the writers to have Daniel be a more active and forward-moving individual.  We also learn more about Michael's experiences of the writing process.

JOSEPH MALLOZZI'S PRODUCTION DIARY

Solutions is thrilled to share with you the Production Diary of Stargate SG-1 writer and Co-Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi.  Over the coming weeks, he'll be taking us behind the scenes at Bridge Studios to explore how an episode of the show is made and bring us all a little closer to the production of this series we love and admire.  We'd like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Joseph Mallozzi for willingly giving fans so much of his personal time over the coming weeks.

"This, dear readers/fervent fans/casual observers, is our starting off point to the wonderful world of television production: the writing team.  Granted, there are occasions when outsiders will enter our hallowed realm to take up the mantel.  Names like Wright, Judge, and Shanks have and/or will continue to adorn the celebrated Written By credits.  But, for the purposes of this diary, let’s stick to the standing regulars: Rob, Paul, Peter, and myself (let’s call me Montague) as I deliver you a blow by blow breakdown of the production process, from concept to finished episode."  -- Joseph Mallozzi, 06 Mar 2003.

SPOILERZONE: NEW SPOILERS FOR FALLEN, HOMECOMING AND FRAGILE BALANCE

11 FEB 03
From SG-1_spoilme we have story outlines for the two-part premiere of Season Seven: Fallen is part one, written by Robert C. Cooper, and Homecoming, part two, written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.  The two-parter will see Daniel Jackson descended and reunited with his family of SG-1 while also concluding the Season Six story arc which saw the Kelownan Jonas Quinn assume Daniel's place on the team.

12 FEB 03
From SG-1_spoilme we have an update to Daniel's descent in Fallen plus a story outline for Fragile Balance, the much delayed Asgard mythology-cloning story which has been repeatedly bumped from the lineup since Season Four.

Digger 1 steps in with an update on Season Seven premiere Fallen.  Plus we have character updates for Daniel Jackson and Teal'c, and some Solutions speculation on the identity of the Asgard villain hinted at in Fragile Balance.  The episode was written by Damian Kindler and is to be directed by Peter DeLuise.

CHRIS JUDGE ON TEAL'C AND CHANGELING

"I wasn't surprised that Rick signed on," Judge remarks. "He's the toughest old man that I know. He has more energy than anybody I know.  Actually, I was surprised that he agreed to do another year. I'm overjoyed that he said yes. No one else could play O'Neill except Rick. He just has that guy's humor down perfectly. The show wouldn't be the same without Rick. My concern was that if Rick decided not to do it, would they try to replace him with someone else? Would the network want to do the show if he didn't agree to come back? But the best-case scenario happened: he signed on for another year."

"I'm also thrilled that Michael will be back. Believe me, no one is happier about Michael coming back than I am. That's for sure. In December, we did an episode of Andromeda together, in which we sort of reprised the roles we played before.  We love working together.  We're like a big family.  Someone wanted to pay us to hang out, so we were like, 'OK!' I'm thrilled that he'll be returning to Stargate. I've got my partner in crime back on the show."

EPISODE SYNOPSES, RESOURCES, TRANSCRIPTS AND REVIEWS PLUS TV LISTINGS UPDATE

We've launched into our project to bring to you the very best episode resources in fandom.  There are so many talented Daniel and Team fans out there doing amazing work on the whole universe of Stargate SG-1, we're thrilled to act as a hub which gives you quick and easy access to their websites.  We're starting off with Seasons Two and Three and have tried to cover the following bases for every episode:
      • Writer and director
      • Guest stars and characters
      • Official and fan synopses
      • Reviews from ANY fan, not a favoured, biased clique as you see at some other sites
      • Transcript (we and sister Stargatefan are adding to these all the time)
      • Quotes, SG-1-isms, planets visited, SG9-11 (emergency) events (usually Daniel), Meli's nitpicks
      • Screencaptures, sound files and video clips from Stargatefan
      • Missing scene fanfiction from Stargatefan, THE Stargate genfic archive
This is a massive undertaking for all the sister sites and the fans so generously giving their time and energy to help create the ultimate resource guide for fans of all the team, all the time.  You're welcome to add a synopsis or review of any episode, to offer us a link to the resources on your own website.  We'll be happy to hear from you!  Solutions, Stargatefan and Our Stargate forum are about quality, not quantity.  We want to give of our best.

Grateful thanks to Helen and to Marcia for their help in compiling the information and links for each episode of Seasons Two and Three :))

"THROUGH THE GATE AND BACK AGAIN": MICHAEL SHANKS INTERVIEWED BY MIWA HIRAI FOR CYBEREX

"I'm very aware of the strong reaction to Daniel's departure since the end of Season 5. It's been very surprising for me and, I think, for the people who run the show as well. I knew that there would some sort of reaction, but I didn't realize how passionate it would be. The character was very passionate, so maybe he would attract people who share that trait. It's just been very lovely, but at the same time it's been difficult. It was sad for me (to leave), too."

"Whether or not the character comes back to the show is not my decision to make," says Shanks pensively. "It's wonderful that the fans still care. I can't say how much I appreciate their support. Sometimes it may be a little bit misguided, but other times they're dead on the money. To have fans out there carry your memory and want to see your character back is, well, I can't say enough about that." He grins. "They're wonderful. It's a very flattering thing that they're still talking about him (Daniel). In terms of whether or not to blame Michael Shanks for leaving the show, possibly. But don't blame him if he doesn't return, I have absolutely no control of it at this point."

SCIFI and MGM apparently listened to the voices of unwavering support for the character of Daniel Jackson. SCIFI has officially confirmed that Shanks will return as a regular cast member in the full 22 episodes of Season 7.

SUMURU "ALL SPACED OUT" ARTICLE COMPLIMENTS OF SCREEN AFRICA

We're delighted to announce that the industry magazine "Screen Africa" has allowed us to reprint their article on Sumuru by Joanna Sterkowicz, featuring Michael Shanks' first comments on his experiences making the movie.

As per the Sumuru co-production/funding deal, Canadian and German leads were mandatory. Says {Darrell] Roodt [Director]: "I didn't have any say in casting the three leads but I was very pleased to get Canadian Michael Shanks as I knew his work on Stargate. German actress Alexandra Kamp and Simona Levin from Denmark were unknown to me, but I'm delighted with how they have worked out."

I ask lead actor Michael Shanks, the handsome Canadian star of the cult television series, Stargate SG-1, whether there is much room in the script for characterisation.

"My character, Adam Wade, one of the two astronauts from Earth, is the voice of the audience. People watching the film should realise that the film is not serious. They must appreciate that the world the astronauts land up in is topsy-turvy.
